Hello cyberhorn... As I understand it, the AFM kicks on the COR which energizes the fuel pump. That is if I understand it right. I did swap out with a good AFM and it didint change things. The jumper bypasses the COR and I do have another COR, but dont think that could be it at this time but will check it out the next time I am under the hood.
I pulled the Plenum off and then the fuel rail and left the electrical connections, ground on the intake, and the fuel supply hooked up. I was wanting to actually watch and see if the injectors were actually spraying. Sounded like a great idea at the time, but I removed the fuel supply from the Cold Start Injector and had a brain firt about how much fuel is supplied to the CSI. I will need to use the CSI to block off the fuel and see if the injectors will spray but it is getting late and the mosquitos were starting to eat me up.
I am suspecting that the injectors are not getting a pulse to pass fuel. The injector screens look great and were clean as you could ever want. Why I didnt check the Injector Resistor earlier is beyond me but I will do it when I am working on it again.
What I will check when I am out again: a note to myself mostly.
I trust my work on fixing the crimps in the wiring, so I will do a resistance check on the whole wire harness, Check that I am getting power from the Fuse BLock, Check the Water Thermo Sensor you mentioned and Check The Resistor itself.
I could also pull the computer out of the 85 pickup and see if by chance Pins 10 and 20 are the culprit. I have the ECU in the red runner but it is 87 and since it diagnostic plug is on the oppistie side as the 86, I am not sure if they are compatible.
Here is a diagram of the electric system.

The ecm's are hard to kill, i submerged mine under water and it survived. I agree the noid light would atleast tell you there getting signal. The csi does have alotta pressure. Do ecms swap out on all year efi 22re's???? I know theyres a difference on tps sensors....

my money is on the resistor not feeding power to the injectors either its not getting any or its died as the ECU are tough
thus she runs for second on the CSI fuel shot at startup an PFFFT dies as no more fuel gets in the cylinders but im also gona put a small side bet on the ECU at this point

Hello kornhuskerwizard..I feel the same way about the ECM's. I have never had one to fail and is what I least suspect to be at fualt. Seems like I do recall the TPS being different now that you mention it. So between that and the diagnostic port is the reason I would rather test with an 85 and 86 as they are most alike. 88 is the complete oddball of all of the 22re's as it has a alot different resistance on the injectors.
Here is the biggest reason I watch which ECU I swap with.

i was talkin with jason the other day some companies are now offering injector upgrades on flea bay adapters for your harness to the new injectors which flow better with finer sprays better economy an power ect ect price is actually reasonable compared to new set of factory's

The ignitor wire, the long one that travels across the engine from the main harness can often get forgotten and cause people to scratch their heads. A buddy of mine on here had that happen and as long as that wire is not connected you will not, absolutely not have your injectors fire. Terry said his is connected just fine, so I am doubting that one. But, it's worth a double check anyway. Can always make sure it's getting signal back to tell them to fire.
I've also heard of distributor problems where they are 180 degrees off... Engine will sputter & struggle but never holy start or stay started. Not sure on the pickup coil on the dizzy but I would think that would cause no spark to be delivered to the wires.
As far as ECU swapping... Nope..... I found this out the interesting way when I received an ECU from an 88 4 runner. They have a different impedance on the injectors and also a different knock sensor signal... They often also have 2 oxygen sensors. All of these will throw a code that will not go away once in closed loop... The second I put an 87 ECU back in all of the codes went away. I believe an 86 and 87 are interchangeable and possibly even an 85 if I model. Not sure on the latter, but I don't think it's the diagnostic port that is the problem... They do have the same impedance injectors , oxygen sensors and knock sensors, no? It may very well be that the 88 through 95-22re ECU's are interchangeable to some degree, but I'm not positive. I think when you jump into that area you also have differences? I thought it was 85 through 87, 88, and then 89 through 95 early on.

i had to go look Oside tiger's also injectordyne are the first ones to come up at 130 for injectors an adapters
a noid light would be the fastest way to see are the injectors getting the signal to shoot

Hello cyberhorn...I will have to check out the upgrade someday. Something I will look into if it was to bump fuel economy. I am sure the newer style is better all the way around.
Hello Mark... I the light would onlyt tell me if the injectors are getting power. I cant see all of mine freezing up. My fuel rail was clean inside, so I am not really thinking that I filled them with alot of gunk. I really dont know how to check the fuel regulator or dampner and one of those could be the culprit as well.
I am not big on swapping with different years of ECUs as most years have atleast something different, may not be much, but probably enough to cause all kinds of grief. 88 is definetly in a class on its own. I dont know the 89 and up as well as I used to. Those are what I started on till I switched to the older body style.
I think I have a couple of resistors laying around. Just not sure if they are compatible or not. Something else I am going to learn here shortly.
Got back from camping and your bumper was here. THANKS!!! It was a coming home and seeing those packages waiting for me.
Hello kornhuskerwizard... I get myself into these situations ( sometimes not by choice either) and have to start digging myself out of them and all kinds of things start popping up. It does get frustrating at times but each problem has taught me alot and gives me a big boost in confidence in being able to fix these. The fix isnt the hard part, it is finding the problem that kicks my rear. lol. It is all part of working on 20 plus year old trucks. Each fix I find and do just makes it that much more dependable. I eventually want to get it where it is so solid and comfy that a cross country trip is nothing to be worried about. I would rather have it to do it in my home area then out in the middle of nowhere. I thought I had it there but apparently not. It will be intresting to see what it is when fixed.

