I do have a question about the clutch set up you have. I bought the 3.0 kit from Marlin. With it installed the petal won't push the clutch in far enough to disengage it. Did you put the 3.4 throw out in? You have any clutch engagement issues?

Check your pedal plate. Get under the dash look at your clutch pedal and around there on the plate I bet you find a crack. I just pulled mine and had it welded back up and its fixed. It was shifting bad, grinding into reverse etc. I nearly bought the marlin clutch when it wasjust this simple and common issue.

Search "pedal bracket fatigue". There is a sticky in the FAQ.

Dunkin, nice build dude. Of course you are keeping it. Its awesome.

How are you liking the 1UZ? What year did production end on it? How was fitting it under the hood?

Great build thread. I have a 93 SC400 Running car and a 1990 4 runner 3.0 5speed missing the engine. I would like to use the engine and trans from the SC400 does anyone know if I swap the transmission(A340) output shaft and tailhousing from 2wd to a 4wd from a A340 truck will the 5 speed transfercase work?

Hey dunkin,

How's that 255 fuel pump treating you? Notice much difference?

I started a website a while back selling parts for the 1uz swap. I am always looking for people who have done the swap to send me pics of there rig with a bio to add to the website. If you would like to be added I would love to add you to the page.

Northwesttoysllc.com

Let me know

Toyman

Woohoo bud!!! I am excited to see you start another build

Are you going to keep this one or turn it once its built? Get it finished and we can get a group of 1uz rigs together for a wheeling trip!!!

I'm pretty sure this one is a keeper. No bondo, no accidents, local history back to the original purchase.

Money is tight right now, hence it may be a slow project. However I have no problem skipping meals to get truck parts. Haha!

A 2016 UZ Run sounds awesome!!

I haven't gone back through to read. How did yours turn out? I remember some tough things happened in the family the last time I was around the boards.

That sounds like a really clean ride. Definitely a keeper!!!!

I did update my thread, so your welcome to stop by and say hi if you like. Things in the family did drastically change and were extremely hard, but I pulled thru and I parked the rig for a while so that I could keep it to completion. It runs like a dream. I have set it up for expedition travel so it has a small SAS on it, ARB roof top tent and awning, ARB fridge, hp elocker up front and Tacoma elocker rear. Over all I love this thing.

I did end up starting a company selling all the parts for the 1UZ swap after I did it and I figured out how to make it easier for others to do too.

I am down for a 2016 1UZ run. Did you sell your first rig? I know you talked about it but never heard it was sold.

Well, 300 miles into owning my first 3VZ-E and the fan bracket bearing craps the bed while I was on the freeway

Dunkin's 1990 4Runner 2DR Build-Up Thread-f49jxo1.jpg

Got it replaced the next day after a tow home.

I found out at that time that both cams were retarded one tooth, and that caused the ignition timing to be at 2°.

Reset everything properly and advanced the ignition timing to 14°. Wow, what a difference.

I also removed one throttle return spring and lubed the throttle cable. These things are like pushing a block of wood.

Yeah, that was me!!

I'm itching to get going, but limited by funds. Damn women... Story for another day.

Anyway, it's a 1990 LS400 engine with only 17k miles. Yeah, seventeen thousand.

I still need to source an ECU, P/S pump, non-TRAC throttle body, some other odds and ends, and of course all of the other parts from you.

The guy I bought it from was going to put it in his SC, then changed his mind. It's too bad he painted the distributor covers...

Dunkin/RMA,

I've read through both of your threads quickly, haven't taken the time to actually take notes though which I will soon. I have a 94 v6/5speed and a full running donor 1990 LS400, other than the obvious oil filter tree, bell housing adapter kit, flywheel/clutch combo, etc. Do you guys have any pointers for me. I am fully capable of doing anything and everything and do have a full fab shop at my disposal but would like to make this as simple as possible so I am ok with running parallel harnesses and whatnot since I have everything. Really looking at what I should watch out for as far as wiring and fab (especially in regards to the exhaust manis). This is by far not my first rodeo so please feel free to talk to me like I do know a little bit, and flame me for asking stupid questions. Thanks in advance, hope y'all are still around to respond.

Anton G.

Much appreciated toyman. At the moment I haven't done much except study the wiring diagrams for both cars (ECM and Chassis). The 4Runner is my beach/fishing/dog-transporting/do everything I don't want my 540i doing vehicle so it's going to remain untouched until the LS is gutted and I've had a chance to reseal and prep the engine, LS harness, trans adapter, etc. I'll be tearing into the Lex this weekend mainly to get everything ancillary off of it and out of my garage, ultimately the Lex will have to go before I start on the 4R because I only have one garage space designated for the work. Going to test the inputs/outputs on all of the leads that require splicing or removal so I can possibly remove the traction system all together or mimic whatever I need to make the LS ECU operate seamlessly with a manual behind it. I'll definitely have a read through your thread, and will start my own once I'm underway and have something to post. Thanks again, sorry for the threadjack Dunkin.
