PS> I have to pull the deck to do the Amp/s(?) so I will pull the deck out further so I can get the deck bezel that came from Pioneer on there, too... it will look cleaner that way and sit outside of the toyota bezel/housing.

Great news. My new sensors ended up fitting on my old sensor plate holder. It was just a matter of unscrewing them and remounting them on the old plate. It worked out fine. Just a lil dirty but nothing i can't clean up further down the line then paint black. It'll be fine. Yay!

Now my only problem is that I need to find a screw because i lost one that bolts it down. Damnit!

I cleaned up the house I then bought her a big flower arrangement which I then put into a clear glass vase and left it on the counter so it'd be the first thing she saw as she walked into our apartment. Lol I know right, Smooth move. Ha ha! Then, later* that night, we went to the Hollywood Improv comedy club and had Dinner there before the show started. And I managed to get 2 extra tickets because my old supervisor's best friend was the host there. So I had 2 extra entrance tickets. So we invited two of our best friends to come along. And BTW, when u have dinner there before the show, you will have priority Seating. Meaning u get to choose where u wanna sit in the place before the whole long line of people from outside come in. Soooo.... We sat directly in front of the comedy stage. Ordered a bucket of Blue Moon beers for us guys and got my girl 2 mixed drinks of her choice and enjoyed the rest of the night laughing our a$$es off. It was a great night. Had tons of fun.

We have our UPS and DOWNS but mostly good times and are still greatly in love and there for each other and always help eachother out as much as possible. Some of my favoritest moments in my lifetime have been spent with her and our best friends.
Good times... Good times...

Thanks for the congratulations. Looks like we both had great days yesterday.

OH YEA LOL JUST FIXED IT. i meant to put "then LATER that night" not LASTED! Sounds like you're gonna have a killer party. Have fun Gramps. lol jk

Oh and as far as the friend with cancer thats great news man. My girl's older sister died from cancer. Me and her sister shared birthdays. We were the same exact age. She got the cancer at about 15years old(i know, y so young) and she died at 19. It was devastating for her. Thats actually what brought me and her together though. We both needed someone to talk to and about 1/2 a year after the funeral we ended up getting together. and 4 years later here we are. I know sucky way to meet your girlfriend. Wish it never happened that way, but if it didnt happen like that me and her would have probably never even known eachother.

OH AND BTW!!! Here's what my girlfriend bought me for our anniversary. She just knew if she got me something for my truck it would make my day.
She knew i had been wanting to buy some rubber front floor mats(cuz they're easier to clean), because my carpet was already starting to get dirty. But i hadnt gotten to it in the past 2 months. Mainly because i was so caught up with the engine work and everything else ive been posting on here prior to today. So i have been getting caught up with truck part bills/rent/gasoline that i just never got around to it.

Almost look like your floor mats. slightly different.
OH and we took my dad out for the missed fathers day last week. and i was gonna pay but she took the bill for the whole family. I was like damn.... ok....

Wow, man... you BETTER hold on TIGHT to that Novia! hahaha... Oh, the 'gramps', .... hehehe... I asked for it... S'all good. But hey, it was YOUR typo, not mine, right? lol.

Anyway, wow, she sounds great, man... Very happy for ya! Nice looking mats, too, Richard They'll hold some mud fo sho! OH, btw, .... I tried very hard to find the mats I HAD in Gray.... could not find em. It's like they don't exist.. They were "Weathertech 1Gallon Mats".... Obviously, cuz they hold a gallon of liquid! ... I KNOW, sick, eh? haha... But SERIOUSLY? The ones I got for now, especially being good 50$ Quality type ones.... for 10$? YEAH, I'm good with that for now! haha.

The party will be GREAT.... Very much a group of people(my family and friends) who CELEBRATE every breath of life, as much as possible... It makes one realize how valuable it actually is, ya know? Not always a bowl of Cherries..... The Big Man never hinted it would be! hahaha... But even those tough times can manifest something good, many times.... You and your woman are a great example of that

Talk soon, bud,.... take care.

Well my check engine light is back on. All I know is this is my 3rd and last operating permit that the DMV is allowing me to get. So I have to get the truck fixed before the end of the month. Gotta get it smogged and passed. Even If I gotta pay someone to do it. There shouldn't be any reason why that light us coming up.

In the thread about that Code 71. The guy replaced Guy replaced his vacuum modulator and his TPS. so I've done te vacuum mod. I'm gonna try the other piece and hopefully that fixes my problem. I really hope all this is all done with soon.

Oh by the way. Here's a pic from the first page on this thread. This is the way the motor looked before. But its the only close up I got of the EGR. Just to show u how that piece looks as of now. It hasnt been replaced yet.

Do you think that would cause the Check Engine Light to show? It looks like a very old piece and might need to be replaced like all the rest of the parts I've replaced But if that isnt necessary then just show or tell me how to do it. And ill give it a shot.

Thanks.

TERRY i got a question for you. I seen you posted these on a SeaFoam treatment thread.
So my question to you is. For the code 71 i am having and already have a clean rebuilt engine, replaced the o2 sensor and most of the sensors, and vacuum modulator. Do you think that cleaning the EGR with this product with be the solution to that infamous "CODE71"?

Proper maintenance will help keep the motor clean. I just do it once a year on my daily drivers.

Sup bud?

NOTHING bad will come of cleaning/at least taking a very close look at the EGR/port into the head.... IF it's clogged, ..... the temp sensor and EGR VSV, etc., COULD throw a code, I would imagine. The temp sensor relays the message as to whether the flow is smoove! lol... If it's not, I would IMAGINE that the thing would read, "wow, lil hot" and possibly cause other things not to operate properly.

