Removed the tranny from the truck and tore it and my spare apart in hopes to take 2 bad ones and make one good one, the one in my truck had the counter shaft bearing go out and it doesn't like to go in 4th all the time, my spare doesn't like to go in 3rd and pops out of first,

Well we tore them down and my rear counter shaft bearing was making a noise when u spin it so we removed the one off the spare tranny and installed it on the current tranny, but we r guessing when we removed it from the spare we mest up the internal bearing cage just enough to have it make a noise also now.

Couple of pics of the tranny's torn apart

So now I'm stuck, all the auto parts store only sell a whole tranny rebbuild kit closed to $400, so I haave to decide what I want to do.

But on a side not while looking for the bearing on sky offroads site I saw the twin stick and decided to look up the process of making your tcase able to use the twin stick, actually preety easy instructions from marlin site, since I had the tcase off I decided to do it, now thinking of making my own twin stick, greatest thing is you can remove the interlocking pin tht makes 2low impossible and still be able to use your factory shifter no problem

Also gotta say removing the tranny is so much easier with a 2in bodylift.

On a side note does any one know the spline count on a cv axle

Dont know the spline count and will see if I have one laying around. You are doing what I hope to do someday is taking two trannies and making one out of them. Starting to get a nice little collection of BAD trannies. It would be nice to have a few Good ones.

Found the real problem to my tranny, here you can see the problem, a few teeth in a row from the 4th gear on the input shaft, and all the teeth have been damaged on the counter shaft side, also found my 4th syncro was fubar.

12hrs, tranny removed torn apart, spare torn apart, and one good one put together, and installed in the truck with it driving on the streets again. No clicking noise, 4th works, 3rd works and it stays in 1st

On another note, a buddys brother bought a 4runner for parts and is gonna sell me the 3.0 and probably some oother parts, so I may have my other runner running soon

I have a couple of bad trannies that I would like to make one out of. Is this something that is doable where other then swapping trannies, I have never worked on one. I have a FSM.

Got a second batt tht I want to put in the truck for dual batts, but the biggest thing stopping me is where to put it, haven't really spent more then 10mins looking for a spot considering the berry is my back up vehicle since I hhave the honda, but eventually it will get dual batts. The only spot in the engine compartment I can think of while keeping my ac compressor is where the MAF sensor and filter is but tht would me id have to find a spot for it, which make me think of possibly looking into tht supra maf tht works and mybe doing tht

Saw a pic of a half swapped VAFM earlier, no battery swap just shoved up behind the battery with an about 180 flexable elbow. Don't recall if it had AC though, can't imagine it did but maybe?

Well took the day off to get some things done and finished before noon, unfortunatly all my parrts and ideas are. In the white yota which is a town over, so I decide to start a new project, started on my twin stick:

Took the metal sheild tht sticks to the back of the shifter and used it as a template to cut a piece of steel out with the plasma cutter

Here I'm checking if all my bolting holes line up
Twistedyota's '87 4Runner Build thread-forumrunner_20130313_172956.png

And all the parts for it

The 2 rods are actually 4 I tacked the tops and bottoms together so I could take the grinder to them and make them match

Tht is where I left off, mybe on sat ill start putting it all together

Bought some goodies for the berry

Twistedyota's '87 4Runner Build thread-forumrunner_20130315_204839.png

2 DPDT relays
3 LED's
2 8ohm 20watt resistors

For the elocker
I'm gonnaa be using a wiring diagram close to this one,
Twistedyota's '87 4Runner Build thread-forumrunner_20130315_205312.png
I can't find the actual pic of the one I'm using but I have it printed up somewhere

The thing tht I have been worrring about so much was the resistor in the diagram, I have not been able to find it anywhere not even online. But after looking at this diagram
Twistedyota's '87 4Runner Build thread-forumrunner_20130315_205334.png
Where it says the resistor is optional and after reading many threads and lots of feedback about the about the wiring kit from 12volt guy I have found out tht the resistor is only used in some wiring from the factory to slow the motor, with out it some motors stop so fast tht they jam up.

After this discovery I've relized tht a resistor isn't needed but it doesn't hurt either, so after following ohm's law:
Resistance for a parallel circuit:
(R1xR2)/(R1+R2)= Total resistance
Ie. (8x8)/(8+8)= 4ohms total resistance
Wattage for a parallel circuit:
W1+W2=Wt
20+20=40watts

So with 2 8ohm 20watt resistors wired in parallel gives me 4ohms and 40watts which is the closes to the resistor in the picture which will work just fine

Don't remember if I posted about it or not, but 2month or so ago I painted my hood to hide all the primer spots and faded spots but ran out of paint so it has been half done until 2weekends ago where I finished it

Twistedyota's '87 4Runner Build thread-forumrunner_20130318_135320.png

As u can see I painted the center black but also took the red tht I painted the front axle parts. With and painted where the black stoped on both sides and painted the front of the hood with the red also then took a scotch pad and scuffed the red to make it fad back to the original red.
