I got 2 thing I need marked off my list today. To my suprise the heli-coil kit that I ordered to fix the hole in the bottom of the exhaust manifold came in on UPS this morning & my buddy here at work brought me his timing light to borrow for when I get this thing started.

Drilled out the holes in my exhaust manifold on my lunch break & got the thread inserts installed. A couple of new studs & nut & this bad boy is good as new. No more exhaust leak. I bought some black VHT "flame proof" header paint that is rated for up to 2000 deg. that I am going to paint it with before I put it back on.

Help
OK all of the vacuum lines are connected, all of the electrical connectors are plugged in. I have 2 problems. First is something to do with my starter. When I turned the motor over with a wrench on the crank pulley, I heard a noise that made me think of 2 gears meshing together. By no means a violent or bad sounding noise. I listened & felt around while I was turning the crank pulley & tracked it down to my starter. I loosened the started bolts & turn the motor over & the noise is gone. Tighten them back up & it makes the noise again. I have heard of shimming starters before, What is the deal?????
Second I have a left over bracket that I can't find a home for. I'm sure that I will feel stupid once somebody points it out for me, but I looked & looked & looked & don't see any place for it??? Here is a pic of the bracket.

I asked a couple of guys here at work, just general shade tree type mechanics, and they both asked me the same question...."did you put the flex plate on backwards" ....Well I sure hope not! I don't think I put it on backwards, I only had it iff for a couple of minutes while I changed my rear main seal. It I have to take that back apart I am going to be livid!! Some body please tell me that it could be something else.

Not sure if I am going to be shot for this but I started another thread in the newbie tech section regarding the starter problem, hopefully it will get a little more attention.

I saw it.
I know there's sometimes some consternation about asking the same question in more than one thread, but this is one of those times where it's of an urgent nature. I don't think there will be an issue.
threads with more than a few posts are kinda a turn-off for me anyway....lot's of reading to catch-up on to finally arrive at the current situation.....so I could see a new thread catching more attention rather than an established one....like mine for example...I ramble alot in mine.
here's hoping you get an answer quickly.
