I turned 16 3 months ago and got a 4Runner. It is bone stock and I am looking at getting either the downey coils and SAW t bars or a pro comp 4" suspension lift. What do you recommend? I want to fit 33" tires when im through. I dont have alot of money. Any ideas? How tough of an install is this?

 

You can fit the 33's with one of Roger's 1 inch body lifts, the Downey coils and pounding the fender seam. That would be the least expensive way to do it. If you go metric - 285/75r16 then the tire will be slightly narrower and that may help prevent rubbing but then you have to factor in the cost of those wheels.

 

I would shy away from the saws unless your putting a bumber on. They kill alot of your flex (or little there of) you will be lifting up tires like crazy if your not adding front weight. Crank the stockers an inch and run some downeys in the rear and a 1in body and you will be good to go.

you can buy the coils direct from downey i think. their link is in the vendor section of the forum. just to help you out with your decision, here is my runner with the 4inch lift and 33s. which ever way you go, you will enjoy the lifted stance of your runner.

 

I went to Downey.com and you have to order a $6.00 catalog. Any other online stores offer these? Are the coils hard to install?

i beleive people, when ordering from downey, just call them and ask for the HD spring kit or something. hopefully someone will chime in on that note. mike at extremeoff-road.com might beable to help you out too. his name on here is XtremeOff-Road.

 

Three places to get Downeys:
1. Call the toll # on Downeys site.
Yeah, their site is lame, and it's a toll call.

2. Call up www.central4wd.com and order them.
They don't list them on their site, but that is who I got mine from.

3. Mike @ www.xtremeoff-road.com is a member here.

Make sure you get the Heavy Duty ones if you even plan on loading up the rear with gear.

Make sure you have one of these, and perhaps a friend to help you.

Should I do the coils and the spacer pucks? Will cranking the t-bars up front make up for the 2+ inches gained in the rear?

 

I'm pretty sure that 1.5" is about all the further you want to crank your t-bars so that you can keep a decent front cv angle.

Downey coils should get you about an 1" lift over stock height, give or take a little. Corey may have more of an exact measurement.

if you want to run 33s, i would say get the coils, then just get a body lift of 2 inches. i think you could do a 1inch bl , but, might have to do some fender trimming. correct me if im way of course with your plans.

I noticed Luke had the Downey coils and the 1.5" spacers. Should I get the spacers as well. You were correct with my plans to run 33"s in the end.

 

If you are going to run 33s, you might want the spacers.
See Luke's post here, he is running 32" tires, Downey coils and spacers, and just put on a 2" body lift.

If you run the pucks, you should get longer shocks.
I am not up on that, so I don't know the models.

Running the above combo with a 1" body lift will let you run 33s with a little fender massaging.
Also see our forum that is called "Frequent Topics."
It is listed on the main page right below the classifieds.
There is a post in there of a truck with Roger Brown's 1" body lift kit on it and running 33s.

The problem with a 2" body lift is you will have to cut your shifter handle, lengthen your steering shaft, and other things that are outlined in Luke's post.

With a 1" body lift, you don't need to do any of that, and you can still fit 33" tires.

Cody, I am not sure how much lift I got if you factor the sag in also, but if you do, I'd say I got 4" of lift.
I was sagging a lot.

But it's probably 2" over stock not counting the sag.

Ya, my sag wasn't horrible, but definitely noticeable. I'd say right now my rear end probably sits about an 1" or so over stock. Overall, I'm guess I probably got 3" of lift (front sagging height to current height) out of the Downey's.
