Small? HECK NO! lol. That's great, and seriously.... BRAKES? nothing small bout that! Glad it was cake, man!
PS> I"ma update soon, got some goodies for the 'electrical' end of things. I'm gonna run everything to a junction box, 4G into up to 4-(also up to>>) 8G contacts. Lights, Alarm(soon, hopefully, debts first, lol), Antenna, Power Inverters. It should be really clean and while it wont be an 'IRAB' quality bus bar job, lol... it'll work on the cheap for me, for now, ya know? lol.

Last day of summer camp and I can get life back to normal. I have had little time to get on the computer. Got a few moments so thougt I would do a little update.
Been putting alot of miles on the runner and it just turned over 291,00 miles. 9,000 to go and I hit the 300k club. To bad it wasnt me that put all of the miles on it.
A couple of days ago, I had about 10 minutes to play on the computer so I ordered my coil springs for the Zuk mod. Got my package yesterday and was happy as a kid on Christmas, until I opened it up and only had one spring. Went back and checked my order and I had only ordered one. Doh!!!! My fault, I was in a hurry so will get the other one ordered in a day or so.
Wife goes back to teaching again this week so that will give me 50 cents more week to fund my projects. Guess we are going to sell her extended cab as she is liking the 88 4Runner. It does ride really nice even with the sag and it is quite in there with the Peel and Seal. With her back to work and when the truck sells, I will get it to the way she wants it. Im hoping to have it done by the end of the year. Plan on ordering some carpet for it in about 3 weeks.
I have been helping a friend do the bodywork on his 82 Toyota pickup and have posted some earlier in my thread that I had done for him. He has helped me quite a bit on mine. I got a text from with a picture of this. I will get a better picture, but to give you an idea. I said is this a new truck you bought, he said its MY new truck.
He has pieced it togheter. I will need to replace a bed side and fender. Plans are to restore it. I will paint it like a Hunter Green or a Burnt Orange are the colors I am thinking of right now if that is the correct colors in my head.
I have a 22r, tranny, and transfer case. But the tranny and tcase are from 84-88 trucks so will need to look and see if they will work. I know I could make them work but I dont jury rig. I will do a frame off restore and start a build thread on it later. Probably wont happen until January after I get the runner finished.
I will break the truck down and put the what parts I can into the shed and the rest behind the shed to keep neighbors happy and wont spend anything on it except cleaning and painting. If I come across a really good deal on parts I will get them, but that cuts into the runner so it will have to be a great deal. Just one project at a time.
It will be either this one or my blue parts runner, but I am trying to get a title for it. I want the blue runner for myself as I have everything to put it back together and could have it done within a couple of months.

Hey Terry glad your back you have been missed, love the new truck that has always been my favorite body style. The salvage yard across from my house has one but its really ruff, looking forward to the build.

Terry - been following along. Just wanted to say that I have the cargo area wheel well carpet pieces that you can have it you want them. They are grey, but pretty good shape...might be too much trouble to dye them red, but if anyone can do it, I'm sure you can.

Wow, great to hear you're ok and back at it, Terry! I hope to get busy on mine, eventually as well....... The Cabbage Crop is shy this year of my projected yield, unfortunately! hahahaha.

Yay! A new 4Runner project!
Back to that rear view mirror on the last page, do you have any idea what size bulb it takes? I got one cheap but the bulb is gone. Did a search on this site and no luck with size.

Nice! Hope the rebuild went well. I have the same truck. I noticed you are fixing the shifter bushing. I can't always get mine into 1st gear. I've heard is the shifter bushing. How did you replace your. I see you referenced a video but can't find it.

