Just a small update. I've been driving the 4runner back and forth to work, it's been running good, but has developed a worsening vibration at certain speeds. I checked the rear driveline, and sure enough, one of the bearing cups is getting worn out and has quite a bit of play in it. So today I ordered 2 of TG's "creeper" u-joints from Addicted Offroad, and I ordered some bumpstops for the front. I also ordered a double v-belt style waterpump pulley, so I can finally get my power steering pump hooked up. I will have to build some brackets to fit the yota pump to the 302, but shouldn't be to bad, i hope, lol.

Thanks Mark! I think the u-joints I ordered should hold up pretty well to the 302, they are rated at 4700 ft lbs of torque, so I'd probably twist my driveline into a pretzel before losing a u-joint, lol. I'm excited to get the power steering going too, it will make driving the runner a lot more enjoyable experience!!! I need to get over to your build and get caught up and see what you been up to, my schedual has kept me from being able to keep up with all my subscribed threads, lol!

Thanks man! Yeah I've been DD it to work, and so far it's been doing good, the new-to-me tranny has been holding up, still need to get my power steering hooked up though, lol.

I got my new "creeper u-joints" installed, so I should be good to go for awhile. I still need to mount my front bumpstops. Last night we got a little bit of snow, but it was really slick, so it was the first time I drove the runner in 4hi on the main roads at speed. I was a little concerned because I built the front driveline out of a rear driveline and welded in the double cargon joint and I never got it balanced, but it did well with no vibes, so I was happy! I eventually want to get the long spline kit for it though.

Sounds like you did some solid work and it runs good. Careful with all the extra power you have now not to spin out or something. Long spline kits are nice.

Lol, yeah I'm finding out that in 2wd on the hard packed snow is pretty sketchy. I'm still getting used to how it handles... just down shifting and using the engine's compression to slow down has put me sideways coming down my driveway a few times (which is a little scary since both sides of the road are loaded with trees) I couldn't even make it up my driveway in 2wd, just spins the tires, I guess HP has it's pros and cons, lol.

I've been on the lookout for a stockish 4wd 84-88' toyota pickup to use as a DD and also so I have a truck to haul garbage etc in, I'm not quite in the market to buy one yet, but that doesn't keep me from looking, lol, came across this on CL and couldn't help but share... http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/3457412363.html

You don't see them around with that low of mileage very often! A little out of my price range though, lol.

Holy-CLEAN AS A BRAND NEW WHISTLE, ED! That thing is SPOTLESS!

Hey, I could always keep my eyes open for ya down here. RUST FREE GO GETTER's are DAILY available. My Brother in law just bought one, an 87 Extra Cab, rebuilt, VERY clean, no rust, risen-leer shell.... 4000$. He brought it over for me to look at.... Couldn't find a thing wrong with it... He was down for the funeral.. and drove it back to NorCal(on the top end), no problem. I saw one really stock the other day, VERY clean, as clean as that other one, for 3200$. NOT A SPECK of rust on it. Red, too. Another I saw for 2800$, needing seats, but otherwise VERY clean, extra cab, 22RE, 5spd., 88... Blueberry blue with the Mirror lower stripe on it. 156K miles. All 4WD btw.

Hey Mark, good to hear from ya! Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it, those sound like really nice trucks for the money, and a X-cab to boot, but I'm just looking (out of addiction) for the time being, I guess technically I'm still in stage 1 of buying a truck, which is: "convince my wife I need another truck" stage, lol. Once I get beyond that stage, then it's on to stage 2 which is the "overtime stage" LOL!

Glad to see you back, 84-88 are my favs and do like the next gen as well. When I become a gazillionaire, I would own low mileage all orginal cars and trucks like what is above, along with my vintage WWII airplanes.

Not sure what the trucks are like up in the area that you live now, but if I did want one that was rust free and a good solid truck that wouldnt need much work, I would fly to Cali and drive one back. Carrying a basic tool kit and a few parts though.
