Glad to hear you got your runner going and it made the trip. Congratulations. That is a nice house and for the rent price is great. That is a great looking area. On regret I have is living in town. Hopefully things will settle down for you. Moving has alot of work involved.

Yeah rent is a lot more expensive where you are, I lived in San Jose back in 99'-2000 and shared a small studio apartment with my brother and we paid $640 a month back then!

Dream house would be a good 3-4 bedroom house with a huge yard for my dogs, and a nice big garage for all the work on the good ol' truck. Start my 2 year classes sometime next year for surgical tech. gotta love the blood, guts and stuff lol

BTW Ed that place doesnt have a garage?
Nope, no garage, just a 2 car carport with a gravel floor. I also have a big enclosed truck bed (think U-Haul) that I can store my tools in and put a work bench in.

Thanks Terry. Yeah the 4runner is running good, tranny is shifting nice and smooth. One problem I'm going to have to address is the radiator. It stays cool when at speed, but I noticed when I was creeping down the driveway the other day looking for wildlife, and the temp started climbing, even with the electric fans running. Looking at the front grille area, it could be that my smittybuilt bumper and the liscense plate are blocking too much of the radiator and preventing air flow. I'm going to have to take a look at it, maybe I'll just remove the plate and see if that helps. I think the fans are pulling enough air through, might just end up getting a 3 core aluminum radiator down the road.

Yeah this move has taken a lot out of us, lol. We barely got everything packed and loaded in the truck, then you have to turn around and unpack it all. I think we still brought to much junk with us, lol. But we really like the house, and the area. We saw a black bear last week just off our driveway (almost in the same area that we saw the moose I posted about earlier) theres also a ton of deer and a lot of wild Turkey's ( seen 13 of them crossing the road the other day) I'm going to have to get my hunting license!!!...

We got the internet hooked up, but our computer tower wont power up, so we ordered a new laptop, should be here by next week, so I haven't been able to check on your guys threads unless I'm in town (don't get a cell signal at the house) so hopefully by next week I can get all caught up on what everyone's been up to!

Lol well no catching up to do on mine lol. I dont know bout your state but here in Mississippi u dont need a hunting license to hunt in your own land. As far as ur pc tower u might have had a plug come off ur motherboard during the move depending on how u packed ur tower.
On ur heat issue are u running a 2 core or single core radiator? A guy from work is giving me a 2 core with dual fans for a camaro.. hope u can get ur heat issue fixed quickly

Your lucky, in WA state you need a hunting liscense even if you own the land.

I'm not to up on computers, but I'll probably at least pull he tower case apart and take a look at all the connections/ mother board. It has a little green light that flashes on the back of the tower (its an HP from around 06') but it won't power up when you push the main power button... actually I noticed it before we moved, before we packed it up. My wife's been wanting a lap top, I think she using this as an excuse to go ahead and get one, lol.

I'm not sure how many core my current radiator is, its a used Toyota 3.0 radiator. I know a lot of the fins are bent on it, that could be part of the issue as well, lol.

Last weekend my dad gave me back my old warn winch and my high lift jack that i had given to him in a trade. He said he'd probably never use them, so now i got a couple projects for the runner. Ill probably mount the jack like others have done to the inside rollbar. For the winch, i need to come up with a different front bumper that doesnt restrict airflow.

Excellent... I love looking back and seeing my trusty hi-lift back there.

I'm a week away from parking my beast for the winter. The road salt up here would finish off the body on my 87'. Hopefully I can get on the rust repairs that I need to do and save my beast. This is my last year of university so projects can resume soon. I'll have a list of to-do's come spring when I pull it out of storage. I heard the mice are bad this year and I'm pretty scared of mice damage. Any suggestions?!?

Hey Travis, do you remember what size muffler clamp you used for your high lift jack mount? I was guessing around 2"... I havent fully decided on how or where I am going to mount mine. My original idea was to do it the opposite of how you did yours, but you made a good point about have the end of the jack close to where the passengers' heads would be. I'm also toying with the idea of eventually building a roof rack for the top, and considered mounting it there.

That sucks about the salted roads in your area, I'm unsure how they treat the roads where i live since I'm new to the area, (Ill find out real soon) but from the score of rusted out toyota truck beds Ive seen on the local rigs, I wouldnt be surprised if they used salt here too, I hope not though since mine is virtually rust free body and frame/undercarriage!

I'm not to sure about the mice thing either. My neighbor said she has a mouse living in her car, which prompted me to go out and seal the hole in my firewall that the efi wiring harness used to run through, lol. Have you tried poison? Maybe a killer gaurd cat for the shop, lol.

