Hey hab greta job on the corners... may look at upgrading to 921 myself....

as for dishwashers go Bosch or Meille super quiet and energy efficient and good german reliability...

note I'd have suggested the "stoker" brand but I think the larger items and sharps are still a bit beyond his abilities... there is also the Hubby brand but I hear from my friends they can be a little unreliable and the quality of clean is not always all it could be...

If you aren't gonna look tough at least look scary.

Thanks for the tip! The Hubby does the dishes, thus the new dishwasher! Apparently a falling apart 15 year old lower end Fridgidaire that came with the house won't cut it? All I know is I want something that you don't have to wash the dishes (rinse) to wash the dishes! I've been going in circles trying to figure out which to get. Meille is out of my price range but some of the Bosch aren't. The big things are ability to clean, energy star and reliability. I'm getting really tired of reviews of all the brands that have a 3 year and less life! With a dishwasher as old as mine anything's gonna be quieter so noise isn't so much a factor. I'll check more into those Bosch, just having trouble getting their auto parts quality out of my head. Never really been impressed with it.

96 4Runner, 234,284 miles

Oil change is much easier with the skid off.

Hello Habanero..I posted with you on other threads before. Jason was out at my house last week and said you had been very helpful to him. I spent last nite going thru your thread. You are AWESOME!! Been trying to get my wife to go thru your thread and see what she could do. I really like seeing you and Molly working on your own trucks. That is great.

You have some great scenic sites on your thread. I have a 3rd Gen myself and dont have much info to help out on the 95.5 and up. But if I ever do I will be refering to yours and Jasons for info. You have some great write ups.

You have two 3rd gens with 5 speeds. I could not find one for the life of me when I bought mine. Great builds on you and hubbys trucks. Keep up the great work. I lived in St Charles for awhile. Is that area still the road construction capitol of America? Havent been that way in 5 or 6 years. Enjoyed it up there.

We sort of stumbled onto hers, drove by it sitting at the Toyota dealership lot, and the blue caught my eye. Just pure luck it was a 5 spd or it would have gotten a big 'meh' on closer inspection.

Then for my '99, yes, it is hard finding a manual. Took a good 3 or 4 months of scouring cars for sale over a large area before we found it. And even then it was a long drive (6+ hours) away in Madison WI.

Bosch appliances are used all over Europe, they also have the nice stainless steel body which is much better than the plastic ones most NA makers seem to have these days imo... have you looked at IKEA appliances? not sure who is making their stuff for them but here's a linky
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/ca...kitchen/20825/

Bosch stuff 15% off at Lowes http://www.lowes.com/cd_bosch_884714589_

just took a look at the Meile stuff... wow! pricey...

biggest thing I find with dishwashers/pre-rinse is some things that like to stick hard when dry like egg yolk and some tomato sauce type things or stuff that got baked on... having a dog helps with this usually after she's had a go at the plates they are clean enough to use again but you wash anyway lol... when she's not around or someone did'nt let her have the plate before the food dried out then you have to pre rinse... I don't think any machine will help you when this happens though some are better than others...
biggest thing to long machine life is making sure you scrape the plates off into the compost bucket before they go in the machine... the small food bits plug the drain/jam up impellers and so on and lead to failure... our machine is 22yrs old... had a tech in to replace the element when it was about 18 and he was amazed said it still looked almost brand new...

dogs make great pre-rinsers...

Are we talking dishwashers? Right now is probably a good time to get one if they're still offering President's Day deals. If the sales are over, wait for the next three day weekend. It's always $100 off. I just gotta pipe in and say how much I HATE my Bosch dishwasher!!! It looks great and the controls are inside and it looks all sleek but it does a terrible job. I have to rewash loads at least twice a week. I "researched" it online before I bought it and everyone liked them. I replaced a Whirlpool builder grade with it and honestly the Whirlpool did a much better job. The Bosch is very quiet, though, but you can get the same effect by putting insulation behind any dishwasher. Sorry for the rant. BTW it has a screen in the drain that needs to be cleaned out frequently, yuk. No other dishwasher I have ever lived with has had this problem. Oh, and "hi." I enjoy your thread, I just don't have much Gen 3 knowledge.

Thanks for all the head swelling and good to see you here! I hope what-all I throw on here helps others, that would make me happy. I've decided if I'm going to muddle through things I'll at least stick 'em up here for others to hopefully find useful. At least give people something to chuckle at. Means a lot to me to be talked kindly about.

Molly looks better wrenchin' in those dresses of hers.

St. Charles has changed a lot over time. It's getting filled up with subdivisions and stores and what-not. They've gotten a lot of 94/Page extension done but yeah to the road construction. Their parks department has been quite progressive. Lots of new parks and trails, we do a fair amount of trail building out there for mountain biking and hiking. The head of that department is an old wheeler (Jeep). We get to talking now and then about how cool it would be to have off road trails and dispersed camping in the county. Don't see it happening though, with so many people moving out that way. Bummer about that. Still can dream though.

aviator, Nervo19- still making myself crazy over dishwashers. A hundred people like this, another hundred don't. Now I'm leery of anything Whirlpool/ Kitchenaide/ Maytag/ some Kenmore because of all the control panel fires. All I want is a simple mechanical control dishwasher, no bells or whistles, that CLEANS, uses a lesser amount of energy and water and that LASTS.
Why is that so hard to find?

Hopefully this weekend cause the sales and cause the Hubby. 'Specially 'cause the Hubby.

Well hab I got to say I think a mech. control dishwasher is going to be impossible to find new anymore... I just don't think they are even made these days...

nervo sorry to hear you are having problems... are you making sure your plates are scraped clean of food/stuff that sticks hard as I posted previously? no machine will get off caked/baked on crud well 100% of the time and the bosch does'nt have the disposal grinder some mech. have so the filter might clogged if you did'nt scrape [or dog lick] your dishes...

Dogs are the best food scrapers ever....

Ended up getting a Maytag MDB7749. That's what happens when you take the dishwasher out shopping for a dishwasher. The price was ok and the reviews good so hopefully it'll do alright and it won't become the cv boots of the kitchen.

Speaking of CV boots, those stretched things are holding up fine. When I get a chance I'll put the skinnier Land Rover hose clamps from my junkyard date on them for better fit.

Also gotta find a good cutting wheel *shudder at thought of sparks* for my old Dremel. Gotta put a hole in a couple o' fenders pretty soon.

And last, my rear cargo light is still working fine and dandy. Of course.

Have a good night, y'all.

Sounds good hab... just read a few reviews on the mach. one said there was an issue with the door seal around the latch 2mos in... leaked and was always hard to latch... check yours carefully when it arrives...

worse comes to worse you can always get one of those cute lonely Maytag repairmen to visit...

Yikes....I think I'll steer clear of commenting on the above, except to say that Hab would probably be her own repair person if the silly thing decides to break anytime soon.

Nothing to do with trucks.
Sweated in a new shut-off to replace a corroded valve and added hot and cold valves where I had to do some pipe reconfiguring for another project. Midway through my part of the deal the power went out. Colman rechargeable lantern to the rescue. Hubby did the actual dishwasher install. I did one from scratch some years back and didn't remember it as being fun so I 'let' him experience it for himself.

We put some dishes in and it worked! Actual clean dishes!

Now I can focus on my 96 again.
