What i have in right now is a old sony head unit and kicker speakers. I think the unit is failing slowly. I cant even control the base or treble haha. Either that maybe my speakers needs replacing too.

i have a 98 limited 4runner.... What's a decent headunit / sub set up for a hard of hearing person who's looking for a little bit of thump? Nothing too crazy haha. I like to have a bit of class and still pack a punch. The less space it takes up in the cargo area, the better. I've seen some niffy designs here in the thread but cant seem to find them online for sale. Perhaps it's because they are mostly homemade.

So many options and so much info to learn about audio world. Do you have a suggestion on a system setup that might suit me? I dont think i'd want to do anything homemade right now lol

I honestly listen to a huge variety of music, from conscious underground hip hop to melodic death metal to swing, to the blues... The system wont be designed as a powerhouse to blow peoples clothes off, just a small well rounded set up to improve the sound quality.

So knowing proper materials , dimensions for subs, padding/sealing etc before I make it would help me build a decent quality box for a decent quality system, not top of the line.
if you're feeling up to it fiberglass boxes are nice for space constraints. let's you squeeze out every bit of space. in an extended cab you should have plenty of room to do 1 ten and leave space to spare.

also if you upgrade your door speakers to something decent and just run them off head unit power they should get decently loud to where you won't need rear speakers.

simple 1 cubic foot sealed box should do well enough for a 10. easy to build. no design really needed. should play everything you want it to as well, more or less lol.

if you don't really want to build anything yourself you could always have someone custom design/build one for you. i'd stay away from prefabricated boxes as a rule of thumb. and if you must get a prefab honestly i'd stay away from ported, generally sound like ass. building a box is pretty simple honestly. get a lot more out of your equipment. honestly for most people i tend to tell them single 12 or so in a good box will enough, that is if a little bump is all they want.

but ya, show last weekend on half power

2000 4runner stereo

I see a lot of bad decisions when it comes to sub boxes. The only way to go is to get the stealth box that will mount over the rear wheel well. The bonus to this is that you still have all the space in the rear. Also put the amp under the driver seat so it's out of the way, this makes everything look better. You can get the stealth boxes for both sides.

Only way for you/what you want but doesn't necessarily mean it'll be the best for everyone.

Cheap Rockville eBay amps, Skar audio 12" 800W & custom ported box. She bumps. Kenwood double din with the moving bar thingys because media stuff. 6.5's up front, 5.25's in the middle. Tuned to be obnoxious, but sounds amazing at medium levels. Old folks up here in Maine don't like me but the homies know when I'm headed over
