Priest's 4runner, thoughts?
Hello All,
I thought I would start a post about my 4runner build and see what people think of it. I have a 85' factory solid axle chassis with an 87' body and a old school 22R. I bought this rig about 4 years ago and have done a lot of work to it over the past couple of years. I should have started a build thread back then but didn't really think about it at the time. So I will list what I've done and post a few pictures of what I have accomplished so far. I have a couple of unique mods (or at least I think they're unique) as I haven't seen them on any form or internet search. I also have some stuff that I pretty much copied off of rigs I've seen either on here or Pirate or just from a google search. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments that could help me out or even maybe something you see that you would like more info about.
The first picture is pretty much what it looked like when I got it. I paid $750 and it wasn't running.
It already had the following work done to it:
- 35" tires (totally bald)
- 64" chevy rear springs with o/l's
- RUF with factory o/l's still in the pack!
- Welded rear diff with 5:29's
- Open front also 5:29
- 3" square tubing rear bumper (decently built)
- Crappy rock sliders and front bumper
- High Steer (likely TG)
Here's what I've done to it so far, I won't list everything or it will take me forever:
- 36x13.5-15 Iroks.
- Fully built diffs with 5:29's. Detroit in the front and a spool in the rear.
- Diffs are gusseted and armored.
- Longfeild chromoly axles, birdfeilds and hub gears.
- Rear disc brake conversion.
- Dual T-cases both 2:28 for now, TG adapter and twin sticks.
- TG dual case cross member and bullet proof T-case mounts.
- Sky T-case E-brake kit.
- Newer 64" chevy springs (custom 3 leaf pack no o/l)
- All Pro 4" front springs.
- Hydro ram assist steering.
- EB Cam, Weber Carb, Offy intake, Rock Ripper Header and full 2-1/4" exhaust.
- Weber snorkel adapter and 3" tube custom passenger side snorkel.
- All custom made (by me) Bumpers, sliders, rear rack and pull pal.
- Front and rear 8000lb Warn winches, with in cab controls.
- and the list goes on and on.........

Input greatly appreciated.

Looking good man! I might suggest opening a photobucket account (it's free) and uploading your photos there, you can then use it to post photos in the forum

Thanks guys, I will update as I get more stuff done. I really wish that I had taken more pics during the build but I guess it's to late now. I will definitely look into photo bucket, I was wondering how people posted so many pictures as Yotatech limits you to only 3 per post.

Engine compartment
Not really much of a Mod but I just stripped and painted my engine compartment black. The body was originally red and I've been slowly trying to cover it all up. All I have left now is to swap out the seat belts.
Before:
After:
I like it much better in black.
I also cleaned up some of the wiring and hoses while I was at it. Now I just need to go get it dirty

Thanks Rick82. I checked out your build, sweet rig! I love the Exo and seeing it evolve as you figure out what you want it to become. I don't really get to use mine much as the only thing we have anywhere around here is mud, muskeg, and a couple of gravel pits. No good trails at all. I'm building it for when I move to BC and plan to run lots of trails and hopefully rocks!
How do you like the 2.7 swap? Do you think they would have enough power without the turbo? The one thing my rig desperately needs is more power but I really want to keep it simple and all Toy if I can.

Thanks! Love the 2rz. (2.4). If I was going to go NA I would look harder for a 3rz. I don't buy into all the 3.4 hype. I got a few buddy's with them and they have good bottom end and sound cool on the rev limiter but that's it for me. I think you will be super happy with 2/3rz. If you keep it stock you can sit on the rev limiter all day. Lol I had a buddy do a 2rz swap with 4.88 and 42s he could smoke my rebuilt re up hills and I was 5.29s and 36"s!