What does it say in the 'breakdown tree' in the FSM? Like, "If EGR TEMP sensor reads 'so and so', move onto this>>> " etc.????? Can you get the EGR off the 3.0 without tearing the motor half apart? I wish I knew more on the more advanced EGR systems like yours... Just don't.

I THINK Terry is in South America........??????

Aww ur kidding! Damn. Well its worth giving it a shot. Ive seen a few YouTube videos and some peoples look really bad. Considering that my motor was in such bad shape before the rebuild im sure it is gonna look just as bad if not in worse condition.

Well Chef for my 3.0 doesn't have a reader hook up. The Diagnostics are checked by this little black box approx 1"x2" that u stick a paperclip in to specific holes to make contact with eachother. Then u turn your key to the on position and count the amount of times your "Check Engine" light flashes on and off. It is a little pattern. And then u match it with your code. I honesty don't remember what that process is called for that test, but it was something like and EGR system failure or something like that. I can check it again later when i get home from work.

OH, I hear ya, and I think you misunderstood what I was saying...

EGR systems have a few elements involved. One could fail on my year model(like the modulator, etc.) and NEVER throw a code... In fact, there is no EGR code for my rig because there is no EGR- VSV/Temp Sensor/etc. NOTHING in my system relays info to the ECU, which would give me a Diagnostic Code at the Diag. Port(same lil black module next to the Fusible link box as yours, I would assume). ON YOUR rig, I'm just curious if the EGR VSV/Temp Sensor, whatever, can just give ONE BASIC CODE.... or do they all independently send codes to the ECU when something is wrong with any one of them, independently of each other? EGR Valve, itself, even in yours, I would assume is pretty rudimentary... And since you've replaced the VSV valve for it(not sure on the Temp sensor), I would assume it's either the Temp Sensor itself(not sure how common it is for them to go out, but I HAVE seen them do so)... OR, if it's just the EGR that's so plugged, the Temp Sensor for the EGR is picking up on it and triggering a warning.

Look at it this way..... Your SECOND 02 Sensor does NOTHING to adjust settings, via the ECU, etc.... It only is there to tell you, "THIS CAT IS TOAST"~! Right?(pretty sure).... But the primary/front back 02.... totally different story. It IS, actually active in 'relaying a message that prompts an adjustment via the ECU). I'm not sure if your EGR Temp Sensor is similar to the first or second 02(in actively being involved).... I think it doesn't 'adjust' anything. Just warns that "the temps in here are NOT hot enough", etc. Makes sense, really..... if it's TOTALLY or really badly clogged.... not gonna get very hot in that EGR reintroduction tube, right?

Sorry I couldn't help you while in the store more than I tried to do, lol.... But I would imagine HUNDREDS of thread on here explain how they cleaned the 1st Gen 3.0 EGR without worrying too much about tripping out a sensor. I would imagine, actually, that the EGR Temp Sensor is separate from the EGR(or separateABLE, ya know what I mean?).... if that's the Case, start bathing that thing in QUALITY Parts cleaner and hitting it with a brass or stainless bottle brush that fits(best to get multiple size brushes kit, like I mentioned, from Harbor Freight, etc)... USUALLY, Richard, the only thing clogged, really, is the 'outlet' from the head where it meets the EGR pipe.... then, of course, the pipe itself, as well. Not common for the portion of the pipe that reintroduces things into the intake to get NEARLY as clogged as the one by the head.(and remember, I'm thinking 22RE, so not toooooooo familiar with your set up, ya know?)

seafoam wont be enough to clean out the EGR ports. got to remove it to clean it. sometimes its best to just replace but im cheap so ill clean 1st to see if it fixes it.

WARNING: see how your spark plug wires are running on the passenger side right next to the EGR tube. the heat on that tube will burn a hole in those plug wires than causing a short to ground which than causes a misfire. ask me how i know lol. the wires should run behind the EGR pipe and attached to the head anyway you can away from the EGR pipe

Thanks for the input. I didn't end up using the SeaFoam. I watched a few videos on it(the liquid one, not the spray) and seen it was more like to clean the whole system out so I didnt get that after all.

I ended up buying some spray to break up carbon. I removed the EGR and sprayed it and cleaned the inside with a brush. It had a tiny bit of carbon build up, just enough to coat my brush. But nothing, I imagine, that would cause a problem. I blew in a few pipes and sucked on the pipe with the valve and I can feel the valve inside does turn so it does work.

Then after I allowed it to dry I put it back on. And as I was putting it back on my landlord and his son arrived. Found out that 2 of his sons are mechanics. One certified for diesil engines. The other is a regular mechanic, and his truck is a 2nd gen 4runner with the same 3.0 V6 that mine has.

So... When they arrived they saw me working on the truck. He came over and offered his help and did a few basic suction tests and said it wasn't the EGR. He tracked the problem back toward one of the vacuum lines that go from the EGR back to to intake. Said one of them had no suction.

He said that there might be just one possibility it could be the EGR. And that would be would be because the one of the 2 nuts that bolt the EGR down is missing and said its possible that some air could be escaping from here as well. He mentioned a few other things but didn't get into detail because he was in a hurry working on the house in the back. So I let him get back to work. and I figure that if its possible that the sensor might be reading bad temperature then it might be that due to that missing nut. Because right where that sensor is is directly between where both the 2 nuts go. So it may be possible that it is sucking in outside air for not being tight on one side. Because if its supposed to be sucking in air from the headers and its also sucking in ouside air it might be possible that its reading too cool.

Looks like a have a bunch of troubleshooting ahead of me.

Oh BTW he also mentioned that he has some Downey Headers available. If i wanted to buy them further down the line. Said they were brand new. He bought an extra one cuz he had 2 4runners beforebut never used the 2nd one. Not bad. Didn't give me a price though. I'll find out later.
