The third picture down, under that clear/black cover is where the contacts are. I updated my 88 thread link to show the .22 shell as well. If your Combo Switch doesnt show any burnt wires, I would say it is just the contacts needing cleaned. Do Not try and bang on the shaft to get the steering wheel off. It will bulge easily. I seen a friend of mine trying to avoid renting the tool to take it off and you wont be able to get the nut back on that holds the steering wheel. Parts stores rent the tool for free.
Pull the steering wheel and there are 4 screws that hold the assembly on to the column, and then the combo switch comes off and you have 2? screws that hold the cover on. A finger nail file or fine sandpaper will clean them up nicely. It only takes 3 or 4 light brushes to get the contacts clean and working again. I have fixed several of the switches and never have had to replace one.
I did try using my 86 on to the 88 and something didnt quite work right. Cant recall what it was. If you do replace the combo switch, if I recall right, there is a part number down at the end of the wire harness where it connect to the rest of the column and you need to match it up as there are several different switches out there and they will work, but some functions dont work correctly.
I went to work on my Light Switch and Wiper delay. I plugged my old one in and the wiper delay worked. But not bright lights. I then tried to combine the 2 and was going to have cut wire and splice and didnt want to go that route.

The Light Assembly I had before was from an 86 and it has another plug my 88 didnt have. I figured it was for some option mine didnt have so didnt think much about it. The white plug is what I am talking about on an 86 in this picture.

Today I got to looking at it (the white plug) and it runs to the wiper handle and I am guessing it is to the delay in the handle. So I then decided to see what I could do about my original Light assembly.
I took the Steering Wheel off. I have had mine off before and have it snug but not so tight I need a Steering Wheel Puller. If you havent had it off, dont bang on it as it will bulge the Steering shaft. Go rent a puller from the parts store. It is free.
You will need to drop the lower plastic panel and I diconnect the dimmer switch and just let it lay on the floor. Remove the Steering Wheel and the covers to the steering column.
There are 4 screws that hold the Light Switch Assembly on. They are recessed. Then disconnect the black clip that keeps all of the wire bundeled to the column and 2 screws that hold the blue connectors to the black tabs /clip.

Once I had it off, I had to take 2 screw out that hold the hazard light switch to the assembly, and set it out of the way. I then had to remove the clear plastic cover so as I could use my wife finger nail file (yeah.. she liked that idea) and went over the little copper tips on the copper layers. Just a couple of times to help make a good clean contact. Then I hit with some WD-40.

Here is a good picture of the contacts that need cleaned and more info if someone needs it.

Put it back togther and everything works great. The 86 and 88 Light assemblys do have different part numbers on them and they interchanged and it got me thru. But it is nice having everything working as it should.
I did take my passenger kick panel off and didnt see a relay box there. Not saying it isnt, I just didnt want to pull the ECM and since I was able to test with a good wiper delay switch, I didnt need to go that far into it.
Found another link to a headlight problem I just wanted to add.

Here is how I fix my horn issue.
Got the horn to working. I used a .22 shell to make the contact to the steering wheel. I found this on Yotatech and like it better then how I used to fix my horns. I have it listed on my 88 4Runners build thread for more details about getting the horn to work on the first page. Will add this info at a later time.

Combo switch is around $40 at the boneyard here if you can find one. I just cleaned the contacts with some 1500 grit sand paper. Have it listed on the 88 runner build thread as well.

I'm totally confused... Did someone ship you that speaker with duck tape on it? Or should I say mailing tape? I can't tell... I'll take your word for it.
Way more importantly I would like to mention that all my best is going with you to your appointment man! I'm sorry you gotta go through this but I hope it comes to some type of progress when it comes to your quality of life!!!

well heres the list
got a 5inch long 3 inch wide swath of my right thigh worth of surgical road rash the wound vac is on the foot and the thigh hurts like road rash from when ive wrecked my bike as a kid. its also under a plastic wound seal so blood kinda floats around in there...kinda a cool bubble effect lol
the person who put the wound vac on dont know diddly on how to do it we fixed it here at home so it wont hurt the new graft or the foot and also fixed the leaks an clogs... like i said we sometimes know more than the professionals
my 6x9 speakers came in haven't opened the box yet too look at um the 4in came with grills, wire, screw an panel clips i hope the 6x9 do as well need the grills to protect them in the back
my martin crawler trans bits are to be delivered today an i get to chew at the bit an wait to go put um in LOL
and my luck of getting body metal again falls through, a partout in Louisiana fell through the dad backed his tractor over the pile of body parts... so no used passenger fender for dragon...
still no luck on the rear body metal lookin at yota fiberglass but the god high price for 1 panel is painful an i need both sides in the rear

I remember when I put my Marlin Crawler ones in. Huge difference. Just make sure the one that goes on the shifter is on really good or else it'll get stuck inside your tranny like mine was lol. I had one heck of a time trying to take it back out hahaha
