Hi Hab.....hope all is good over your way. Warmest day of the year here today, 66 deg. It was nice to putter in the yard with the loppers pruning a couple of trees a bit.

Hi Rw. Today's going to be pretty good and tomorrow better. Glad to hear you had a good day lopping the trees. Hope you were laughing maniacally as you did it, to keep the neighbors entertained.
Meeting Hrt4me today to exchange some rack parts and that's about all I've got going on. It's too wet to deal with the garden, maybe next week I can get some manure tilled in. Waiting for the peppers to sprout downstairs, the broccoli and tomatoes have come up and are growing. All I've done to the truck lately is wax it and drive it.
Spring break starts tomorrow so YAY me!

Howdy TTE, glad to see you're as excited by your 96 as I am by mine. I know sometimes it's hard not to blah blah blah about the truck and you're doing a fine job of it. I love the way my friends' eyes roll back in their head when I start a sentence with 'My 4Runner...'.
SPRING BREAK! It'll be dry enough even if it isn't because it's SPRING BREAK!
Met up with hrt4me and his wife. And his dad. And his mom. I think I asked something about if his VeeWee was really a clown car and just how many more people could I expect to come out of there? Delightful people, a good short visit and parts exchanged. I headed towards their home on the way to a hiking trail (pretty day and all) and they headed towards mine to take the back way home.
Hrt4me, it was really nice meeting you and yours. Thanks for the parts and next time, DRIVE YOUR TRUCK! Ok, one tank of gas with the VW from point A to B? I guess I can almost understand. Barely!

Thanks, Habanero!
I appreciate the warm reception
but apparently it was not an appropriate place to begin my YotaTech experience. When people ask me "How do you like your 4Runner?" my reply is either "Rubber side down" or "Are you kiddin' me?! If it was a man I'd marry it!".
Thank you again and btw, your 4Runner is AWESOME! One question (and I apologize for my ignorance here) why Tundra brakes? The rear brakes on Thomas are squeaking when I apply them, and of course every time I take it to my tech they work just fine - no squeaking! WTH???

I didn't mean to chase TTE off..........oops. Sent a PM to TTE mentioning a couple of forums/threads that may work for the post that was here.

RW- TTE Seems to still be here so all must be good. You're a very well meaning guy, no one can fault that or deny it.
TTE- The front rotors on many 3rd gen 4Runners have a nasty habit of warping. My rotors were warped when I bought the truck so I put Brembo blanks on because they were supposedly less warpable. Did them in too so my next step was Tundra brakes. They've been on for almost 40,000 miles now and have not warped (pulsing pedal when braking is a clue).
Are you sure it's the rear and not the front that's squeaking? Have you driven with the mechanic to apply them yourself? He might not brake with the same finesse that you do. Just a thought. I guess you don't have a slight axle seal leak because the mechanic would likely catch that. Another common 3rd gen thing.
Ask me any question you feel like. I'll help if I can but I don't know much. That search button is a big help too though sometimes Yotatech search can be frustrating. I like to think of this as a learning thread, even if it's me doing most of the learning.

thanks for swapping parts and letting us ogle your blue 4Runner and its moo box, among other mods; the only weird happenings today were snow in the morning and then 71°F by the time we got back home, and having that bizarro Andrew Zimmern sit at the table behind us and start filming during our late lunch at Mai Lee in Brentwood...

BACKPACKING! RAIN! Cats! Dogs! Sheep! Pigs! Horses and Cows! Friday was perfect, Saturday was great until the late evening, Sunday was wet wet wet wet wet with just enough almost dry time to do a 7 mile out and back from the tent. A plastic painter tarp made a great lean-to that kept us dry while we ate and watched the rain. LOTS of thunder and lightning Sunday evening/early Monday. Creeks were high but not impassable Monday and 28 frost-laden degrees this morning. Today's hike back to the truck revealed that some of the lakeside part of our trail became actual lake! Turns out it was almost 4" of rain from Saturday eve to Monday early morning.
Life. It is good.

^^ Sounds like lots of fun, even with the rain.
The aquifers love all that water for sure. 4" of rain is 33% of my areas annual precip via rain and snow.

Turned out to be one of the best ideas ever, that tarp. We really needed the rain and are finally (currently) off the drought map. I am as and possibly more scared of lightning (and balloons) than of cut-offs, definitely glad when the constant train of t-storms stopped. Still, I figure any camping day that doesn't require a trip to the hospital is a good camping day.
Some of the heaviest rain storms I have ever been in have been in the Utah desert, especially that of the infamous 'Husbandio Ate The Bryce Canyon Meat Burrito And We Can't Roll Down The Windows' rain. The wind was lifting the wipers off the windshield and it was raining whales. I couldn't see to the end of my hood and was forced to pull off hwy 70 and wait it out. Worst smell in the history of worst smells ever to be created within the confines of a human body.
Thursday the same area's likely to be hit with several inches of snow. Good ol' Misery. If you don't like the weather now, wait a minute.
Great build thread, isn't it?
