Wow dude, Chef is right make sure she listens to that little voice in her head to stay away. Some pepper spray is a good idea and I agree with Chef again about a pistol and some training.
Good luck on the 3rd too.
Question about your front axle. That's a mini truck one you used right?
Did they come spring under? The reason I ask is that from your close up shots it looks like your springs sit on top of metal that looks like where the shackles are on my FJ62 front axle. Did you have to grind it down some?

As for the 3rd. I really wanna hurry and get this fixed. I'm itching to go on a trip already!
im not sure i understand your question. but the leaf springs do mount on the top side of the axle. show me what you're talking about

Those are my new junk axles. They come spring under axle and the metal hangar looks like what you have your springs sitting on in your spring over axle configuration.
Was curious if those old trucks came spring under axle and you had to do some mods.
I was so set on a LT kit like Blazeland I've not looked much into SAS jobs.

From an FJ62.
Could have bought the whole truck for $400. Not enough room for more wrecks. It was running though.
Sorry for hijack Redeth.

That is the same set up that we have in our rear axles. You will need cut off those (bottom side) perches with a grinder cutter wheel. I didnt mess with my front axle when it came to these because mine already had more or less at an okay pinion angle toward the transfer case. But i did do my rear axle. Here are some pix you can reference to.
Cut off:

Grind down so its smooth:

We referenced my axle to Ruben's truck who's pinion angle was already at a good angle. So you position your axle at the angle you feel comfortable with, then you weld on your new Spring perches. [i got mine off AllPro] ---> https://www.allprooffroad.com/8489su...689springperch

Also you might need to measure where your leaf springs are because you said those axles you bought are a bit wider then our 4runner ones right??? Well if they are you're gonna need to measure from leaf to leaf and make sure they're the right spot same with the front.
Here's how the angle on mine came out:

EDIT:
P.S. You're also gonna need some new shockmounts to weld on.
https://www.allprooffroad.com/8489su...689shockmounts
and also these flip kits:https://www.allprooffroad.com/8489su.../pickupflipkit which you can buy at any auto store like AutoZone or O'reily. I'm sure it'd be cheaper. Thats what i ended up doing

Stand by i got some great news coming up!

The good and then the bad. :)
So I removed the rear 3rd member today. And i did not find a single thing wrong with my 3rd. No scratches, chippings, teeth missing off gears, and no more other shards of metal like the one in the previous post.
Anyway. i took some pix and videos prior to my good news.

Short Videos.

http://s10.photobucket.com/user/esam...feedd.mp4.html
Anyway, after our inspection i still didn't want to install that 3rd. I just didnt feel comfortable. Ruben is a very knowledgeable man. but he doesnt work with 3rd members like Eric at YotaMasters does. Not that im saying i dont trust his opinion. there is nothing more that i would want then for my 3rd to be fine. i welcome good news. but you gotta be realistic and optimistic some times. So What you guys didnt see in the video was us calling Eric at YotaMasters for advice. So i let him know i had the 3rd removed already and it was in front of me. he had us turn the pinion and inspect the gears first, then he had us take a very close look on the spots he would look for damage if it were himself checking and pretty much explain everything we saw to him. Almost like being his set of eyes over the phone. and he had us check in these general areas(remember its a V6 3rd, 4cyl look totally different.)

Anyway both Ruben and I looked and looked and turned the gears over and over and inspected everything Eric told us to look for and everything was perfectly fine. there isnt anything wrong. Not to mention that shard seemed like it might have been too big to fit though those areas. Then he asked how well did i clean up the axle housing when i removed the 3rd. And then i thought about it and really don't only remember giving it a nice little wipe down but for the most part i only remember stuffing it with rags after giving it a quick wipe down. I wasn't as thorough with cleaning the inside of the rear axle as i was with the front.
then he pointed out the Baffles!
I definitely did not remove those things before. So there is a high possibility that the shard i found might have been to something that was broken to the previous 4.10 3rd i had. I looked behind the baffles after he had mentioned it but i didn't find any more shards or metal. so that must had been the only one. Lucky me. So after figuring that out he told us that he doesnt think that shard had anything to do with this 3rd. and thinks i outta go on that Big Bear trip with weekend. and just listen in for anything out of the ordinary.
So we put everything back together and of course with all good news comes bad news! We were nearly done tightening the bolts on the 3rd when my wrench slipped off the nut and WAAAAMMM goes the wrench smashing into my face busting my eyebrow open!
Letting you know now these pix dont do it justice. it is much deeper then what it looks. It has almost 3 hours after it happened and my eyebrow is still bleeding a little. I'm sure it needs stiches but i dont think it is really that bad. Nothing that cant heal on its own. Just gonna slap some Alcohol, Neosporin, and fabric bandaid on it before i go to sleep.

