Hey Ray - sorry I missed your earlier response - been traveling a lot lately.
I always thought the T stat opened at 180* - not sure what the 195* reference is to but now I'm interested and will Google it
Well, I guess I was wrong:

Replacement Wiper arm TIP

Re: Wiper Arm TIP
Guys, the plastic tip that holds the pin where wiper blade mounts on to wiper arm on my rear wiper finally broke.
That tip looks like this:

It simply slides over the end of the wiper arm and is screwed down. I like simple assemblies and accessible fasteners!

It looks like this removed and disassembled:

Only the very tip that holds the pin is broken:

I looked online, but most sell only the arm (which I do not need), without that TIP that I need - LOL!

Does anyone know a place that carries it?
I want to either
- Buy brand-new, instead of same 27-YO that's about to break, too,
- Find one from interchangeable newer model.
- OR fabricate one myself out of aluminum. Pro: it will last forever, Con: will cost me too many man-hours compared to buying new one.
Do you guys now of where to buy?
Or are you aware of any later model that's interchangeable?
TIA,
Ray

Hey buddy, I have one sitting on my workbench in the garage right now. I took it off a 2nd Gen 4runner which is exactly the same. I suppose you could get on up into 95 and still be ok? Gotta be the same darn back window as the 90 or so? I know that's not new but think about it this way... A lot of the stuff that I have on my truck now is in better shape and some of the crap on the 2005-2010 I am seeing at the yard that is a little more at pick your part.... (Yes, I went in there for some CRV stuff and just to look into what it would cost to grab a 1GR-FE or 2UZ-FE equipped rig...TOO FREAKIN MUCH, that's how much! lol)

Ray - I believe I have the wiper piece sitting in my garage also. It's from 1988, but you are welcome to have it for free, altho mine is in Florida.
Also, on your SR5 rim question I saw this post on Marlin about different versions of the SR5 alloys: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=89087.0

I think Mark could build a truck with all the spare parts he has lol
I haven't had that part on my 87 4runner since I bought it in 2002

Thanks a lot, guys!
Cory, I like that post and info; the stock 2nd gen rim will give me a moderate/subtle extension beyond fender flare; A little more than stock but less than my current steel rims.
Phil,
LOL! Yep, you are right!
Mark,
No rush on the wiper arm tip; it's summertime here in SD- LOL!
Re: CSI timer, after I twisted the connector, it's working well again (Ta-Da-Vroom!). Epoxy or whatever molding is holding the connector to the metal body of the switch seems to have broke. Will try to se if I can repair after I replace with yours.
Regards,
Ray

Back to Stock Alloy Rims!
Stock Alloy Rims from 2nd Gen 4Runner now installed. Thanks for your help with the decision to go stock, guys!
Before:

After:

Now tires are just about even with the fender flares. Not sticking out too much, but does not look recessed into wheel well / goofy-looking like a Land Rover Discovery
Weight:
Old Steels weigh 24 pounds each
Stock Alloy wheels weigh 20 pounds each.
Now need to sell the old steels.
I wonder how much would be fair asking price. $50 for all four?
Here are pics with the old Steels installed:
(I'll post pics with stock rims later)

Old rims were made by Bordem NE in Brazil

Apparently Bordem had been bought by hayes-lemmerz
Quality Inspection sticker says, "Pacific Wheels, Long Beach CA"

Tires installed on old steel rims stuck out beyond fender flare by about 1.75" in front:

Tire stuck out by about 3/4 inches in back:

Fog Light Project
Thanks, diableri!
I'm also starting to to brainstorm/research my Fog Light Project. I want to keep openings/mounting location as stock as possible.
One favorite potential is current location of turn signals on bumper. My reasons for liking it:

Is this a simple and elegant fog light, or is this simple and elegant?

In order to make that opening available, I'll need to combine my turn signal with the marker. I like this option also, because that would put the front turn signal higher and at the corner for better visibility. I think best approach would be combining marker and turn signal into one 1157 fixture - Like 4Crawler had done.
Potential parts:
Dual-Intensity socket 1157 (BAY15D) from SuperbrightLED's
I'll use 1157 bulbs I have onhand to test the concept, then upgrade to 1157 LED Bulb from Superbright LED's when the incancesent 1157's burn out.
I'm also starting to to brainstorm/research my Fog Light Project. I want to keep openings/mounting location as stock as possible.
One favorite potential is current location of turn signals on bumper. My reasons for liking it:
- I prefer low-profile rectangular shape that match stock features over circular shape.
- Low enough for fog light application,
- Will be protected from loose rocks/road/trail debris by the bumper itself, as compared to when mounting it as low as the valance.
- Dimension of opening just about right for PIAA 2100's or the inexpensive Optilux's by Hella, or Wal-mart Radiant Effects / Blazers. I also like the low-profile foglights of early 2000's Xterra / Pathfinder. Need to see exact dimensions

I love the new tires. What model/size Goodyear are they? Do they give you much road noise.
Before I saw a bunch of people offered the wiper part I found it part 85196A for $7.25 from ToyotaPartsOverstock They have ton of new 1st gen parts. I just ordered $25.00 worth of parts from them and they came in three days.

Now,..... I know you like to keep ur looking a little shopping in other areas to prevent thieves... But now, she's looking more more flashy... So let's get going on rubbing out that pink top! Lol.....if anything its only going to protect the actual fiberglass beneath... maybe if you're able to stop by in the near future I'd gladly help you with any of that detailing! I've always been pretty decent at that. I have two orbitals as well!

When you are younger, you couldn't wait to get rid of stock rims and throw on aftermarket. Now everyone does just the opposite. I had those same aftermarket rims as well one time. I like the stock rims better.

Rims and Polishing
Completely agree, guys. LOL!
Yes, Terry, I saw them on yours. I actually prefer them more classic 5-spoke ones but didn't bother looking for them.
I find the aluminum a little bit too shiny for my taste so I'll paint a graphite color like Grego did, when time permits.
Re: Polishing
I got the TR3 Resin Glaze. I tried it by itself, without any prep on little spots and it really works well.
However, I'd like to do a better job so I want to prep a little bit more with a minimally abrasive method. Which would be less abrasive, clay bar or rubbing compound? Any recommendation?
Also, on the Fiberglas top, I'd like to do the sanding prep work myself because
1) I want to be sure it's done well,
2) Sanding and priming only little spots can be done even without a painting facility/booth
3) it would simplify shopping for final coat painter - just need a urethane finish.
Would any primer at auto store work?
Any recommendations?
TIA, guys!
