Twistedyota's '87 4Runner Build thread

So i became a yota owner 2 yrs ago with my 87 toyota 4runner (aka the Scav) and ive been playing with it a bit but not doing anything to it due to it being my daily driver. but along my way i picked up another 87 4runner tht wouldnt start. After fixing the fuel sending unit, fuel pump and the pretty much all the other fuel parts related with the tank i got it running. Which is great because i then blew a hg in the scav.

now for pics
when i first got her

after some mudd

letting it soak in

you can see the famous saggy butt.

bye bye saggy butt, hello jeep coils

and some poser pics

and the comfy jag seats

and her sister the berry

Exclamation Cracked head

so i took the head to my school to have it hot tanked. well the cleaning showed i cracked the head between the intake valve and the exhaust valve on cylinder number 3 i believe.

so i checked the block and found it to be warped .004in in the center

so my question to everyone.

Can I use a 22r block and just swap my EFI parts on it?

so i got a 22r. however i have to use the 22r exhaust manifold because the head only has 7 studs while the 22re has 8 studs.

do all 22r only have 7 studs or is it do to the year. my 22r is out of an 85 while my re is an 87.

So does anybody know if their are any othe differances?

thats really wierd cause when I had my old 4runner (87 also) I was going to put in a 22r from a 82 and the only thing that was different was the pistons. everything else bolted up. Will the 85 exaust fit? If so then I would use it just drill a hole for your o2 sensor.

still not sure if i have to make any modifications to make the 22r work.

disassembly

so i got the old engine out and disassembled before going to see my baby girl

some of the differances between the 22RE and the 22R i have are:
1.22RE has 8 exhaust manifold studs, the 22R only has 7
2. The 22RE has 3 bolts holding the fuel filter on, the 22R has 2 of the 3 bolt holes. it has the upper 2 but not the bottom one.
3. the 22RE has a knock sensor a believe about 2in back from the oil filter, the 22R does not. and doesnt even have a place to mount one.
4. the 22r blocks are 1/8-1/4in taller then the 22re blocks

so now tht finding the height differance im wonder if i should still go forward and hope i dont have to modify any brackets or return it and look for a 22re.

other then tht i found an 83 solid axle tht needs the yoke and to be rebuilt, so if i can get the money to buy it i may be working on solid axle swap time

i can only hope but first i need to get a running engine in it so does any1 have any ideas?