Hello Dutch.. Been trying to make some progress. It should start moving again real soon. Got back from my 2 weeks and got to get my house repairs done. Toilet needs an new flapper valve, one side of the kitchen sink is slow draining, and the dryer needs a new heating element. I do not like house repairs. Will be getting back on to things in the next few days. Just got to get everything else in order.
Outsane.. On the Peel and Stick, I just wiped everything down with soap and water and go it good and clean. I did the sides and passenger area. I makes a difference. I would pull your top off and remove the roll bar. It will make it 10 times easier. The tabs can break that hold the panels in, but I got some replacemnets from Oriellys. Since I have interior paint, and it matched up nicely. Be careful and your tabs might be saved. There is a screw driver like tool that can be bought for cheap that will make it easier.
I used roll on bed liner for the "trunk" area so as if any liquid did get spilled it would wipe right off. The Peel and Seal is aluminum backed so would probably work just as good. I used 3 rolls and still need to do the front seat area when I get my carpet.
I would keep the strips in 2 foot sections as it can get hard to move around. Get you a cheap pair of scissors frm Dollar General and some brake cleaner as the tar will build up on your blades. I am very happy with the results of the Peel and Seal. I can talk to the kids in the back seats with out having to yell when going down the road.
Hello coryc85..Thanks for stopping by. I tried to find a thread on your truck. Maybe I missed it. Always like seeing what everyone else is building, especially the 84-89 runners. Always getting ideas from other. Thanks for the offer. I had a rust bucket that was about to break in half, not just the frame but the body too. It had grey interior and I tried on the rear carpet as it was in great shape and it just didnt take to well.
I appreciate the offer and the compliment. I try to make my builds reasonably affordable
so as maybe give others confidence. If I can do it, others can too. I am a resto nut and like originals, but if it cant be orginal, try to make it better than it was. Probably why like to take disasters and make something of them. A friend of mine seen my 4Runner when I first got it and said what a piece of junk, but got to ride in it the other day and was really impressed with the ride and what it is now. So I appreciate your confidence.
Hey Chef..I hear you on the cabbage crop. Mine hasnt turned out to good this year either. I did see some wasteful government spending on some studies they were funding. I think I am going to see if I can get funded on "Where the white goes when the snow melts" study.
But on a lighter note did get some great tomatoes and cucumbers and 1 ear of corn before everthing burnt up this year. It was hot this year.
I am going to look through your thread and see how you did your Zuk Mod. I seen some pics you put on Jerrys thread and liked how you were able to keep the mounts in to help hold your springs. Sounds like you do the type of 4 wheeling that I do and it has been working out for you.
Hey 92..I be trying to catch up on threads now that I am back. I did take a glance at yours and seen you been driving the 88. You guys did a great job and it is looking great. A big CONGRATS.
Hello Nervo..I got a pic of the bulb, and was hoping to see if it had some info on it. It looks like it might have but my eyesight was gone downhill in the past year. I used to have better then most peoples eyesight. I was hoping to see if the pic on here was readable but it isnt. I got to go to the parts store in the morning and a friend I have works there is really knowledgeable on Toyotas. If anybody would know, he would. I will post a pic below.
I am trying to get a title for my blue runner. The wife wants this one for herself and the kids. I really like the way it rides now and it still needs shocks and springs so am hoping it only gets better. I like blue and it is a Florida truck,no rust and one small dent. I have everything for it but a backglass, tail light covers and bumper. I would have very little into it. It is aways off and will have to see which one will be next. Got to sell a truck and get this one finished.
Hello ashtonbrn...You will need to remve your console and then you have 6 black screws that hold your plate on. Take it off and you will/should have four 10mm bolt and sometimes phillps screws that hold the shifter lever in. You should be able to move it enough with the rubber boot to replave the 2 neoprene/plastic pieces.
I am guessing yours is really worn down and broken that is causing you to have problems getting into first gear. I have the link below this and if you click on it, and scroll down it will show how the big "O" ring one goes in. The little one just snaps onto the shifter. I would check with Marlin on which one you will need. I dont know all of the different trannys on these and how to identify which one is which.
There is a link on Yota tech somewhere. "jason in tn" knows where it is and is a great guy, and if some reason you need to know what tranny you have, you could PM him and he should be able to help you find that info. I tried to find it and didnt have much luck and will be PMing him about it when I get to swap out my transfer case eventually.

Look to the Zuk Mod thread... maybe you said that... in my sig, ok? It's WAY more intensive, I believe... Not sure though... Maybe I did cross-post it to be thorough? lol.
The video I did should tell you everything you need to know to do it in under 2 hours, solo, under 1 hour, with someone cutting the other side at the same time you cut one, lol.
Just an add note, in case it's not clear... I cut at the VERY bottom. It's like, ....a plate came off.... i could weld it right back on in the future if I wanted, EASY! And, then we heated, bent a lil, heated lil more, bent out, ...till they fit kinda snug, but not so tight that I had to hammer them in. Also coated it a bit with grease... just once in a while, to avoid ''hoooowoonggggg'' sounds, lol. They still make a LIL noise, but nothing annoying to the point of the "tailgate arm rattle"/blow my brains out sound! lol.

Hey Terry. Interior cleanup is coming along nicely. Always been afraid to paint interior pannels. Those Marlin Crawler shifter seats are great. Just put a seat and socket in my buddy's truck, difference of night and day. Whoever pulled the shifter out last must have thought the deteriorated seat was an oil seal and "replaced" it, because all that was in there was an rubber o-ring. Facepalm.