LOL, but anyway, yeah I was glad to get some free stuff, lol, the warn is only a 5000 lb unit, but it'll have to do for now. I'm looking into some bumper options, probably going to ditch the smittybuilt, I could fab up a winch mount for it, but it will sit up kinda high and block to much of the radiator, not to mention I dont think the bumper mounting points would hold up. Instead of pulling my runner out of a bad situation, it probably would just pull the bumper off my truck, lol.

Ya pretty sure 2" works. I ended up using a three inch and bending it to fit into the 2" flat part of the clamp. I did this because the 2" wasn't long enough to bolt to the rollbar, add rubber spacers to eliminate vibration issues ( I just used rubber bushings from leaf springs that I had laying around and cut them to fit tight), fit through the hi-lift handle holes and still have the me fabbed hand removable bolts.

It was worth the effort though.

Poison might be a good idea. There are cats around, but the coyote's pick them off pretty quick. I think they go through at least a litter of cats a year!!! Pretty sure there is two on mouse patrol now, hopefully they stick around for a while...

I'm on the hunt for a good rust free US 4-runner body. As of next year I'll be ready to come down and bring one back to Canada. I'd spend alot less time swapping bodies than trying to fix mine. The only problem there is then I need to re-clearance my firewall... that job was done in a weekend though. Pretty sure I'd like to start with something rust free to restore.

That's a nice score on the radiator! sorry to hear about your wife's accident, but glad to hear that both her and your toddler were both ok!!!

Thanks for the info on the muffler clamp, i like how yours turned out.

Where abouts in Canada do you live? I'm about 50 miles from the border, I think the closest Canadian town is Rossland, or Waneta....my parents live pretty close to Grand Forks.

I'll tell you what Travis, you bring me down one of those 4 door second gen pickups with a diesel motor in it and I'll trade ya, LOL!!!

I know, how come all the other countries got all the cool toyota's with all best options, and the US got screwed over?!?! It's not fair, lol.

thanks liveoffroad, Im really liking the new place. Ive been wanting to post up some new pics, but we cancelled our old cellphones because we didnt get any reception/internet at the new house, and I always used my phone with the photobucket App to post up pics, lol. We have a new laptop, now i need to get a digital camera so i can start posting up pics again!
Yeah Im really glad to leave the metropolitan lifestyle behind, my biggest worry now is trying to avoid hitting deer going to/from town, lol, but like you at least you have your truck, and Ive seen your wheelin pics, you really have some awesome trails to run where you live!!!

Lol, I would love to get my hands on one myself. I've considered taking one of those mint right hand drive 4 door short box trucks, and gutting the interior and converting it to a North American lefty!!! Would make Toyota guys spin heads for sure.

I did some Google map work. I live in Edmonton, Alberta. Kinda central location in Alberta but a long way from anywhere to wheel. From near the border in Washington, Edmonton's a heck of a long drive.

But I have a yearly camping and wheeling trip I do down in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Usually either May long weekend, or the last long weekend in August, depending on what works doing. Pincher is about a 6 hours drive for you by the looks of it! It's about the same distance from Edmonton to Pincher. I have a couple of Toyota buddies there, and the campsites are non monitored mountainous sites off of gravel. Trails galore, mud, rock, climbs and view sites. Plenty of firewood (as long as there is no firebans). Always a good time.

Have you ever gotten your tires dirty across the border?

That would be sweet! Are those trucks still pretty common where you live, or are they getting harder to find? I didnt know that they came in the right hand drive configuration, I just assumed they were already in the lefty configuration!
It sounds like a cool place to go campin/wheelin! I,ve never gone wheelin in Canada. The last time I was there was in 98' when some friends and I drove up to Whistler/Blackcomb and went snowboarding...That seems like a lifetime ago, lol. I would really like to take the faimly up since we live so close, the wife and I would have to get our passport enhanced drivers liscence, not sure what the kids would need, I'll have to look into that!

I know you weren't asking me but another canuck living much closer to rossland. I'm 30 minutes north of the border loving the good kootenay mountain living. Not hardcore wheelers but there's no lack of killer trails just minutes from the doorstep. We spend most of our wheelin time accessing the best mountain bike trails on the planet.

Hello mental, sounds like an awesome place to live! I'm not real hardcore into the wheelin scene either, (yet, lol) mainly do to the fact that my 4runner is my dd, but i would definately like to run some trails and get up into some high country to see some of the scenic views, once i learn my way around a little better. I definately think a trip north of the border is in my future!

Hi Terry. Thanks for checking in, things are going really well, just trying to adjust to my new work schedule. I started working at a plywood mill and I'm working the Relief Shift, so in a week span I'm on dayshift, swingshift and graveyard. It will take alittle time to get used to, thats part of the reseaon I haven't been able to check in on everyones builds as much lately, lol. Yeah hopefully once I start meeting people and making friends from work, I will be able to find out where some of the local trails are, it's kinda hard moving to a new area and not knowing a single person, lol.
