ok the greaseable shackles and polyurathane bushings good pairing not easy on a rust plauged truck

got her up on jack stands which were inside some old rims for a few extra inches of height i didnt want to pull the wheels holding the axle on the jack i started working the drivers side being next to the exhaust the top nut fought me all the way off save the last thread breaker bar 1/5th a turn at a time even oiled an such it fought ugh squeak! squeak! pant pant

working area drivers side

bushings removed not cleaned yet what a pain in the tail getting the shackle out had to use C clamps an slide hammer to get um out

old versus new old 19mm to remove nuts new is 22mm to install really the only diference tween them an the new being greaseable

eaten away its worse around the other side

drivers side bushings outer side cracks splits

inner side the right pair are from the spring left from the body mount

cleaned up then primer an paint ran out of both at that point

info on how to, not looking forward to the front eyes likely have to burn them out the kit does come with new steel sleeves

front eye bushings an sleeves

pressing bushings in to frame mount

installed after the spring bolt decided to come out of the brace had to press it into the bushing and bracket at the same time ugh...

an more to come the passenger side!

an now folks the continuation of the project

the passenger side surprised me the nuts came off without a fight thought Heyyy maybe catch a break ...yeah stupid of me to think that

wouldnt slide out of the bushings god did i have to fight it

annnnnd thats why the bushings were frozen on due to corrosion i had to shove them through the body mount to get it off

comparing the old to new bushings

somewhat cleaned

using this brush inside the holes Juuust fits you can see where its polishing itself on the mounts

annnd it fought me being installed too at this point i thought i had it noooope it shoved the inner bushing out an i had to start all over taking the shackle out an reinstalling the bushing after trimming a small bit of damage to the bushing off

and with my dinner getting cold FINALLY i got it tourqed the nuts to 65 ft-lbs the book says to go 50 -75 so let um go a bit then ill retourqe them

the pile of tools needed for this an im not even done yet collapses

It is looking better with the new bushings. You are right, those can be a pain to get out. The bolts on your shackle are in better shape then some I have seen. I have seen them so corroded that they are half the size.

hey all well doc has had me off my feet with a cast up to the knee to help the foot heal an it is helping just a pain to drive with it on an not exactly legal...
got to work on the AC today though due to the compressor type the hose terry sent me it was wrong an not long enough by almost 6 inches
but we hope we got the original fixed with a shop in town installing hydrolic connections in the middle of the line good for 1K psi they should be able to hold a 130 max the adjustable idle up valve though works thank ya terry the VSV we found out failed we hooked up the two lines to each other an look at that the adjustment on the valve worked idling up the engine so the ac compressor ran while just idling with out the VSV working it idles down where the compressor stops working an so does the ac

got on ebay an bought a newer vsv from a t100 will wire that in when it arrives got it for 11 bucks

drover the runner round the mile an whoa the ac blew COLD felt awesome too first vehicle since i lost my 88 nissan that had AC in it havent done much anything else just trying to get the foot healed

Hope your foot heals this time. It has been an ongoing issue for you. Great to hear you got your ac working. I tried to call back. I will be up all night tonight if you want to give a holler.

the T100 VSV arrived today so heres how to quite easily adapt it since the original is near impossible to find an the t100 part was only 11 bucks

so here we have the failed VSV on the left an the replacement on the right i did test it via a 12v DC power brick it clicked nice an loud the original didnt top wire is live so + an the bottom connector is the switched negative an when the AC switch is turned off an on it turns this valve off an on as well

so removed the bracket as i still want to bolt the VSV to the valve cover i need the tab an some of the old bracket

so after a bit of grinding off the excess bits an bending it up i drilled the small hole for a very tiny screw that i found one that fit after being trimmed down to less than 3/8 of an inch

heres the T100 VSV now attached to the tab from the old one

an here it is on the engine now i got it with a pigtail of the T100 harness an id recommend it in my case i put a couple male spade terminals on it so they plug into the factory harness plug i could have cut the original harness an put the new in but ehh i taped it all up nice an neat after this so it can be water proof an wont flap around

this is the idle adjustment valve if its working when the VSV is activated it allows more air into the engine bypassing the throttle plate causing a controlled increase in engine rpms which keeps the AC compressor on as it will cycle off at normal idle rpms but not around 1K rpms the white adjuster is how you adjust the AC idle and also works with the power steering if its loading the engine down

Just amazing!

Dragon, I read this thread over the weekend while taking breaks working on my '95. You're an absolute inspiration! You really saved that runner from the scrap heap. It's not a flashy off the wall SAS mega trail build, but the quality and attention to detail is just top notch! I really look forward to watching it progress from this point forward.

so havent done a lot to the runner just driving a bit foot in a cast the wound is healing slowly an ill take any of that
i did have to goto a local pickapart looking for a seat hinge for a 92 dodge ram 350 but they didnt have it BUT they did have an 88 3.0 sr5 with AUTO hubs (never seen that before) sunroof an such no rear heat though
she was in sorry shape already torn apart but little no body damage i was seriously looking at her rear body metal but id have to hual a generator an sawsall out there to get it ugh not with my foot

i did get off her the rear mud guard that goes along the rear of the body for 3 bucks all but one clip in perfect shape so the trip wasnt a total loss but god my leg an foot ache now trudging up n down rows over heavy gravel (fist sized chunks) in a cast

When I got your text I was not sure if you were up or not. I wonder if you could rent a tool from a tool rent place that would be possible to get the quarter panels off. Not sure if I have seen auto hubs on a first gen before. They are great when they work right or if you have them locked before you get stuck.

Great to hear your foot is starting to heal. You think it is going to heal completely this time? Before your and my experience I really never heard about injuries not healing. My tooth has never healed and doc just said to live with it.

I have never worked on auto hubs and have only seen a few of them. As I understand they are vacuum operated. Guess they work great if there is not any leaks from what I have read. I know of a truck I wish that I could of gotten the interior out of but by the time I found it the interior was ruined. That can be some hard stuff to find in cloth.

You have not experienced life until trying to drive with no brakes, lol, I know what that is like, not a good thing when they go unexpectedly. On my 85, the master cylinder would work but under heavy pressure they would fail. My bet would be the master cylinder is half way working.

Really pay attention if you go and swap rear slave cylinders. The parts stores can give you the wrong ones and you will have a similar experience that you just had. They will work and then the piston can pop out and then not brakes again and this time you will lose fluid.

The 84-88 trucks on the rear slaves use different sized cylinders. They will bolt up and the metal lines will connect like it should but if you get the wrong slave cylinder, the piston can pop out. I am betting your master cylinder is failing and causing the issue.

If all goes as planned, I am going to try and tear my old transmission down and see what is causing the ball bearing in the blender noise. It would be nice if it is something that could be simple to fix but am not holding my breath on that.

so just an update foot is healing truck isnt couple weeks ago it blew the main weld on the exhaust collector part of the pipe went from quiet purr to full open pipe engine stumbled a bit roaring to high hell WOW that 4 cyl is LOUD had a sheriff spin round as he passed me as it happened an followed for a bit but he didnt pull me over yay

got appointment with exhaust shop to weld it back up tomorrow seen a HUGE decrease in MPG due to the o2 sensor not getting its proper airflow i did get it back up on the collector an a pipe clamp up there to hold it via a bracket on the trans which clearly was meant for a clamp but never got one sigh..one of the costs of getting a truck someone else took apart you dont know where things go or might need to go
might have a minor leak in the cooling system but dont see anything just a tiny bit of smell so who knows nothing else to report shes been reliable an dependable any temp any weather couldnt ask for more

will likely finally get onto the rear fenders this summer repair them in fiberglass
