Dunkin's 1990 4Runner 2DR Build-Up Thread

SWEET~! VERY much wish I could do this now,...but alas, funds don't allow it. Gotta work with what I got for the moment! lol.
IT IS a plan if I find a project vehicle though.... This or a 3RZ, ....love what Big Mike has had to say about that swap as well.... and, well, it's REALLY easy to get in there and work on pretty much all of it! lol.
Have fun, D!

Swap is coming along nicely. I still haven't gotten my motor mounts done all the way. Power coating still needs to be finished all the way. I ordered a flex a lite fan on ebay, but the buyer apparently broke it while packaging it up for shipment. So I need to order another one again. Rad should be here next day or two. I think I am going to just use the throw out bearing from the 3.0 for now. Hope that dosen't come back to bite me.
Making progress, just not rushing, want it right the first time.

I just noticed that you have 4.88's. Let me know your RPM's are at 60 when you have that thing going. I am cruising at 2500 at 60 in 5th with the same R150F.
I'm tempted to do the 4.88's, but I also want a 6th gear already, haha. Or, I guess I could always run a later tire too.

Will do. I think that the 4:88's are going to be over kill. I originally had 4:30's and with the 3.0 it was a dog especially towing anything. The 4:88's were a nice upgrade. But with all this power on tap, I might go down to 4:56's or even back to 4:30 gears. I have a 18' travel trailer that I tow for camping. I want to be able to tow that thing up a hill and maintain 65 mph, but I also want the best gas mileage for driving back and forwarth to work as my job status might change here soon and I may be driving my own rig again. I can't wait until trying to decide which gears I want are my main problem.
Promotion= loosing company vehicle, dosent sound like a promotion to me.
actually looking forward to this promotion even if I loose the company vehicle.

so i was reading through your thread as i am doing with everyone elses again. yours is a 95 that you got your engine out of. is it just a year split so it isnt obd2. and did you end up doing all your wiring. and did you get your over heating issue all sorted out with rewiring the fan. and did you get the MIL issue handled.

Mine is a '94, and yes, it's OBD1.
I did finish the wiring, and everything is working as it should now, other that the still non-functional MIL.
RMA is sending me another ECU to try, and the TCDL connector so I can see if I can pull codes and/or live data.
I did get to play in the sand dunes a bit last weekend with no overheating issues. The gauge was rock solid, and stayed that way all weekend. I even got stuck in an hour of stop and crawl traffic on I-90 coming back. Sill no overheating, and I didn't have to cut a hole in my hood!

I had them made at Pirtek here in Woodinville, WA. http://www.pirtekusa.com/about.asp
They were a bit pricey ($215.00 for the pair), but they made them while I waited.
Basically, I wanted to use an OEM filter, so I didn't have to have some special nonsense when it came time to service it again. So, the took my factory fuel lines, removed the banjo bolt ends that went to the filter, machined them and silver soldered them into SAE fittings, then made the hoses. That way, should I need a new hose in the future it will be MUCH cheaper ( Like $30.00 for a hose).
You guys using the 3.0 4Runners fuel system have it a bit easier since your fuel filters are located on the frame rail, instead of on the engine block like my 22-RE was. Then all you need is one custom hose from the pressure feed side to the engine, and generic bulk fuel hose from the return on the engine to the return pipe.
Since the thread size and pitch is the same on the stock Lexus fuel feed hose on the engine as it is on the 4Runner from the tank, you can get another 3.0 feed line (I have a spare if you need it) from the fuel feed to the engine and use those ends to have one made.

of all the 4runners I have parted out, the fuel lines are not items I kept. Stupid me.... It would be much easier to have another end and have it put onto some braided hose.
How much to get me the hose 97361
Thanks Dunkin

I'm driving my Subaru to Vegas on the 12th. I could just detour down I-5 and drop it off to you instead of going down the east route.
I think I paid $5 for it at the junk yard, so you can just have it...

Dunkin which fan did you end up using? Was it the 119? I have been looking at the 116 but the cfm is only 2215 and I don't know if that is enough air. What is the physical dimentions of the fan you have?
Thanks

Yeah, I used the 119. It has been great so far, but we are just now getting into temperatures over 65 degrees. (edit: it works great after my dumb ass rewired it as a puller)
By the way, I feel like an ass. I got into North Eastern Nevada and realized I totally forgot to grab that fuel line. Sorry man. I can still ship it to you if you like.

No worries man, I figured you just got busy. I actually got another rig I am parting put and got an extra line now. I am still thinking about having a custom braided lime made just so its pretty. I am going to order the 119 fan, let us know if you notice any fluctuations as the ambient air temp changes.
Over all you still happy with the swap? Mpg's on your travels? How was passing and hill climbs on the interstate? Have you towed anything yet?

Still loving the swap, and still averaging 22 mpg on the highway. I bet I can do better once I swap over to 4.30's or 4.10's.
Passing is a breeze, especially winding out third gear to damn near 90 mph. I don't have anything to tow... yet

I have gone over Steven Pass (Hwy 2) from Monroe to Lake Chelan both before and after the swap. With the 22RE and the auto, I was forced into 2nd gear to maintain 30-35 mph to climb the pass. After the swap, I was able to climb the pass at 70 mph in 5th gear with no issues at less than half throttle.

Why can't i have "disposable" income, and another trip to Cali.

Buying that is WAY cheaper than fixing my current trucks body and it has the grey interior.

At least Shasta is nice to look at this time of year.
I took this shot with my iPhone at 80mph a week an a half ago. The lake was calling my name too, but I was in a mood to get the hell home. Vegas wrecked my ass, lol.
