Tried burping the system? Raise the front end up and let it cycle the thermostat 3 or 4 times get trapped air out. Also I have seen the dashpot assembly cause issues. Might look at that.

No I haven't buried the system since I put the engine in a year ago, when I did it then I used one of those funnels that attaches on the radiator to burp. What's the fashion assembly? I'm not sure if I've heard of that...

So are you familiar with these engines at all? I don't know a whole lot about them but mines acting wonky... When it's cold out it has a surging/bouncing idle that I was thinking was a cold start injector. Well here recently it has felt like it has less power and that idle problem is happening when it's warm also... To the point where the idle drops so low when I shift or something that it dies or hesitates if I give it more gas... Any ideas?
nice work on the lights, looks like fun!

so i finally got to go play in the snow and test out everything... lets just say things didnt go as planned and the day wasnt as fun as i hoped it would be. so were out wheeling and the front end just keeps ratcheting, to the point that it is hurting me more than its helping, as the day went on there was a new noise, turns out it had worked the bolts holding the cv axle in place loose and bent some things...

also put a groove in the diff housing and up on the frame

turns out a broken pin was the culprit, put stock spider gears back in it and it worked a lot better for the new years run

some pics for fun playing around

also learned i need some more ground clearance, i was the only one that got high centered on this log

for christmas i got some new tail lights and another light bar for the runner

and the bracket i made for it

Thanks! Its always a blast. I haven't gotten to use the little one yet but I love my big bar. It lights up everything, only thing I don't like is because it's up top it doesn't work so well when snowing/raining. You'd be very happy if you got one

well i guess its time for an update, not a whole lot new but i got a few. went wheeling a couple weekends ago, been having lots of problems with my wheels spinning in the tires so i glued them on, then they decided to leak out of the bead after airing up wheeling. decided that was an excuse for new wheels lol i got some 15 inch ion 171 polished aluminum rims, looks way better

so ive been carrying a spare tire in the back of the runner with me, that takes up a lot of space though. me and a friend decided it was time to start building a spare tire carrier. i dont have a rear bumper yet so we decided to build some hitch mount foldable tire carriers. i just have to finish welding and painting it on my next day off.

i got myself an aluminum york 210 to replace my cast iron one, i tried polishing it but that wasnt going as good as i had hoped so spray paint was the next choice. i decided to try and make it match the runner as much as i could, didnt turn out too bad i dont think

Well its been awhile, not much has happened but i figured i might as well update some.
i got a free top from a friend of mine, ive been wanting one to cut up and make a half top out of for summer. i really like the look of a bikini top but i wasnt really a big fan of the flapping and noise it would make at almost any speed. so far i like the way this turned out, just need to figure something out for a headliner in it and maybe another coat of paint on the outside

i also ended up getting a really good deal on a unused, great condition csi 8500 lb winch with controller and fairlead on a multi mount plate so off came the winch plate. found a factory chrome bumper for 5 dollars at a swap meet and put my christmas present light bar on it as you can see in the upper pic.
a friend of mine recently went up to 37s on his 4runner so for the heck of it i tried them on. its certainly the look im going for, but it really does not clear. firewall needs a lot of trimming

I've read your thread from day. Good read. And what you've done to it so far. Right now I own an 87 22r pickup and plan to do some major work to it. It's rusty all over.
Good read continue it up

Bored at work so i might as well post up some progress on the ol 4runner. got a pretty good deal on a handful of parts so, the runner went under the knife. heres how its looking now

turned out a little taller than i was hoping, but i still have a 2 inch body lift that i can remove to lower it some. its now got a 1985 front axle, with long field 30 spline chromoly front axle, and a toyota elocker.

picture kind of shows how much taller it is than before. used 3 inch lift spring in the front with the front crossmember removed and the spring hanger in its place. in the back i got some 54 inch leafs from a 2000 chevy tahoe and a 2 inch block.

so far im pretty happy with how it turned out, the ride is surprisingly alright in it, just have to get used to the body roll it has now. time to upgrade to 37s so that it wont look like i missed leg day in the 4runner.