Anyway we got everything installed already. but dang. wrench to the face really sucked

Scars look cool, trucks not broken. Looks like a win all around!
Thanks for those photos. Looks like my frame off build will be good for setting that angle. How do you measure that though? Is there some sort of geometry formula for it?
I'd like to raise my drivetrain to get a flat bottom. With that and the ability to clear at least 35's I'll have to rotate the axles to ensure no binding happens.
How did you figure it out.?
Im finding this part fun. Have an idea no idea how to do it but I'll learn.
Glad your face isn't too bad. Get steri strips if it doesn't close up with a scab by morning. Might get a bit of a shiner too.
Where you a rookie at the start of this rig too? I still am bit loads of learning this year.

And yes i was a rookie when i started. I was as Noob as they come, with the exception of basic skills for maintaining cars like everyone else. But i really didnt know anything that i know now. This was all thanks to both my neighbors and all you wonderful folks here on Yotatech with the great information/write ups you all provide. Some stuff was also just by experimenting and getting bored/creative haha
Well that gash on my eyebrow did end up closing up last night. It's a scab now. I totally forgot about steri strips i wish i would have used them. the scar would have definitely healed up smaller.
As for your pinion angle, Dude that totally depends on how much lift you plan on putting on your truck. because the higher you go the higher the transfer case goes. And the more of an angle you need to put the pinion at. Also the higher you go sometimes you might need to extend the driveshaft more. Like me, i had to extend my drive shaft 2 times.... -_- the first time was for that approx 2-3 lift. the 2nd time i found that that length wasnt long enoough and needed a few more inches so i had to get it extended once again.
Really the way we did it was more or less eyeballed it. It doesn't have to be perfectly straight. We just made sure to use a level to ensure that they were both level with each other. And since my neighbour also has an allpro 4" lift we just more or less compared his pinion angle with mine and that's how we figured mine out.
Since you don't have another truck to reference to for yours I recomend you just put the axle under your truck on a jack and lift it. Then just point your pinion to your transfercase or driveshaft and once you have it more or less pointing straight at it then mark where your spring hangers go with a marker. Just make sure that your leaf springs are already installed if you plan to have a lift on the rig.

GLAD to hear its likely just not a thorough cleaning that happened with the metal shard can you check the old 3rds to see? or did they get recycled
thanks for yacking with me on the phone didnt mean to take so long

First of all i would like to inform you all of something that always has mixed messages here on yotatech.
Having a Front Locker (Spartan Locker in my case) I always hear that having a front locker is dangerous and i hear that people avoid locking their front axles for that reason. I just want to say that having a front locker does not affect you in any way in the street. So long as your 4x4 is not engaged then you are perfectly fine. I Tested this theory yesterday and yes it does suck when driving in 4x4 in the street. DO NOT TRY IT! i noticed my steering wheel would jerk at times, and when i would try to turn my steering wheel as i would park or pull into the driveway that i couldnt turn my steering wheel very much. it was extremely hard and i didnt wanna force it. Once i would disengage the 4x4 then all would be fine. So if you want a front locker i just dont recomened you guys using the 4x4 on the streets cuz it does suck on the street.
On the other hand, it's performance off-road is completely the opposite, It is great! you get tons of traction. and you are also able to steer! Really you gotta use your engine at times to assist with your turns. but nothing too bad that makes you hate the experience. Watch the videos i upload and you will see what i mean. The performance of having Front and Rear Lockers is like a night and day difference! Not to mention this SAS job and all the other things i added on(lift, 4.88's, lockers, new springs, hy-steer, and 33's. IT WAS MONEY WELL SPENT GUYS. After todays trip i absolutely despise my old IFS set up. I am 100% satisfied with the results and all the all around performance of my rig now! All i need now is my Tire Carrier/bumper, and front bumper/winch/lights and i am completely with off road upgrades.
Also I'd like to say that my rear leaf springs performed flawlessly. You can see in some of the pix that the tire gets stuffed in the wheel well, Only downfall is that the down travel is probably at about 1" less then where it should be at due to the leaf spring i added. BUT i still performed great and my truck stayed level. I think it is well worth the sacrifice because i carry a lot of crap in my rear so i'm happy with it. I'll let the pix speak for themselves and you guys can make your own opinion about them.
With all that said LETS GET TO SOME FREEKIN' PICTURES! ...right??? *YEAAAA!*
I'll just start in order. These pix were taken when we were on the way over there still, already in big bear-ish area.
Mom loved these flowers. I admit they did smell really good. lol

Some Scenery

Phone pix from the dash holder as we go into the trail.

