well i do know longer shackles will thump/bang when bounced hard as they will extend more the tradeoff for more flex saw someone run a double shackle (think like a bike chain link) got LOTS of flex they put a clamp or something on it so normal driving wouldnt bang the riders to death shackle length is a fine line tween ride quality an flex

heres a page on them shackle length/use

also dont forget your brake proportioning valve linkage on the rear axle has to be taken into account with more droop or taller springs

Hey William, thanx as always bubba!

EVERYONE;

I first wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped out with the parts sales.... I paid off nearly 50% of it with that in combo with other stuff I had going on,..... and my sisters hubby paid off the rest! SO MOM IS FREE AND CLEAR.... at least on that, ahahaha... Her income is another story! Haha. THANX AGAIN, GUYS! I will atill be trying to get to the yards, as that, on the side, will help momzilla be abl r to have a lil extra to survive on. Her SS payments are tinyyyyy! And they still havent adusted to give her my stepfathers ammount instead (which isnt much more, but its mor we, which she needs, trust me!) Unreal, 3 MONTHS later they still havent fixed the SOCIAL SECURITY STUFF FOR HER! But hey, at least she has us, her kids,...... soooooo many don't! >.< STUPID.GOV ..... I'll leave it at that, hehe.

Glad to hear your feeling better, even if still not 100%

Also good to hear on the springs! Not sure if you've seen this review before, but it could help as far as shock advice: http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/r...kit-23075.html

You're going to be heavier than his rig, given yours is a Runner and I'm sure you carry plenty of emergency gear, but it still worth noting that he didn't have that much droop, seemed to be limited by the rear shocks and not much weight to compress the other side.

Can't wait to see it done, and I really should get down there to meet up and wheel with you before we get really into season up here.

V6 Brake Master and Dual DiaphragmBooster Upgrade?........... CHECK!

Remove booster vacuum, cruise control hose and cable, crack master cyl fluid feed lines, master cyl wiring connector, loosen most of way the master cyl mounting bolts, then free the brake lines from master and pull away multi-line bracket and work the master out. (I have lil plugs that stop the lines from draining)......

Then go into the cab and remove the retaining spring and coder pin from push rod rivet pin, remove 4 nuts using a 12mm deep socjet on a 3/8" drive socket wrench, then back to the engine bay to remove single diaphragm booster.

I believe I had read that I should use the shim, even using the dual diaphragm booster, and the both of them sidw by side on the ground appeared to be identical in length, 'back of booster to end of push rod', so I swapped it over. >>>

Sliding the dual diaphragm booster in between those brake lines proved to be a SCARY - bear of a finagling maneuver o.O , hahaha... but I got it! Also, I recommend you measure out all the distances for the existing lines to the new 1" bore master, etc, whether u use the dual diaphragm booster or not (but especially if u do! Because it requires some very clever finagling and bending of the brake lines to get them to line up)... The front line, which used to go like this(top front with and agressive bend, the hose that fed it).......

Wound up rebent and stretched to this front position(the 1" bore 2nd gen 4Runner master cylinder both mount horizontally, in tandem [SCARY! HAHA] )....

The back line for the 4cyls is already horizontal, so much easier than upgrading/bending for a 1st gen 3.0 .... 4cyl back line....

(cake same colored wiring even).... and then finish bleeding it....... and that was that.

GUYS! NO CRAP! >>>> JUST THE MASTER AND BOOSTER are night and day in sensitivity and response.... Richard/Redeth felt how it brakes now... he'll tell ya.... its like sports car brakes... IMMEDIATE response to light touch...far less effort. I imagine some of the touchiness will soften just slightly with the bigger, more demanding calipers... and thats ok.

NIGHT AND DAY!

Next on the brake works project I'll be putting my 11.45" Hart - Black Series drilled and slotted rotors, restored OEM V6 95 calipers up front and newly today replaced/warrantied Advics wheel cyls on the rear! GREAT BRAKES FTW!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Buddy Richard/Redeth came by with the lovely and talented and VERY helpful lady, Fabby. He fixed his rear, slow/nearly dead rear window motor with a camry door window motor, and then I helped with his brakes after I finished up mine. Very productive day!

His was a bit more PITA, but we knew it would be. ... >>>

Hey Mark,

I'm so glad to hear that your mother is out of the woods on the expenses.

I've been wanting to do the brake booster upgrade too. You made it look easy, I'll have to move that up my list of priorities.

I'm REAL excited to see that you ordered the leaf springs. I'll be following your experiences with that very closely.

Hey William

Well, first, I wouldn't do the dual diaphragm booster without the 1" master cylinder that comes with it. My master, booster and V6 calipers were all 46$ at PYP 50% OFF SALE WEEKEND! Woot! Haha. The girl there, Lupe, is always nice on price with me, and didnt charge me for truck calipers, so instead of around 70 $ total, she worked all 3 items down to 46 $, out the door. The master is around 80 $ new on amazon for Aisin like mine.. but I could twll the one I grabbed had just been bought within weeks. I would grab that new, if this one hadnt been. I've seen em as low as 65 $ new... But gotta be careful it's not an aisin remanned in china or mexico. And Rock Auto Sells Advics.

Thanx, man! I hated to see her so worried!