I was out camping and come home to Marks bumper sitting at the house. I will be putting his bumper brackets on my truck and his bumper on Mistys truck. Hers has always had a ding on the passenger side and when her transfer case locked up, the police had to push it off of the road and put some dings in it. I think I can take a block of wood and a sledge hammer and get her old bumper straightened out and get it on my truck.
Her truck is a daily driver so it gets the newer parts and I recycle her old parts to my truck til I find a better part later on. I am looking forward to getting Marks brackets and her old bumper on to my truck. When I got my runner it had a truck bumper on it and it looked tacky and then I was able to get a reciever hitch and still wasnt liking the looks of it with the reciever hitch but I made do with what I had til something came along. I think I can get her old one looking great for now and think either way it is going to make a big difference in the looks of the truck.
Getting parts out of Southern California or the southwest is far better then what we have access to here. I did put a fresh coat of paint on them but the orginal paint was in great shape as well. Thanks again Mark!!!
New brackets. Bumper should be going on soon.

looks good with fresh paint dont forget to spray them corners i sent ya
i doubt all 4 injectors would seize up all at once as well it really does sound like its electrical i was looking at the 88 book on it (i know yours isnt but they kept a lot of things the same)
theres a VSV that plugs into the fuel pressure regulator they say to feel the rubber line to the cold start injector when you jumper the fuel pump it should feel firm if its not you dont have fuel pressure at the rail check the regulator and its VSV a simple check to make sure that regulator hasent failed open letting pressure bypass back to the tank (an open loop) if it has maybe squeezing off the return line try starting it if it runs id say the regulator has done just that failed in an open state
as for testing the regulator it has to be checked with the engine running pinch the vacuum line an the pressure in the rail goes up let off the line an the pressure should return to normal
after that terry it as its been said "" If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"" then the resistor is either not getting a signal from the ECU not gettin power or its not firing the injectors due to failure

Hello Mark..She is happy with it. I felt I got a great deal. I have been looking for a bumper for sometime now and to get both trucks with bumpers on them is going to be nice. I dont like the way mine looked without one and when I orgianlly got it, it had a truck bumper which I thought looked bad. Thanks for holding it for me and shipping it out. Really appreciate it.
Hello cyberhorn... I got those corners sprayed and they are on the truck, had to take the bumper to my dads house to use his vise and get to do some straightening of her old bumper.
I will do some test as you mentioned. The Solenoid Resistor passed its test. Will post below. Jason mentioned to me that you can rent the light testers from parts stores. I didnt make it to the store today so will give that a try as well soon.

The Solenoid Resistor passed it test. So I will be giving some of the suggestions you guys have mentioned a try and also start looking into my fuel regulator and dampener. I have been looking at the Haynes and the FSM as well. I like having information from previous problems as a reference as to where to look in the manuals. That is my reference page in the back ground. It actuallys saves some time.

To make my yard ornament look a whole lot better, I took Mistys old bumper and got it straightened out to a lot better shape then it was. Still has some flaws in it , but far better then it was and will work til I come across a better bumper. I just did not like the looks of not having a bumper on it, but had to make due with what I had. It was starting to rust in the back of the bumper. I took some CLR, wire brush and steel wool and got it cleaned up fairly well. I am hoping to eventually get the underneath looking as good in the long run. I am hoping to get the bumper mounted on in the morning if all goes well.

The picture of me using the Big Freaking Hammer didnt turn out, but it helped to get the dents out of the center of the bumper inbetween both of the mounting bolts. Then I used some blocks of wood and squeezed it with the vise. Not perfect, but ten times better then it was. I did get the bumper mounted on Mistys. She helped and likes how much better hers looks.
I went to order my carpet today from stockinteriors.com and they had just closed as they are on east coast time. I am going to go with dark gray carpet and hope to get it fairly soon. Will need to wait until Monday to order it. I have used them in the past and was happy with their carpet.
Here is the back of the bumper. I am missing some bolts and was when it was on Mistys truck. Cant wait to see it on my truck here soon.

Got all excited and assembled my bumper. Got it to the house and had to disassemble it to get the brackets over the tow hitch assembly. It is not as straight as it looks in the picture but still alot better then without it. The brackets are from Mark and the end pieces are from Cyberhorn. I appreciate it guys. Thanks!!!!

whooHOOO that looks awesome terry! really it does!
ok so the resistor is good fuel filter is good pump is good WTH? that leaves the regulator or ECU you are getting good spark? AFM checks out COR relay is good... as fuel pump runs
ecu or regulator...
