Still going strong 175,000 miles on her now. Clearcoat is going on the roof and hood. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that. I'm starting the transmission swap soon from auto to manual with a 4.7:1low range gear set. All of the parts are in my garage I just have to get to it.

 

I'm glad to hear the 4runner is still out there doing well. I recently swapped the 4.7 gears into mine and made a huge difference, you are going to love it.

 

Prepped the axle housing this weekend to build up for the swap. I plan to run RCV axles and hopefully an ARB with 4.88s but i might just run another Spartan like I have been in the ifs diff

My elocker showed up today...just in time for my head gasket failure.

 

Added some beef to the axle housing this morning with the truss, diff armor and knuckle ball gussets. The RCV 30 spline axles just showed up today as well. I sandblasted and repainted the hubs and knuckles. Tomorrow morning I will throw it on the Bridgeport and mill out the housing for the elocker diff

 

Welded up the area that needed to be built up. Took a while to indicate it all in but got it swept in front to back within .002" and left to right within .010 which was plenty good for milling the flat to match the plane of the diff. Drilled and tapped the new holes for the elocker studs. Took about 2 hours to do all the work. I think it turned out pretty well and I feel better than trying to do that with a grinder.

Got the old slush box out today. Since I'm taking the engine out to either do the head gasket out of the truck or swap engines, still up in the air at this point, I decided it would be the best time to move forward with the manual transmission swap.

 

Got the engine out this weekend.

After pulling the plugs I can say for sure it was cylinder #6 that the head gasket failed on. Crossover pipe strikes again. I wish there was a ca legal y pipe that I could put on this thing to delete the crossover

They are so expensive though. It's cheaper than rebuilding an engine but I think I can make something up for 100 that might get me past smog without too much trouble. I just might have to pull the engine to put the stock crossover back on if they fail me.

Cut the stock crossover and have flanges welded in so it can be removed easily AFTER smog. then swap the your better design. 2 years, swap back to factory for smog, then rinse and repeat. or, spend the coin, get the headers, and never have to worry about it ever again. lol. also, you can almost make your money back on those things when you go to 5vz swap.

 

Picked up the engine from yota1 today. Phenomenal place, highly recommend them. Got it all dressed back up with all of the accessories. Just need to put the fuel injection on and the 2wd pan I ordered and will be ready to drop back in.
