Hey, that looks like fun! hahahah.

Speaking of Lockers.... what are your plans? The Spartan is a GREAT product... and it is, as you can see, A FUNCTIONING/PRACTICAL UPGRADE!...if you use it as often as possible. Still, in town, I'm going through tires faster, probably the rear end a lil faster... etc., ya know? Didn't like the idea of AIR Lockers.... But now, reading that people have less problems with them than E-lockers... I'm not so sure, but EITHER way.... I'd like to be 'selectable', no doubt!

I had a great time.... Thanks for coming with, man. Sorry I didn't catch the ALHubs factor, sooner. I didn't see them until we headed over to the Rock Garden. Actually, the thing that sparked when I was seeing you on that one hill..... The label on MY glove box, too! hahaha. That's one of the main reasons I switched, WAY back. Partly, I did it cuz guys on the web said, "THEY'RE BAD!" hahaha... But they'd never got me stuck... UNTIL, one day, I was on an incline I couldn't turn around on(like back in that brush we took? But steep spots)... and I kept having to back up, causing it to unlock, but then couldn't get even a couple feet up this nasty incline to save my life/to lock them again... So GRRR to those, haha. If you just use 4WD for the beach or mild camping trips... Just for traction pretty much, not adventures? YES, they're fine. Mine lasted 20 years before I pulled em....And they'd never FAILED to lock. BUT, .... I don't ever remember having a problem like you were having. So I'm wondering/curious.... Since the inner Axle locks in the outer.... then unlocks it when rolling back in reverse... Could being a bit dry up in the front diff cause problems with the ALhubs? I could USUALLY roll just a couple feet and it would be LOCKED IN. ANYONE??? Have you checked the diff fluids? I know you're changing the fronts out... But curious on the rears, too, just to be safe, ya know? I do all that maintenance VERY METHODICALLY on "Scheduled Maint." timing of the Book. Some of it, no, but Air Cleaner Filter, Oil, Diff fluid, STEERING FLUID(HAHAHA), brake fluid, brakes, grease zerks, repack bearings, ....etc. YEP, those things.... If you're gonna be keeping it, get on that stuff, ya know? I'ma be doing my CV's here, eventually..... SOON, more likely... SO, maybe you could just do the boots(38$ for both), while I'm doing mine(so you can learn how to do some of that?//If you've not done that stuff yet), maybe repack your bearings for now, brake pads, etc., etc., while you wait on the SAS? You might not care about the IFS stuff's... But why damage it, right? YOU CAN make money on that stuff when it's time to cut it off. AND, I am thinking of swapping in the Aisin Hubs when I do the CV's.... So if you needed locking hubs up front, I could give you a deal on my Warns, which would get you FOR SURE locked up there while we wheel/until you do the SAS. The other hubs you have off the SFA axle.... They wont work on the IFS Axle ends. Just a thought. I mean, why buy and rebuild more expensive Aisin's right now when you're not going to keep the IFS that would go with the IFS Aisin Locking hubs?? Again, just a though.

For me, I HATE that the trans gives me issues going into 4th... BUT, .... it's just not bad enough to replace the Trans just yet/waste all that Gear oil/Seals, etc., that I've done. It shifts nice, etc., .... just 4th gear, ya know? The front hubs, etc.? YEAH, that can't wait(Not for me,... I know I CAN wheel another 10K miles with them torn/which I'm not saying is wise!/.... but I WONT, no way I could stomach that, hahaha). Plus, I think one of my rotors I replaced got hot or something.... I sense a lil 'wush-wush-wush-wush' brake-hesitation. Anddddd, hey, LIFETIME GUARANTEE on the Rotors ONLY thing is... it's more work to pull em. I think I wanna replace the studs on the CV's with Bolts, too, while in there(for easier removal as I MIGHT/hopefully not/snap another boot one day with some aggressive IFS wheelin? hahahaha.

You can grab the videos off my Photobucket page, too, Richard.... Just go to my album and snag em

My off-roading buddies recommended for me to get "Detroit Lockers." They've been off roading for years for as long as I can remember and theyve been through different brands and they said those are by far the beat they've used. So that's what i had originally planned to get. I hear the ARB ones are really good too but very $pricey$.

Yeah, ... well, just be sure to do some research here on Yotatech/Pirate/Offroad.com/4x4wire.com/, etc., and see what others say, too, ya know? Yukon makes the Spartan... and it's gotten very good reviews(from all I'd read)... and you can get the locker for the rear for 250$ or so... And THEY'VE GOT AN OUTLET HERE IN THE SOUTH BAY! hahaha.... So 'no shipping'. Detroits are fine products... But I'm not sure they're 'better', per say? I'm not an expert on them ALL... Just know that I'd read very good things about the quality of parts used in the Spartan/other Yukon stuff's. You gotta do what makes YOU most comfy! lol.... I get that, no doubt!