Ahhhh, gitcha. ;-)

I went to my grandson's Spider Man birthday party today,.... boy is that kid a little dynamo! Hahahahaha.

I came back home, popped the hood, and to my delight, not leaking a single drop of brake fluid! Woohoo! So I drove around a little bit, and yeah, the brakes are very sensitive to the touch on the pedal, but I'm sure I can get use to it in a short amount of time. And, as I said, I'm sure the V6 calipers, which demand a bit more pressure and fluid disbursement, I'm sure, it will be just perfect. I'm not saying I'm unhappy, just have to get use to it. I'm hoping to finish the full brake upgrade by tomorrow.

I can already tell you, even though it's a little more sensitive( okay, quite a bit hahahaha)... Even so, it comes to a stop so quickly, I'm actually really shocked! So I know that it's not only more sensitive, it's definitely more effective is well. I'm really excited to get this done and move on to the next thing. I will take pictures of a much as possible, and notes of the rest. Maybe even a video, who knows? Armor is great, gears are even better in some ways, and a locker is just fantastic,.... But stop on a dime brakes? holy moly! He he he . Let's face it, without good brakes, you could have a lot bigger problems than just bumping into a tree or rock, know what I mean? All in all, I highly recommend this modification to anyone considering it, especially if you carry around a bit more weight. These little trucks are pretty heavy, and while my brakes are very effective, I can honestly say they are much more effective now. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a brand new or nearly brand new master cylinder, in comparison to the 26 year old 1 I had on there, right? Lol

great looking family mark...

those other ribbons suit her way more than the white one did imo... and those blue eyes are killer... she's gonna break a lot of hearts that one I predict...

you've got to be so careful around chemicals... there are a few that never used to bother me but now give me a headache at the first sniff... whatever you use make sure you are well ventilated and wear a mask if possible what ever you use... this even applies to common household cleaners...

Thanx, Paul! I love the buggers, one and all! Hahaha....

Yeah, as I get older, I should be taking more precautions, and everyone should, anyhow, very true!

I'm so excited to get started on the finishing up of the brake swap that I'm like a kid at Christmas eve! Haha...... I know, it's not an SAS or engine swap, but it will hopefully help me out and it might even help someone else. Very stoked that the master cylinder is not leaking and is in fact in the condition that I thought it was. Yeah, I really do wish I could have got a brand new reservoir, but hey, can't always be choosy right? Considering I didn't have to spend a fortune on all this, and actually did it for a steal, I'm pretty stoked.

I have some of the other things to get done, I'm highly doubtful I will finish most of them before this trip. 1. The cargo area mods. 2. The heater control valve and heater hose job. 3. The rear window add a switch and possibly motor swap. 4. The Old Man Emu leaf pack swap with greasable shackles. 5. I still have to swap in the new drilled and slotted v6 rotors and new ADVICS rear wheel cylinders. I'm hoping I can do this in 1 day, and I don't see why not, but as my life's story has been, there's always something that comes up :-( haha. 6. The infamous and taking way too long to get done roof rack Hahahahaha..... . 7. Lopro bump stops for uptravel only...

The cargo mods alone are quite detail specific and take considerable time, yet I would like them to be done before I do any more romping. I need to refresh myself on a couple things including how to wire in the second rear window switch, how to make the deck lamp always hot, which I think I have printed out, how to best go about mounting the side rails and roof rack , and a few more things.... I think I can get quite a bit of it done, I just hope for no major interruptions.

I'm feeling quite a bit better this evening, but man was today difficult. I felt like crap through that entire party. But hey, I showed up right?

The family is looking good. Glad to see you are getting to spend some time with them. Talking to you yesterday sounds like the chemicals did a number on you. Hope things are getting better.

Your brake upgrade is looking great and sounds like it was a big improvement.

Here is how you can bypass the safetys on your tailgate that you were asking about. Orientate your plug like it is shown in the picture and run a wire from the plug to a good ground. For what you are wanting to do it will work for a temporary fix. I did mine permanent. I knew the motors in the back of some cars would interchange just wasnt sure which one it was. Mine actually work great. While you are back there, put some silicon spray on your window tracks and that will make it alot easier on your motor as well.

Hey Mark...just an FYI.

So I started my rotor/pad project yesterday. Planned on repacking the bearings. For one thing it's a messy job. First off I find that whichever mechanic I had replace the rotors once before used a chisel to take those 54MM nuts off....but I said "OK" I can live with those marred up bolts. Then I find one of my bearing races has a pretty large and deep pitted area. I did not plan on replacing bearings/races, so the project comes to complete STOP.

Just imagine if I were at your place, I'd have to put everything back together to drive home and then do it all over again whenl the parts come in. There was no way I was going to pay dealer price for bearings/races. Because at that point I told myself I'm changing all 4. I don't remember exact prices but they wanted over $50 for the inner and over $30 for the outer. Whereas, I just ordered all 4 OEM Koyo from car parts discount for around $80 including tax/shipping.

So....you might want to think of having new bearings on hand if you don't already.

By the way, do you have any idea what the characters on top of this 82' supra hood badge mean? Apparently it's worth some $$, one sold for $65 on ebay recently. It would be a cool return for something I threw in my tool bag from the yard!
