I found this in that thread also.

Just like already said the converter goes on the trans first. Spin it clockwise as you gently push on it and it will line up the input converter spines with the input spines and drop into place. If I remember right it should have 3 steps going in. When the whole mess is assembled there should be between 1/8 and 3/8" space between the converter and flexplate.

Heres the stuff on the spacer

The spacers and flexplate I sent you came directly off of an 86 runner that a friend pulled, then into my truck with the aw4/a340 behind a 22re so I know they were right. Starting with the crank it goes thick spacer, flexplate then thin spacer. From the sounds of it you have that order backwards.

From the pic of the engine on the hoist, it looks as if the bevel is kicking the flywheel back which is how i have mine...That means i might not have the torque converter in all the way but im sure it was.

manual says converter to housing lip distance is 16.6mm. guess i shoulda done some reading and measuring.

Sounds like your spacers are correct. Maybe just try like we talked. Hoist engine and pull back enough to see if the TC can seat further in.

Well i pulled the engine back out, and i put slight pressure on the torque converter while spinning it and it fell back in a considerable amount. So i didnt have it seated all the way in the pump. I tightened the bellhousing bolts all the way down by hand, but tight all the way around. Hopefully i didnt mess the pump up. i didnt here any carnage going together so i put it back together and am hoping for the best!!

There is no jack a** award unless you do it twice. Just once is a learning award. Keep up the good work.

Never done an auto myself on a Toyota but sounds like yo got it made this time. That having to go back and redo things is a pain in the rear but it does happen. Atleast the bolts are easier this time around.

Yep, alot easier the second time...but still urks me i had to pull it again. I just hope the transmission is ok. I will plan on getting the rust out of the fuel tank and ordering a fuel pump and sending injectors to be tested next.In between now and then i can dial in tps sensor on throttlebody, fix wiring harness that mice chewed on(not bad),alignment, wheel spacers for front tire rubbage,etc...

Nice man. A little bit or hillbilly ingenuity helped speed up the process for you.

Yea my hillbillly ingenuity comes from alot of hankiii and davidallencoe blasting out my speakers in my garage for prolonged intervals.

Picked up the rock truck and trailer for my work today at inland truck parts in lincoln, and i asked the dude if they do alignments on lifted trucks, he says ya what do you have and how big of lift, i said a toyota with a mild front and rear lift and he said a normal toyota is $75, but thats no lift, he says depending on my suspension components theyre shop labor rate is $93 an hour.I replaced upper and lower balljoints, shocks are decent, only thing they might say needs replacing is tierods, but they seem ok.

Anyone think i need to mess with my torsion bars?? I never have before so im assuming theyre at the stock location. It sets pretty level so im thinking dont mess with them.

I wish i could find a shop thats familiar with these trucks and lifts, but havent found anyone yet.

Also ive mentioned this before but didnt get a response on qaulity or info on airtex fuel pumps?? Or what would be a decent brand??Terry i know you suggested a ebay one maybe for around $30?? I dont want to replace it down the road so will try and get a reliable one.

Tonight i will see if the spacers i have fix my rubbage on the sr5 wheel with the 17s.

Love me some David allen Coe!! I could ask my buddy who is the General Manager of Rhoden Auto Center about the alignment. I think they charge 49$ for an alignment. But you would have to drive it up here to CB.

I cant help you on the Airtex Pump.
