There are 7 screws to take the cover off. 1 in the middle, 1 at the top ground, 4 on the peripheral, 1 at the top opposite the ground..

The screw in the middle has a nut on it, down in the hole in the back. Don’t lose it.

here’s the back...the nut will likely fall out and need to be put back in when it’s time to put the motor back together

There is also a nut on the screw at the top opposite the ground. It can also fall out.

I used a screwdriver to carefully pry the thing apart, they use an ooey gooey gasket to seal it. Try not to get that seal stuff on everything, it'll be handy when it's time to close back up.

If there are broken antenna bits you should be able to remove the ring sitting on top of the gears and find them.

In these pics I’ve cleaned off the grease in there so you can see what’s going on when I do the anatomy part. You should see a lot of whitish grease.

Clean out the broken bits and stick it all back together. Bolt the antenna back into the truck, plug the connector back together. The mast should be at the hole in the fender. Stick your antenna mast track with the teeth facing towards the front of the truck down into the antenna shaft. Have someone turn the radio off and if you got it in there right the antenna will suck down in and you can guide it to the proper spot. Cool.

Put on the antenna bezel, then screw the antenna bezel nut onto the antenna shaft threads. Make sure you catch the threads and get the nut screwed onto the shaft. That’s the only thing holding your antenna mast in.

Tada!
(your antenna motor will have the actual motor still attached...I was taking pics in anticipation of the anatomy of an antenna posts coming up)

And let's dig deeper. This is not a part of the antenna mast replace! More a pictorial on what-all's in there. The largest diameter gear in my antenna motor has some wear. It's not bad, but my hubby found me a busted up motor out of an '02 so I'm gonna do some redecorating. Why not?

Little white plastic bit

goes here where the bottom of the auger screw is

Like so with the motor installed

There are 2 nuts that fit down in place holding the motor cover on.

They'll run off if you don't keep an eye on them

install the motor cover with the words on front. Put it on backwards and your antenna will do opposite what it's supposed to.

The plastic sleeve is what the antenna mast shaft fits into. It only goes on one way, obvious because of the screw hole vs the screw hole in the case

and the ground

Once motor is installed (not in this pic, but you should be able to see the auger), add the first gear.

The next gears are part of an assembly that fits over the first one

You may have to turn the first gear a little til the teeth mesh and the assembly drops in place

Again, the auger screw should be in place before this happens.

This is the larger gear assembly

If the c-shaped part of the gear on your left is broken the antenna motor could run longer than it's supposed to. More often than not it's because of an aftermarket mast track that is too small in diameter, but if it's not that then look here.

They fit together a certain way

like so

There are 4 nuts, 2 on the motor cover, one in the center at the back and one at the top right. They are all on a mission to disappear.

and here is where the ground wire goes

I took my pics after cleaning off the grease for better clarity, then replaced the hardened white grease from toyota with plastic safe white lithium grease. Fairly generous amount of it, but not stuffed to the gills.

And there you go. A whole lot of pics for the heck of it.

Great wright up on the antenna as well, you have a knack for really being able to explain things.

Oh, sorry to hear, Jason! Hopefully getting back on the road won't be/ wasn't too much trouble.

Thanks! If the how-tos help someone then it's worth the hassle of trying to get it all pictured and written down with some semblance to making sense.

G' morning Hab! I don't have the power antenna, but if I did it would all be very easy to do with what you show and explain. Well done!

Ski day Friday and tomorrow. Whoohoo!

'Twas excellent. Chose to ride in Columbia, IL. Flat 30 mile ride for the 2nd tandem ride of the year. I'm in shape, sorta potato shaped. 18mph winds all the way out turned into a helpful push all the way back to the truck.

Ah, I was thinking it was lack of snow keeping you off the mountain. I'm guessing you are feeling better with two slidey days in a weekend.
