Wheel Opinions??Please

Hey guys I got a question for ya. What a some really good, backspaced aftermarket wheels? I have been looking at American Racing wheels, the Baja ones and the all black ones as well. But I'm still in a delima. I just wanted to know if there were some other brands of wheels that you guys might run on your rigs that you like alot. ANY sugestions, I would really like to consier as much as I can before making a choice. I need backspacing so I can stop rubbing on my control arms w/ these 32s.

All aftermarket wheels have backspacing!

The AR Outlaw II's would be a good choice. The Bajas are polished, not clear coated which the Outlaws are.

The other wheels I'm seriously considering are the Mickey Thompson Classic II's. Again, these are polished only though.

I'm planning on getting the Mickey Thompson Classic II. Same ones as Darren. Sweet looking rims.

Well, have fun.

Okay so it seems as though that o on is for the black AR's is that what I'm gettting here, I'm a black Runner and just thought that it might look cool going all black. I have a friend with a black 96 Grand Cherokee(lifted 5" on 32s) and he has black ARs that is where I got the all black idea. Ireally like the MTs are they hard to keep clean being that they are polished and chrome?

Also where is a good place to shop for weels, I use summitracing.com right now but they don't have a really big selection. Thanks again guys.

Take a look at hawkdog's Runner to give you a better idea of how a 4Runner looks. With yours being black, they may look pretty good.

Personally, I think they give kind of an unfinished look. Kind of hard to explain.

Obviously, it's what you think will look best.

That green one is VaBeach99Jade (Josh) from 4x4 Wire. I think he has 2.5" suspension and 3" body lift. It is one of the sweetest looking ones around.

Here's what Cebby said on a recent post:

"A word of caution on clear coating. I've had a number of custom wheels over the years, some with clear coat and some without. What happens over time with uncoated wheels is they get dull. Break out the Mothers polish and bring some elbow grease. Then they look like new again. With clear coated wheels, the coating will eventually get nicked and scratched. With time, these scratches make the wheels appear to have a haze. You can wax them to slow down the process, but eventually they will look beat. I've stripped clearcoat off of more than one set of wheels to give them a good polishing. Major PITA. The more intricate the wheel, the worse it is. I'm in the snow/salt/rust belt though, so this is probably worse case."

Wyatt, from the other link I posted, said he put some Armor All stuff on his and they began streaking (and maybe corroding, I can't remember) and that they don't look as good anymore.

I would clear coat mine if I ended up going this route. I have zero experience with aftermarket wheels so I can't add anything to this topic.

As to where to buy, it sounds like you can do about just as good locally from a Discount or Big O or something. I haven't researched in full yet as I'm still trying to get rid of my current shoes.

From what I hear, rims with clear coats don't hold up too well. If you like the look of clear coat, get rims with an ultra finish. It looks the same, but has much higher durability. At least that's what I've been told. Not sure if that was a sale's pitch, but thought I'd pass it along.

Well, have fun.
