What kind of diff is in it? I am loving my newly installed Detroit locker. Not nearly as bad on the road as I thought it was going to be, but awesome off road.

At this point I've gotta decide wether I'm gonna redo the rear shocks now or later. Later means I just need a new set of u-bolts, but if I do them with this mod I have to figure out how I'm gonna mount them and build new mounts. I'm also installing my FRORF full-floater/disk brake kit at the same time. Luckily I have a spare housing so it's only gonna be a few hours downtime for the truck to swap the complete axle in.

Toy e-locker regeared to 5.29 with Precision Gear, thanks to Jim at Inchwormgear.com

i didn't know they could be geared that low. did they just find a way to do that?

also, will you be doing a write-up on your install? i'd sure be interested in reading it.

Not sure what to think about the other number I found on the ring gear...

Hell, you could put in a 5.71 set if you really wanted, but I don't see why anyone would bother since the pinion on that cut is way too weak. It's been done ever since the start, but for most people 4.56 is good enough. They use standard 8" V6 gearsets, and you can install a 4-cyl gearset if you use a pinion spacer to make up the difference. You can also get a high-pinion for the front (solid axle) with gears down to 5.29, I'm not sure if anyone makes a 5.71 for that. I'm gonna do at least a brief writeup, not sure at this point how far I'll go with that but it could end up being epic with all that's being done.

nice nice!!! i like i like! i just recently got a rear diff as well. ... well... just the r & p. they broke last month so go new r & p by US GEARS. i have an ARB air locker already... so i took the pumpkin out and brought just that to the shop. they charged me $200 for the gears, and $190 for the labor. not bad. i have them geared at 4.56 that works just great, and im running 35's. most people that rund 35's usually get 5.29... but the pinion is getting realli tiny at that point... 5.71 would be HELLA tiny!

but ur diff looks great! tell us how it all goes!!!

That's cool Shane. Right now I'm debating whether to get an E-locker or ARB to replace my Detroit.

Are LSD's good enough for serious wheeling?

I read this story at 4X4 Wire about using an LSD pumpkin (8" 4 pinion) from a 3rd gen Supra for the rear:

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/supra_lsd/

And I'm curious to know if an LSD pumpkin from a 2nd gen Supra (7.5" 4 pinion) could be fitted into the front diff.

But, the gears will have to be changed, my 2nd gen Supra had a 4:30 ratio LSD, and a friends 3rd gen Turbo model had a 3:87 LSD.