Dude I might have to take u up on that because the ones I've looked at from Detroit cost around $450 each. $250 sound much bettter and u say its made by Yukon. I know Yukon makes good products. So I might go for that. Thanks for that Intel bro. We might have to make a trip to that shop in south bay for the 2 I wanna buy for front and the rear.

I plan on getting Yukon gears when I order mine. so if they have a shope in CA then I might as well get my gears from that store too to save on shipping.

I found some BFG's for 200 today and I can't find the damn link. It was 3 a/t and one KO. It was a great price considering I don't wanna spend too much since I'm upgrading when i get my SAS

I'm sure if I had 2 Spartan lockers for front and rear I should be set right? I mean Mark, you seem do to just great with only a rear one. and I just did some research over the past hour at work and found no complaints what so ever. Only good reviews of a great quality made product. And I'm sure i can afford buying both for what I had originally planned on spending on one detroit locker. So sounds like im sold bro. Thanks for that info.

And terry! Yea it was Hella fun. Wish u lived closer too we could have had a little off road crew going on.

just wanted to chime in, when it comes to lockers you will hear good and bad about all of them, the biggest problem Ive seen with people dissing spartan lockers is the tire size the run, spartan doesnt recomend anything over a 32 if I remember correct Ive seen guys run them with 35s with no issues but Im sure thats pushing it. they all have good points and bad points. Im not downing the spartan at all I plan to install one atleast in the rear of my 86, just dont ask it to do more than it was designed to.

glad to see you and mark got out and had a good time, hope you guys get to do it more often marks a great guy I wish I could hang out with him more.

I wonder if it is the same case for if you use 2 lockers. I mean I wanted to go for 35" tires since I have 5.29 gears in my front axle. So to save money i was just gonna buy another set of 5.29's and just "go big" with the 35's. But I'm sure if I were to run smaller tires like 33's it'd be less strain on them when compaired to 35's. Sigh..... I'm gonna have to do more research on this. Because I already know im getting 5.29s no doubt about that. And as much as I've read this gears are really meant for 35"-37" tires. But cam be used with 33's.
I'll check it out. Maybe I might be safe using 2 so its not all left to one locker ya know. If not I might have to get a different one where it specifies the ability to use 33's-35's. I'll let you guys know what I decide.

I think a lot of it is yukon doing a cya ya know, theres a lot of factors to consider, I sure dont want you to think Im trying to talk you out of the spartan, more trying to give you an argument for those that will tell you "i ran one and nothing but problems" you have to lok at there situation in perspective, tire size, how do they wheel, where and what terrain do they wheel. If ther hard core full throtle rock crawling with 37s on steelies with beed locks well you have your answer of why they had issues. I think ther great for a mildly built rig used for mild wheeling.

Yeah man I need lockers!
I just noticed in your signature you did the flowmaster exhaust. How do you like it? I got smog coming up in a few months and need to put my headers, cat, and find new pipping. Do you have an instal page on the exhaust?

Oh yea bro. I love the FlowMaster muffler and 2&1/4 piping. Sounds nice and loud. Its great if you, like me, love that beefy sound. I laugh cuz it makes people turn around cuz they think its a bigger truck coming. Lol

And I havent smogged mine yet but I need to get mine done this week because my 3rd and last months operating permit expires on July 22nd. I'd say if u aren't getting Downey headers or something else that's legal then maybe you outta hold off on the headers till after the test. Unless u are having it passed in which in that case by all means go for it lol.

Also I didn't install the muffler, cat, or piping myself. I had it done at "Jacks Muffler" in the city of huntington park CA. This guy did my last truck and has done my buddies's rigs as well. He does a great job. He puts it as high as he can, as far away from the floor so it wont scratch, or dent during off road use. Its looks really good.

It's not extremely close to the body bit its is good. I have a video that I posted earlier in this thread. But ill go ahead and post it again. It was before when I had just gotten my truck with the rebuilt motor back and done a couple of things switched and fixed.
It's toward the end of the video ok.

looks pretty close to where the stock stuff was lol. looks good tho. i dont know what type of trails you guys have and seeing has your gonna get a fairly tall lift after the SAS this might not matter. im fairly low and i go off roading at least once a month. the trails i see have dented the exhaust tip a couple times. i plan on redoing the piping to make it go thru the custom rear bumper i still need to get built so its out of the way
