if you notice, the mr2 caliper is bigger, cheaper, and is more well-suited for a vented rotor, like the sfa vented rotor upgrade. the only thing about the mr2 rotor is the direction of the cable pull. it goes up/forward, as opposed to towards the diff. so what i'll need to do is either weld a small tab on the current brake arm, or somehow use the mr2 cables for a short distance. not hard to do for either one.

here's a stock photo of the caliper i'm using:



as you can see, the e-brake arm rotates correctly, but the lever is off by ~90º
Great info on those brakes might use them if/when I convert my rear to discs... idea why not just weld a bracket to the axle with a pulley on it... that would allow you to change the direction of the cable pull. All you'd need to do is relocate the stock ebrake cable boss from the top of the axle to slightly forward over the third member.

hmmm... now you've got me thinking. i might be able to pull something like that off. this is still just in the planning-phase, getting a lot of the major parts while i can find them cheap-ish.

Was going to draw you a quick sketch but this 'puter I'm on does'nt have the right software... but now I think more on it you would'nt need to shift the center e-brake attachment pt at all. Since the rear brake calipers are usually mounted to the forward side of the discs [opposite to the front's rear side mount] in rear disc applications the center pt can stay where it is. you'd just mount the pulley to to the top of the axle to reposition the "pull pt." to about where it is stock.

You could get the pulleys from Aircraft Spruce you'd just need some of the same type pulleys they use for flt. controls.

so i went to check on the status of my calipers order. i hadn't gotten them in the specified time (3 business days past-due), so i sent a message to see if they were actually shipped off or not. he said he forgot to update the listing, and that he was out of those. but he did have some painted ones in similar condition, and is giving me a $10 refund. uuuuh, sure! thanks bud! so: $40 shipped for a pair of semi-loaded, painted, used calipers with integral parking brake and large bore. yeah. Short answer...
The weight of the vehicle rests on the hub bearings in a full-float & not the axle bearings like as in a Semi-Float that your truck has. Break an axle shaft in a semi-float and the wheel will walk out and away from the vehicle. Break an axle shaft in a full-float, and the wheel stays on. The big advantage is the ability to limp home on a full-floater, just pull the old axle shaft out.

...if you have a locker. otherwise, unless you want to cruise back on the highway in front-wheel drive, it's just going to spin.

calipers came in today. in what has to be the most disgusting flat-rate box ever. i mean, i expected brake fluid and rust, but vending machine sticky bun? ew.

yep. that, and a rebuild kit for the piston wouldn't hurt. all the parts move, and fluid comes out of the inlet when the pistons are pressed in. good signs

zactly. progress will be slow as i acquire all the parts, but i'm getting there. and once i have everything, boom!



also, the brake pads that i got with the calipers have about 3/8" left on them. more money saved!

(not really. i'll be buying factory replacements for sure, haha)

I wanted to see the sticky bun. Some suppliers I deal with toss a chocolate bar or two in the shipping box as a thank you... perhaps this was the same idea?...

So how are you going to attach these calipers to the rear axle? and what rotor are you going to use?

no, i meant like- he had been eating a sticky bun while wrapping the backage

attachment will be using a home-fabbed bracket. something simple i can make using a cardboard template. as for the rotor, i'm probably going to use the "big-brake upgrade" vented rotor:

What kind of bracket are they using on the stock set up on the new trucks with rear discs?

Im sorry back tracking you nut your turning a factory rear semi float to a full float right? If so man im kicking myself in the bjt gor going through all this drive train swap crap lol

don't know. most of the pics i find are of modified or upgraded brakes.
