I am now thinking I am going to use one of the Wolf Steel repair wheel arch panels to repair this.

You will be disappointed by their fit. Just get a driver's front fender and cut your piece from it. Much cheaper. Look on eBay for one with free shipping.
Thanks for that. For the fender lip, I think that would be a good option. But the fender buldge seems to be a different size and I'm not sure about the drop off in front of the rear wheel. The front fender's shape looks different but I will keep looking at it.
Spent Saturday morning in the woods of Rhode Island pulling parts off some junked 4runners and pickups.
there were some wild cars in there including a "space cab", a 1980 Toyota pickup tow truck, a barely recognizable FJ40
and a Triumph TR4.
sadly, none of these cars are restorable and will all be gone within six months as the place is being cleaned out. The owner claimed to have about three turbo trucks as well. I know one is a black 4Runner with the head off.
Parts I got include a black steering column cover, mudflap and rock guard for the passenger side and a real nice straight hood. My son put the mud flap and steering column cover on today. I think I'll do bodywork on both hoods and see which turns out best. I need the practice. I'd rather keep the original if possible but it has more dents than the junkyard one. Neither has any serious rust.
i also took Nervo's advice and bought a new left front fender along with a front valence from Rock Auto. My existing front fender is bent so I think I will cut it to repair the right rear quarter and use the new fender on the front.
Today since it was raining out, and I had nothing to do I decided to get in and replace the fan clutch. I had started once before and backed off when I found two of the studs on the water pump were messed up, so had since bought replacement studs. The project turned a bit "resto" and I took time to clean up the fan, paint the pulleys and will replace the belts coming from Rock Auto before the radiator goes back in. I think the new fan clutch will eliminate the fan roaring sound at highway speeds.

If you had a means to cut you could have cut the panels you need off those junked trucks if the owner had let you. When you get the new right fender there will be no hole for an antenna. I purposely closed mine before I got mine painted. We live near a city and can get stations without an antenna. They do sell hidden antennas but I saw on H.A.M.B. that some hot rod owners get a universal antenna and secure it behind the dash. I keep meaning to do that but as I said I'm getting decent reception.
The fan roar will be much less noticeable, especially if you got an oem aisin fan clutch.
I can't wait till I have spare time to fix my fender rust issues.
yes I did pay extra for the Aisin clutch. Comparing the two, movement seems to feel the same cold.
what is the issue? That they fail to lock up when hot? Old one does not lock.

he probably would have but these trucks were rough. Generally much worse than mine having been run into the ground and then sat in the woods for years. I think my passenger fender is OK. I can fix the couple small dents.
Sunday I pulled the radiator to replace the fan clutch. I bought an AISIN replacement from Rock Auto. A couple of the fan mounting studs were ganked and I had found a Dorman pack of assorted studs and nuts at O'reillys(p/n may be 23737). Then, since this is a "resto-mod", had to take the time to clean up the fan and repaint pulleys and decided to check the tensioner bearings and replace all the belts while I was in there. The USPS tracking lied to me, originally getting my hopes up that the new belts would arrive yesterday. I expect them today and will be able to get it all buttoned up tonight and maybe drive to work in it tomorrow.

I don't think they lock exactly, just that the silicone grease inside changes viscosity when hot and then puts more drag on the bearing. The grease can wear out or leak out over time (although it's replaceable) and as far as I understand it, the aisin fan clutch has a higher quality bearing.

So where does the noise originate from...the bearing failing?
Yep, that's my best guess. Kinda like the squeaking in the engine bay that's so often caused by a bad a/c or p/s tensioner pulley. I bet someone on here knows the answer for sure though.
Got home at 7pm and went immediately to my happy place, the garage. Got it back together with new belts and even took the time to pull the temp sensor and clean the threads. Left the A/C belt off for now, it doesn't work anyhow.
took a cruise around town and I can't believe how quiet the truck is now! My son is disappointed, he liked the jet roar. I told him drive it another hundred thousand(or buy another old 4Runner!) and the sound will be back.
Just rented a garage about 3 blocks from my house. My 67 Camaro which normally sleeps in my one car garage will vacation there for a few months while I do bodywork on the 4runner in my garage during our typically rainy spring. I am planning to do all the bodywork myself. I think I can borrow tools and a DA from a good friend. This should get my son back on the project running the DA for a while. April vacation is coming and I want to keep him busy.
After the body work is done, we'll turn the garage into a spray booth and shoot it in there.
May have to purchase a decent HVLP gun. Will keep the original 033 white, though probably basecoat/clearcoat and that way we won't need to do all the work associated with a color change.
We'll see how it comes out. A buddy who is a graphic artist says he can generate files to recreate the graphics in vinyl. I don't know if I want to keep them or not...to be determined.
Awesome, glad you're happy with it! The files are floating around a yotatech (or was it t4r?) thread somewhere for people to print their own
just saw what you posted about the junkyard, do any of those trucks have the fuel level sender from a turbo with the digital gauge? That's the last part I need to swap in a digital gauge cluster

There were no turbo trucks in the group that I saw but the owner claimed to have about 3? maybe more at a different location. He also has a black turbo 4runner with the engine apart for sale on craigslist. I called about that one a year ago but decided I wasn't comfortable with lack of title and other issues. His number is 401.497.3303 name is Charles and he is bat˟˟˟˟ crazy. May or may not ship things. but also may be interested in doing business because those trucks have to move in the next 6 months. Tell him Tom from Boston gave you his number.

I've started the bodywork on my 4Runner and i am starting to realize why bodywork is so expensive. I am $600 into it and haven't painted anything yet.
I bought a DA, bodywork stand, fender, hood, valence, body filler and some very expensive two part adhesive for under hood webbing.
After doing some work on the newly acquired junk yard hood, I am likely to use the original instead. The junkyard one has some rust on the underside.
My original has none. Removed the worst of the two front fenders, tried the new one on, it fit OK, but then after closely inspecting the original,
i think I may keep it. I scraped off a bunch of body filler from a previous repair, but there is NO rust in the commonly rotted areas.
So as with the hood, I think I'll do the bodywork and paint both fenders off the truck and use whichever comes out better, though I am biased toward keeping all the original metal with vin numbers on the truck.
