Ha ha that's better than the video of the lady doing her first oil change and dumping it on her head!.
Seriously though good job. Many more happy miles ahead.
Hey I finally got around to adding a starter relay but not the 4runner. My son's 79 Rolla needed it bad. The PO added a bypass and that started to fail. Thanks again for all the great electrical information! https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f188...29/index3.html

Presenting the Buff, Younger Sister of Ruby Tuesday (aka RAD4Runner) In the process of inspecting/buying this diesel, solid front axle LN106 Hilux. Interesting that there are two sets of shock absorber mounts on each side of rear axle. Could be to accommodate different lifts/travel?
That's great Ray, she didn't even drop the drain bolt, I drop it into the oil about half the time.

Funny, though... one time I asked her to drain the engine oil on her Corolla so it would be ready when I got to her place. When I arrived I found out that she had drained the transmission fluid - LOL! No problem because it was due for replacement, anyway, so we did both fluids.
I find it longer than the Hilux-Surf / 4Runner, but those are too hard to find in original left-hand drive so I guess the Hilux is a good compromise. This is exactly the model that Whistlin' Diesel tortured on his youtube channel here:
Hi folks,
I could not find a forum section for Hilux LN106 (1988 to 1997) so I posted on Ih8Mud. I hope someone with experience or knowledge about the LN106 could chime in. Thread is here.
Hi Cory, turns out it was jerry-rigged. Lift was too high so P.O. welded on a mount to the axle housing so the original shocks would fit. I already replaced entire suspension with proper 2-inch Old Man Emu lift kit. Pretty much plug an play, except we had to grind the rigged shock mounts - LOL!
I'm glad I did because we uncovered worn-out and non-stock steering components. I have also removed those and replaced with original Toyota components.
Will post details later.

Looking for Body Shop Tech near Orange County or Long Beach, CA
Hi folks,
I'm looking for Body Shop Technician near Orange County or Long Beach, CA who can do the following ON THE SIDE:
Remove windshield, repair rust on surrounding area and repaint, have glass shop install NEW windshield.
Remove body filler on roof of main cabin, repair any rust and repaint without using body filler. I do not need roof to be pretty, I want it rust proof and flexible without anybody filler to crack.
Repair rust under A-pillar gutter, and seal. OK to "fill" gutter to absolutely prevent any water getting on it. The pillar is redundant anyway.
Repair rust on upper edge of tailgate.
Repair rust spots on body.
Why am I looing for Body Shop Tech and NOT a body shop? Because I have not found a body shop that would work on an old vehicle. They want insurance collision repair only.
Please DIRECT MESSAGE me if you know of a good tech.
Pics and Video bellow...
Coil of horn relay was not getting ground so I inspected the horn switch and sliding contact on the steering wheel. Found the spring-loaded contact worn down to about 1/8 inch. awaiting replacement quote from Lakeland Toyota.
1986 is beyond its range of year on pull-down menu so I have to chat with them. https://www.lakelandtoyota.com/orderparts.aspx
Meanwhile to get it working, I shimmed the ring contact plate with thin carboard. Works for now.

i get that that is the oem/correct path to restoring the horn function, but, c'mon RAD. do the .22-shell casing repair and call it done (the one from T4R.org days). i did that on '87 #1 about 9 years ago, and it works to this day. all you have to do is place a spent/empty .22 shell casing over the worn oem spring-loaded contact and reassemble the steering wheel etc.
as an aside, i never noticed that ruby had the stainless sport mirrors until just now, looking at some of the pics above. those are the same ones that '87 #2 has, and i like them a lot. proportionally, they really go well with the 4runner. there are some other towing-style mirrors that were used for the 1st gens that are much more clunky-looking, with a larger mirror head, and they have a longer "down" support bar below the mirror that attaches down near the belt line of the door.
Howdy, folks! I am looking for a donor roof for the truck in Southern California to replace my rusted roof. Any leads would be appreciated.
Any idea how much it would cost?
If I find one at a junkyard, how should I take it? Cut from the base of the A and B pillars?
How have you done yours?
Ray - good to see a post from you. I don't have answers for you, but I am surprised that a California truck has a badly rusted roof. Hopefully you find a solution so the 4runner lives on.

Thanks, Cory. 14 years ago after I bought her, I found street view of her old home and there was already faded paint on the roof.
I did a POR-15 job but rust came back. Then a body shop in San Diego cut out the rusted panel but did a bad job refinishing. Then our daughter put it to good use surfing. That didn't help. LOL!
