Question about JDM 5vz-fe swap

I just bought a JDM 3.4 engine with 5 speed trans and transfer case for my 99 Tacoma. My truck a auto and I’ve been want to do a 5 speed swap on it for a while. My question is about the transfer case. It appears from looking at it from the outside to be just like a j shifter case but when you shift it, it’s not in the j configuration. It a pattern like this.

——- 4l
— —--l
——- N
— 4H-
—- l
— 2H

does anyone have any experience with one of these?

Not completely clear on what you're asking, but here's the t-case shift knob on my 98

Yes that’s the same one that I have in my truck now. The new transfer case on the JDM swap I bought is different. If you look at the picture I posted of the shift knob on eBay that is the same shift pattern of the transfer case I got with the JDM swap. 2H is all the way down and left. Were as all the other t-cases 2H is up and left. I know I’m probably not explaining it good but I can’t figure out why it’s different. I can’t find anything online about one that shifts like this one.

Huh. Yeah I don't know enough about these years to know if t-cases on models other than Tacomas would bolt up the Tacoma V6 tranny...I'll admit that when I've rode in friends Tacomas, I've never really looked to see if their shift pattern is different. Did you ask JDM?

Maybe this will help you, it shouldn't have a shifter like you pictured though, it should just be straight with 3 positions, it would look like one of the options attached, if it's not the same system as you have you'll need all the 4wd and abs ecu's and associated wiring for it to work. I don't think the jdms got the USDM 01-02 systems, so it sounds like you have the 96-98 style LTD Tcase, JDM switched the tcase up at different times than the USDM 4R's/Hilux surfs and uses this system in other models that had the 5Vz-Fe and diesel versions

This is not a part time transfer case. No 2WD to be seen. It may have come out of a Prado.

Maybe this video will help you see what I’m talking about.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but...

Did you have to switch a lot of stuff from your old engine to the JDM engine?

The only thing I switched on the engine was the throttle body because of how the cables hooked up the jdm throttle body were a little different than my original throttle body.

Turns out that this is indeed a awd t-case.
