kornhusker wizards 89 4runner build thread

So i picked up the 85 4x4 longbox today, actually i paid for it and received the title and waited until tomorrow to tow it beings its only 10min away and maybe i can dolly it back since its suppost to get up to 50. Its by far not pretty cosmetically but he told me it runs, of course there was no battery in it and i could of taken the battery out of buoy, my 88 which i drove there but it was cold and i think parts alone its worth what i paid for it. Someone did a nasty rattle can job with red overspray on alotta stuff over the original red paint, I did score a right side tailight for my 4runner which id been looking for. The front driveshaft is in the box due to him attempting to replace the 4spd so he says with a known good 4spd which turns out might noy be so good, the top shift plate is lying on the pass floorboard but im curious cause a 5spd shift knob is lying there too. Might just be my next woodhauler.
I paid $250 for it. Whadaya think?

I say SCORE!!! front axle alone is worth 250!!! decent body, looks like it needs some mechanical work but it could be great!! only question is what are YOUR plans for it??? parts?? or trail truck?? either way nice find

I might slap a battery in it and dump some gas in the carb see if i can get it to pop off, other than that its another yard ornament til i finish getting my 4runner engine in and get it moving then i plan on givin the old girl some love. HAHA It has wing window door on pass side and not on drivers, Bummer wish they were both wingys. But one thing at a time!!

Thanks! I thought so myself. Lots of great parts, i hate to part it out if i can get it runnin, (which i will) haha. Hopefully ill drag it home tomorrow. Half tempted to throw a battery in it and see if i can drive it. All country roads for about 10mi. Probalbly better not now that i think about it.

You did great for $250. I kind of do 1 1/2 projects at a time. Stay focused on your main project and when funds are tight, there are tons of things that you can do to your next project for free or very little. If you ever wanted to learn bodywork, you now have a great candidate for it. A gallon of bondo and sandpaper will go along ways. Watch Youtube videos for dent removal and such. You are only going to improve it.
Alot of times just taking things apart and cleaning them will do wonders for it. Alot of your parts you might remove from your current project may not be good enough for it but might work good enough to get the truck running or until you come across a smoking deal for what you do need. It is tempting when you see a part that would work for your truck, but unless it is just wayyy to good to pass up stay focused on your main one. Use the truck for your spare time when you are waiting for something for your runner or cant do anything to the runner for what ever reason, and one day you will be surprised that both are done and running.

Thanks for the advice Terry, yea im waiting to finish my frontend on the 4runner before i drop the engine in, plus it will be easier to install the diff drop too with the engine out. Other than that the engines ready to roll minus the intake (still in process of eliminating egr stuff and a tps sensor.
As for the 85, suppost to be warm today so me and kelvinb might get a dolly from my buddy (no not a barbie u weirdos) and go rescue the 85.

Awesome find Chris! It doesnt look bad at all, especially for 250$$ You could do a body swap to get the Solid front end underneath your runner body. Build the Frame/suspension up, drop your fresh motor in it and set your runner body on it. Ill help!!

Thanks!! Good to know but i do have my own in my shop, older coats. Just have to be careful with aluminum wheels it likes to bend them if your not watching closely.

Nice weather today. Im taking some extra driveshaft bolts cause the rear driveshaft in the 85 i bought is disconnected off the tcase and i highly doubt ill find them, a 12 and 14mm gearwrench, air bubble, chain, 6 pack, and buoy.Hopefully the brakes work on the 85. I got 12mi of county roads to tow. EASTBOUND AND DOWN!!

I couldnt get the video to open up on mine as well. Site might be down. Sounds like you got it running, great job. I just got some new to me rims and will be searching on how to get them looking as new as possible. If I find something that might work, I will let you know.