Hello Lewis.. I wasnt to fond of painting interior panels, but I follwed DeathCougars write up and am really proud how they turned out. Mine were so faded and beaten up anything was better then what I had. I will be getting some more interior paint later this week and replacing a couple of more pieces in mine. I will post them when I do.
That shifter bushing makes a big improvement. I found out about it here on YT. Will be looking forward to more of your build.
No Problem Outsane.. I think you will like your results when finished. I am figuring 4 rolls when I get mine finished.
I had a leak on my valve cover and changed the gasket or actually teh rubber seal that goes around it. It was leaking a little and leaks drive me up the wall. I was surprised at how much it shrank campared to the old one. Still need to swap out my transfer case and I am planning on getting it done in the next couple of weeks. It wont go into 4 low and it is leaking. Now that the wife and kids are getting back into school, things should start to move again on this project.
Going to order my other coil and see if I can do the Zuk mod this weekend or next week.
While I was changing out my valve cover gasket, I worked in the exhaust. Last week it started leaking and once the motor got warmed up and the metal heated and swelled it would seal itself. I replaced the studs and nuts from Toyota, and when I removed the heat shield, I had a missing nut from the top rear stud. It is to obvious for me to miss and I know I put one on there. Anybody have a problem with one coming off?
I will stop by Toyota and get one tomorrow and hopefully my exhaust problem will be fixed.
I plan on getting the Zuk mod done later this week and hopefully get my tranfer case swapped out in the next week or so. I also plan on getting some more interior paint and replacing the pieces behind the front seats and getting them painted up. Mine are cracking and faded bad.
Hoping in the next month or so to get my AC or carpet replaced. I am supposed to meet up with a guy that is parting out a rolled 85 runner. I need to get the back panel doors and a left front mudflap. The list is getting shorter on getting this finished, I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel on the major things, upgrades and what ever else the wifey may want on it may never end.

Just thought I would put up my next steps and what still needs done and about when.
Zuk Mod.. Week or so.
Transfer Case..Week or so.
Carpet..September
AC..October
Seats..November or December
Oil Sending Unit for my SR5 Guage. Soon I hope.
Dome light for mirror.. Next time I am at bone yard.
Mudflap..Maybe this week.
Stereo
Getting it setup for towing.
Getting center console fixed or replaced.
Long term projects are going to be
Nerfbars/stepbars, wife wants them
Some kind of factory looking stripe
Getting the dash fixed or replaced as it is cracked.
V6 Brake upgrade
Thats about all I can think of and will update this as I go and find more things to add. I am sure it will grow instead of getting shorter.

trying to catch-up on threads is tough I must say. wish I had more to contribute to everyone than I do....but I really am still just a putz with all this stuff. Like to try to figure stuff out for myself and pass that trait along to my kids the same. "dad, I can do this!" is music to my ears......I think you guys understand that.

Hello Jerry.. Seems like everytime things seem to go my way something else comes along burst my little bubble. That is one thing that working on these trucks, is that it does have its little rewards, even when I get stuck on a problem, I eventually get it and it does help relax.
Your kids are lucky to have you to work on your trucks. Not enough dads get involved in kids life. Money is never enough, but at the overall cost of your 92 rebuild that I remember reading, you did great and with the 3.0, Joe is lucky, and sure years down the road, the money will be forgotten, but the memories will be there. My wife works in the school system and some of the homes these kids come out of is sad.
My good deed for today that you get respect from me for is I work nights and found a drunk that had wrecked and was thrown from his car. I work in a remote area and found him. He was in bad shape and if I hadnt come along not sure he would of made it. I know basic first aid but that is about it. Medical is one area I am a wimp in. It takes nerves to be able to deal with things like that

I got my other coil ordered yesterday. Will be looking forward to getting my saggy butt fixed. Hoping today that I get my exhaust manifold nut and that fixes my exhaust leak.
Got the next 2 days off and still trying to get caught up from my 2 weeks away from home. I am planning on Thursday to work on my friends 82 truck and getting the body a little straighter. It has alot of hail damage. He replaced the hood and I fixed it and the passenger fender.
I am hoping to get the driver fender and cab roof and maybe the doors, so will see how things go. I will try and get some pics soon of it. He knows it will be a slow process, but he is like me. Just not enough time in the day.

It takes nerves to be able to deal with things like that
yes...i've had that ride to work too.....turned the corner one morning on my way to work and found 2 people laying in the street because they had crashed their motorcycle into a brick wall. I've come across quite a few things to and from work over the years......in fact, when I'm in church I find myself saying "nobody pass out" to myself. we live in the middle of nowhere and I'd be kinda helpless without my stuff.
and the compliment....means more than you know......both about my profession and about our "hobby".
