Nice 4runner. I just went through your entire thread. I'm looking forward to following what else you have planned for it. Curious... how much was the plane? My uncle had a 4 seater at one time. We flew it a few hours away to spread my grandparents ashes over Halsey national forest, and with how small it was and the lack of leg room in the back row my knee was hurting SO BAD and I couldn't wait to get out! That'd be awesome to be able to fly yourself to vacation though! haha.

Thanks! Right now I need to replace the muffler this summer, other than that there is a baby on the way, so I'm trying to decide if I need to switch to a newer 4runner with 4 doors for carseat...
As for the plane, this one cost less than a fully loaded 2023 4runner would cost. Lots of different types, not all 4 seats are meant to actually have adults in the back lol. This one only has enough power for 3 adults, but I spent 3 hours in back and the rear seat is actually super roomy

I know you've put alot into this 4Runner, but if you need to sell it to get a better vehicle, by all means do it. The fact is that you'll ABSOLUTELY want a 4-door vehicle by the time your kid is a year old. That 10 lb. car seat you're putting in the back of the truck becomes 35 lbs. in the blink of an eye. You'll have plenty of time down the road to get another collector vehicle. Congrats!

Yep! Definitely a consideration. Not sure if I'll need to yet. We have a 4 door honda fit that works great for 99% of what we do, it's just not great at getting down trailhead roads for hiking and camping, not great for getting out of town if it's snowy, etc. We both work from home and essentially are a 1 car house with the truck getting driven less than once a month.
Part of it is I would like something a little safer for taking over mountain passes than either the honda or the truck. As much as I love it I do have to admit it's a 40 year old no-abs primarily rear wheel drive truck and I have slid through intersections and off roads at least 4 times, both from ice and just in the rain.
But the wife likes the idea of trading the honda for a subaru, and if we do that maybe I can just get some better studded tires... many options.
welp, yea I think the time has come to sell the 4runner. I'm thinking it's time for a pickup, either 4door or extended cab, probably something with things like airbags...
Sold the truck to a girl from the coast who is very excited. So ends my story with this 4runner :'( though the 4runner will roll on, doing what it was born to do - taking surfboards to the beach and getting camped in
Nice! I had an 06 Tundra for 10 years - last year of whatever generation that was - longest I've ever owned a vehicle! I had a buddy in Toyota corporate that said the 04-06 Tundra engines were getting 500k!! Hopefully that longevity continued into the next gen, I remember all the hype when the 2007 came out.

best of luck!

Yea, those first gen 4.7s are great engines! I was looking for a first gen because I like the size of the truck better but they're actually already collectible! Especially 05 and 06 - one with 300K miles got bought out from under me by someone who paid 11.5K sight unseen. I like them but I'm not looking to get another collectible.
The second gen 5.7 is also known as just as if not more bulletproof, lots of articles about at least one confirmed "million miler"
