We had planned on putting this valve cover that came with the car on since getting the car but it turns out that the paint wasn't all that great and it needs longer studs. Luckily the gasket kit I got on ebay was the old style and they sent me the one for this also. So we did add a new gasket again and adjusted the valves at this point. Also found that the PVC valve fell apart and almost made it's way into the rockers. Maybe it broke then. I got a steel one like we did to the 4runner. So I cleaned up the original cover anyhow.
we made it to another event with the Brown Hornet yesterday in Windsor Locks at the NAPA. Lots of cool cars there and on the road. It was probably the first good day for weather on a weekend this April.

you could take that red one and shoot it with black krinkle paint VHT. That’s what I did.
Well I figured now is the time to rebuild the starter solenoid. Even the bypass switch didn't work for us last time out. We eventually got it to start though. I would have done it sooner, but it's right under the exhaust manifold and had to take the exhaust apart to get the starter out. While we're there I took the complete exhaust out. Fixed some of the bad welding jobs From previous ownership.

Some interesting vehicles when out testing the brown hornet last week.
There's still something with the starter motor. Once it's hot after a bit of driving the ignition switch doesn't get it to turn over but the bypass switch installed by the PO works. I'm going to try adding a curcut relay like some of the 4runners need. Although I never did that for the 4runner, yet. It only had that problem one time over a year ago. Maybe one day.
First time we took the Rolla to a cruise night. It was a funny thing when the guy working it asked " OK what's the name on this car, you must have named it " I said "funny you should ask it says right on the passenger fender" The Brown Hornet.
Since We're still having a hot start issue with the Brown Hornet I put together a starter relay. Hopefully this fixes the issue. We will see. I color coded two of the wires so we could hot wire the starter solenoid in an emergency.
This is a simplified version of what RAD4Runner posted here . This was an easy way to put it together. He was very helpful with information when we were working on the 4runner also. I used the information that he gave me on adding duel horns and a headlight warning buzzer in the 4runner and I added the buzzer to another car and this one is next!
Well initial testing looks like the starter relay mod did the trick! Just incase though I made the push button into something we could wire in if needed but I think this fixed the original problem. Unless we have a problem with the ignition switch we could use it or if I'm working on the car and want to start it remotely. I color coded the terminals for that also.
It’s good to drive your kid’s car once in a while…note the problems they are ignoring!
In my case it was the drive shaft about to fall out of the 24 year old Honda Crv 😡
After the Brown Hornet has been good for two weeks of driving my son to his summer job we decided today would be a good day for bigger trip. We haven't done that in a little while because this weird stalling out of nowhere issue popped up again. It did it so randomly and hasn't done it for a while so I'm not completely sure if we fixed it yet. Originally I looked at the wiring going to the ignitor and found wiring cobbled together so fixed that then. But it did it a few times again after that fix. It seemed like it was more often in the last couple weeks so figured I would try the fuel pump. It never left us stranded but would just need to be restarted. Th last time it did seem like a fuel delivery issue. The pump was very old and not original plus the arm did have a lot of wear. I found an NOS Japanese pump for it and seems good now.
Not the only old car in the hood. Today's trip Old Newgate Prison
the car did well, no stalling. I hope it's fixed.
My son has wanted to take the Brown Hornet to Whickham park in Manchester CT since first getting the car last year. We went to a picnic out there last year and he had this good idea for a photo shoot by the Lotus Garden. It's a nice place and probably the farthest we have taken the car so far.
