sorry, I was busy all the weekend. 2" isn't enough for the port to breathe, at least 6" is plenty for the port to breathe. sub up and port up is the only way to go. its gonna be one heavy box. i'd suggest 2 layers of 0.75" mdf all around so there will be less flex on the box, bracing inside of the box. kinda like this in that pic. 4 15's gonna push a lot of air.

I am planning on to bracing inside when i get new amp.

hey don't worry. your system looks good. I used to have a little 8" sub and small amp. it doesnt matter how big or small sound system you have in the 4runner. its their own perferences. as long as you have aftermarket system its all good . the stock stereo in the 4runner is gross.

Hey 4rx, I was looking around at what I wanna do with the stereo in the runner. I've decided I dont want to keep the 15s in there because they will take up to much space. So I was looking at the 10" JBL W10GTi but it has dual 6ohm VCs. So wired in parallel they will be at 3ohms. Is it bad to run my amp at 3ohm briged? This is my amps specs...

Per channel power:
125 W x 2 @ 4 Ohms RMS
250 W x 2 @ 2 Ohms RMS
500 W x 1 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS

Sounds like it wont work but I've never seen a 3ohm amp?

I have heard good things about w7 subs... They are small with a very big punch, but I don't know how big the box needs to be though. I heard 2 8" w7 in back of single cab s10 n it was hitting pretty good. Just my .02

2 layers on all sides and bracing?? I was ganna baffle the top only and put 45 on coners but no bracing... If I double all sides, I will lose quite a bit of space, won't I?? Is there anyway to spray something in box to make less flex?? Or will it just be cheaper to double layer it... You know more than I do about boxes...

this isn't going to work. the amp might goes into protection. either two 10" dual 4ohms or a single voice coil 4ohms will work with your amp.

Chea, i heard ya. I'd get some resin and bracing for it. I personally never tried resin before but heard great results about it. you should apply resin on all sides and maybe do some sanding as well. Thats going to be alot of work. Why dont you just go with double layers on the top and do bracing on the inside? i'd get two or four rods and some nuts and washers, just like the pic that i posted.

Thats what I thought, and I would be willing to get another amp to run the JBL sub but I've never even seen one that does 3ohms. It has two 6ohm VCs so it can be 3ohm or 12ohm mono.

I can't do it at apt complex, Residents might not like the smell and I might not have a job!!(Might have to look for a house pretty soon) If its too much then I will baffel top and go with the bracing... Thanks... You have been a lot of help!!!

Screw it, just do it outside on the sidewalk. I remember seeing some guy on here who did a complete body swap on a first gen runner in his appt parking lot. lol

Chea... Good idea, but I work where I live and not ready to look for another job as of now... LOL!!! Although, I am cutting and building the box outside in one of our vacant units... We have very strict guidelines here... but I can get away with lil things...

2 dual 6ohms VC wiring in parallel = 1.5ohms load
2 dual 6ohms VC wiring in series = 6ohms load

you can hook up two dual 6ohms VC with ur amp but it lose a little bit power, since your amp does 250wattsx2@ 2ohms and 125wattsx2@4ohms. It might do about 175wattsx2 @ 3ohms.

Thanks. Its not perfect but for my first build I am proud. I am very glad I kept that cover because it allows me to pull it and hide my system or other valuables in the back. There are also open storage pockets on either side of the subwoofer.