Pulled off to the side to engage the aisin hubs/4x4low

Love this picture

My Parents. Who by the way had a GRRRR-EEEEAAAAT time!

It took me about half an hour to fully get comfortable with driving the truck with all these upgrades. So i do have a few poser shots. You will see the pix get better as you scroll down showing that i was getting more and more comfortable with driving my truck. So please bear with the first wanna be flex shots lol I promise it gets better lol
POSER SHOT! Seriously thought i was flexing from the inside of the truck hahaha.

Here is the very first rock/boulder garden that we went through. Mind you i was having some trouble with very low RPM's at first. after about 40 minutes of struggleing it donged on me. DUHHH Adjust the flat head screw to increase your airflor to normal RPMS! urghhh after that everything went smoothly. But in this video you will see how many times my truck turned off. It was very frustrating.
I'll just upload the pix in the order as we went through the trail.

This is Rubens 85 Toyota Cab Extended bed pickup. Allpro 4-5 inch lift, detroit lockers front and rear, 4.88 gears, and marlin crawler transfercase

Here is me going through the rock garden directly in front of where the pix above are. Still had some trouble keeping the truck from turning off due to lack of air flow here. but you can see the axle flexing in action in these next few videos
Some more pix:

All checking out Rubens Marlin transfer case in action

Ran into a group of 15 jeeps Local to the Big Bear Area. Such a pain having to wait on them. Some of these guys said they have spent 70grand on their rigs and it was really sad at the felx some of these rigs just dont get. check it out

...us waiting patiently from afar lol

Can you say STIFF!!!

My truck:

My favorite picture here:

Bumper got damaged on that boulder that my rear tire is on on the above picture. oh well, I'll be replacing it soon anyway so thats fine.

Stopped to have some sandwiches.

SOOOO glad we installed this diff armor.

While on lunch we came across this guy. His Diffs are like a SFA but its kind of like AN IFS its wierd to explain. its a mixute of IFS and SFA. It was awesome. Holds 8 people in the rear and 2 up front. and the clearance on that thing is crazy!

The whole day went great guys. was a very good trip. till we got off the freeway. Rubens truck began getting a popping metal on metal noise. and then it just went out. He thinks it might be his Marlin Crawler transfer case because its broke on him once already. If that is the case then that just plain ol' f'n sucks. he has only used that transfer case 2ce. the first time it broke on him and this would be the 2nd time he uses it, and if it really broke then dang my opinion toward marlin transfer cases is totally changed. But My dad, me and his daughter think it is his rear 3rd. The truck still drives slowly while popping. and as he pulled it into his driveway we can see the axle (3rd area) almost shake every time it would pop. so we all think it is his rear 3rd. whether it is his gears or his detroit locker. we dont know just yet. Tomorrow we're gonna remove his 3rd member to make sure. Either way he's gonna have an expensive fix on his hands. But if he gets lucky it will not be his transfer case.
Lucky his truck broke down about 2 miles after we got off the freeway to go home. so i just towed him home. Btw just as a note. I only towed him for approximately 3 to 4 miles. But during the time of towing him my truck seemed to be fine with the 4.88 gears and locker. I was actually nervouse of towing him. But this thing did great.

Thats all ive got guys. Hope you guys liked this update

I'm just so stoked for you Richard! It was really awesome seeing your mom and dad have such a good time. Looks like Ruben and Chris had a great time too!
Giving the starter a workout, hey? Hehe. ... Totally common when you're getting used to a much different setup... a lot of torque variations and such can take quite a bit of getting used to.
What a bummer for Ruben! Thank goodness it happened near home! I really hope it's not one of those super duper transfer cases that are like 1500 bucks... Don't they have a pretty good warranty?
Great pictures and thanks for sharin, man. .. old Kingsford did great!
