so that parking brake cable wasn't the correct part number, I think the correct number is 46410-35340. I made do with the old one for now, since that one is $100 and won't be here in time anyway. I'm not happy with the cable routing, but it doesn't rub when just driving, so I think it will be ok for this trip. Definitely not a good long term solution, I think a longer cable would come out straight enough to work better.
New brake hoses and rotors installed. I got pads but I couldn't get the slide pins out of the old calipers, and the old pads were still 1/4" thick, so I left them on.
New ball joints installed
New tie rods, pitman arm, and upgraded pro-forged greasable idler arm installed. The old joints seemed okish, except for the old idler arm ball joint, which was totally totally shot and I'm pretty sure was the cause of my front end shake
i used a few drifts to pound my frozen pins out of the caliper. i remember the job taking a long time. once the pins were out, changing the pads was quick.

Yea, I gave it about 15 minutes of pounding then gave up. The pile of rust flakes they made on the shop floor was big enough to convince me to just order some new ones, which will hopefully be here Thursday.
A looooong day of wrenching yesterday to repeat all that on the drivers side, flush the brake fluid, clean and lube the locking hubs, and generally get everything buttoned back up.
Locking hubs were in sad shape, it looks like someone drove through a river and they had water ingress, snap rings and springs were rusty and there was metal crud gunking everything up. Fortunately nothing was broken and i was able to clean it up, but I don't have the new seals needed to do it right. Ordered the rebuild seals, but they won't be here for a few weeks, so no river forgings on this trip.
Took it for a 5 mile spin
With the new brake hoses and rotors, I am pleased to say that for the first time since owning the truck I don't have to pump the brakes to get good pressure! And it no longer veers to one side when braking, nice and straight.
Steering felt good but I'll wait to pass judgement until it gets aligned and I can get some highway mileage
parked overnight to check for leaks, the results below, doesn't look like much to worry about
Got the truck aligned yesterday, drove it about 50 miles at 60-70mph, must say I'm very happy with how the steering feels! Nice and tight, no shimmy or shake like it used to have.
The downside... After aligning, it pulls to the right a bit when braking (though pressure is still great)
It must've been misaligned such that the alignment cancelled that out before
calipers and pads should be here today or tomorrow so hopefully that gets that
The only other thing bugging me (well, at least the only big thing) is that it takes longer to crank over than I'd like when starting cold. Then it idles rougher for a few seconds. Not that it sounds worse, but the shifter stick shakes a bit more. I wonder if the check valve is starting to go. It goes away very quickly, before anything could have warmed up.
Oh, final piece of good news, I've parked it hot the last two nights and it hasn't leaked a drop of any fluid
Breaking the tire hoist loose was a chore, I think the key is to pull it down (3 bolts on top) and remove the c clip from the shaft, and get the shaft out of the way so you can work all the internals better. A lot of the friction was just between the shaft and the rear face.
New brake calipers showed up yesterday, got them installed and I'm very happy with the braking performance, no need to pump the pedal and no more pulling to the side
I realized I didn't have anti-squeal shims, and after 20 minutes trying to get the old calipers apart, realized the old ones were bonded to the old pads... So I went without for now...
I don't know if it's related, but when going above 45mph there now seems to be a bit of a high pitched whine.
I also got a subwoofer installed under the drivers seat. Now more mids to come so I can actually hear with the windows down!
i see a lot of extinguishers mounted on the roll bar. i wonder about accessing it in a hurry with the hardtop installed and the window up. how quickly can you get that out and ready for use?
mine is located directly behind the driver seat, on the floor. as soon as i get out of the rig, i can grab it in seconds.

My primary concern was being able to grab it while sleeping in the back, for which it is perfectly situated. Didn't think about jumping out of the truck though, i should probably put another one behind the drivers seat, good idea

and i didn't think of sleeping in the back as a reason to locate it on the passenger side of the bar. you can still access the driver side floor while sleeping in the back, though.
