Its about to get real 😆 new performance carburetor, why I bet that puppy is gonna be pushing 70 maybe 75 HP . We have one of these carburetors in an air cold VW beetle for the last 15 years. it came with the car and has been on it since the 80s. They have a bit of a reputation with the VW's but I got the bugs worked out long ago. I know these well. The old carburetor was good in its day but relied on too many obsolete vacuum switching valves and hoses And I couldn't lean it out because there's no adjustment. Screw due to those vacuum switching valves and hoses. This one is simple to tune. It started right up even before I got everything hooked up.
I Have some extra parts left over. I was gonna label all the hoses and everything. But I don't really think there's turning back to this old carburetor. I did take a lot of photos before disconnecting stuff though.
All set for now til we do some road testing. I'm working on something else to aline the throttle and transmission kick down cable.
next we are working on replacing bushings on the shift selector and shift rod. I ended up with the wrong bushings for the selector so tried my luck at tractor supply. I sanded down a brass Bushing and reamed it wit my lath (drill) .
Well the Brown Hornet is in someone else's hands for the time being. Hopefully parts are available but the differential gears look good. I dropped the third member off at a local Axle repair shop. He took it apart immediately! Also saw this interesting V8 Yota in the lot.

possible , I thought once I got it out the inner pinion bearing was going be in pieces but none of the bearings were broken just really worn out. I drained the oil and found what looked like a piece of bearing cage. I think someone tried replacing the outer and didn't set the shims up right or the gear lash and left some of the old bearing in.
It's back on all 4! A couple things to finish up still then time to road test. We got a decent string of fairly nice days here so I've be splitting my time between this and the Jeepster so only managed a hour or two each day and then starting only after the temperature gets above freezing 🤣
all back together. We got some road testing in and the improvements to the gear selector are nice. The carburetor was a huge improvement. I barely had to tune it. The rear diff is nice and smooth but now there is a vibration over 40 instead of 35. Today we started to address the worn out output shaft bushing in the transmission but couldn't finish the job. Originally I wanted to do that when the diff was out but I needed the car lifted more front and back to get in there. I somehow got the wrong output shaft seal. We just put the drive shaft back on (hand tight on the bolts) and I realized that the u joint is bad. I couldn't tell before because the bushing allowed too much movement. So more work to do yet.
oh yeah I've never taken an automatic apart like this before but it made it easier for me to do the bushing replacement.
Neat!!!! One of my most favorite cars I’ve ever owned was a 77 Honda civic CVCC, something about these older Japanese cars has so much character. Would still have it but I got rear ended and it was a done deal, glad to see this one getting another life!!!!

the first Japanese car that I ever rode in was a 70s Civc ! I was surprised how much room it had inside being used to them American land yachts.
I should have mentioned that this was [size=12pt]Mopars In Motion Spring Dust Off All Make Car and Truck Show in our hometown so figured we could easily make that event. The funny part is that it was sponsored by Gale Toyota in town. So I first thought it was going to be a Toyota show. So we wanted to get to this big project since last December. I don't know for sure if the 3TC is a non-interference engine and don't know if the timing chain is original so we decided to throw an OEM timing set in it over the weekend and new T Stat, water pump, all hoses and belt when there.
