How exactly to mount winch...

I need to move the winch to the front and rear as needed, therefor I guess I need recievers mounted onto the front and rear...how do I have a hitch but keep a bumper as well? I remember seeing a pic of a mount on umm I forget whose it was, it's the all show no go (just kidding) orange one with the bedliner on the outside. (I really like your rig honest)

Anyway, would I need a custom rear bumper? I wouldn't mind getting ONE custom bumper, but I'd rather stick with stock in the front if i can...I wouldn't mind cutting it to all hell if it needed it, though.

Here is my custom rear bumper.

There is a receiver and it doesn't decrease my departure angle.

Nice truck, thanks for changing your sig, that was a nice list, but I've seen shorter thesis papers. Will that bumper handle the strain of an 8,000lb winch???? Do they sell one for the front with a hitch as well?

I saw a pathfinder once in my MSR days that had several hard points with pullies on them scattered arround the truck so that he could run his winch line anywhere he wanted! He even had them so that he could run the line under the truck, up b/t the doors to the roof rack so that he could cross steep grades with out tumbling down the hill!!!

I don't see why not. A winch pulls slowly, and you would still try to get your tires to grab while pulling with the winch (if you were the one stuck) and if you were the anchor vehicle, then well as long as you don't overload the winch it should be fine. After all what is the difference between yanking someone with your truck and a winch slowly pulling? I think that the force of yanking is much greater after all. On the snow run, I was tha anchor for a 2001 Tacoma that was the anchor for Rob's (WATRD.com) truck when he was winching off the 2001-no problems there.

I ran across this the other day.

<---

It will allow you to mount a winch fore & aft if you have a receiver.
These can take away on ground clearance though, but might be OK for an emergency

Find a welder who makes hitches and they'll be able to do it for you for a couple hundred bucks. Just look in the phone book.

My area is EXTREMELY low on shops that do ANY type of "custom" work. It's been a major PITA to find even a place that will mandrel bend exhaust. I wish there were more small businesses around here, instead of just chains that only do a narrow range of service.
