Maybe he needs the wide body kit to have room for all that flex! hahaha No idea what rear end that is but it's BEEF!
CHI-town as in CHICAGO! yup 75$ on a half off day at the yard....
Hell yeah it will lol I'm pretty sure I will be the only one ine a 10 mile radius with 33" mud terrains living in the city HA!
With big plans like this there is always issues that come up. Still don't have an exact moving date but it is still happening for sure. Really the only thing I'm waiting on is getting this Transmission in.
HAHAHAHAA yeah 22RE is def. the shiznit...hopefully I can keep it in Chicago!!! I hear ya on WabFab Ted. I didn't exactly get my stuff within the "3-5 bus. day" period.
Sorry for the super late reply man but I gots no web access at the house...U ever find any info.? Here is a link to the thread I was talking about.

XL4RNR.... Dig it! Almost as good as this guy I know that went with "22RE"
Chi-town...AKA...windy city...AKA...CHICAGO...that's the place right??? IIRC? Any how, dude that 4RNR does look like it has some wicked fab going on. I bet it's a stock engine....just geared really low...
A comment if I may and I hope not to thread jack; WABFAB (and this isn't a total bash); I did place 2 different orders and it wasn't until I emailed him and kept bugging him that my orders were finally drop shipped from an outside vendor. Granted, during the Thanksgiving week. Either way, during our busiest season (Thanksgiving- New Years) I purposely work a lot more hours to insure the person who the product is for has something to open up on Christmas morning, even those insanely late requests for people who are willing to pay for 2-day shipping to Florida...crazy expensive...though, how do you wrap a set of Double Cab Long Bed weld on sliders? Any how, family or not business is business and WEEK's later not to have an open line of communication with a tangible response, doesn't work for me. Maybe I just get uber excited about something new for the 4Runner and gotta have it now. So with that said, I am glad things that you've ordered from him have come in a timely manner but those who've had issues were allowed to chime in...and I did. Now, I'm off my
Sorry for the TJ...please for give me. Maybe, if you and I put our heads together we can come up with a solution on fabbing up some PU mounts for the engine?? Buy a block of the PU and cut and drill then weld up some plates to make it work? I've never researched em' but maybe throw a link to what they look like and I'll let you know if it's doable? AHH heck, I'll check real quick and see what I can find.
Again, sorry for the TJ.

Hey man, good news on the trans, and the Subie. I know your buddy is a Subie nut, so you may already know about this mod, but it was a lifesaver for me. With warmer weather here, started using the ac and the knock sensor was giving me check engine lights more and more often, my car was running like crap. Almost dying if I floored it, even in neutral, trans wasn't downshifting hardly ever when throttle was applied, rough idle, would start and die occasionally...with all functions affected at once I figured it was electrical, so I researched and came up with this
http://www.rs25.com/forums/f72/t1331...kits-work.html
After $20 or so in 6 ga stranded and ring terminals, some work, and a new knock sensor, runs like new with 223k miles on it.
Anyway, can't wait to see some Illinois wheeling after you got your trans swapped!

Also, what rims are you running (the black rims, are they ProComps), and what are the dimensions? Thanks!

Thanks for checkin it out boomer! Not gonna lie man I really dnt know much about my wheels...they where a craigs list find that was sapose to be some what temporary and after a while i just decided i really like em. Dont know who makes them but im pretty sure they are 15x10 if not 10.5..... plenty of companies make similar wheels though and they are ussually pretty cheap to.

I just read all 24 pages of your build and I must say you do impressive work!!! I really like the camping pictures and trail rides. Arizona is beautiful, take lots of pictures because there is nothing like that around Chicago. I live 2 hours from Chi town, and the most exciting thing we have around here is corn and cows... lol. Great build. Keep up the good work! Good luck with tranny swap and eventual move.

Nice job man looks good. I found another thread and took this guys idea and put it into mine along with an after market stereo

G58 - w56 swap
Thats right guys....G58...that's what trans. I've been using this whole time...thinking of coarse that it was a w56E. Turns out mine was un-lucky enough to have the cok-eyed G58. It was quite a surprise when we sat them next to each other. With the Chicago move right around the corner I had no time for something like this...so after some research decided to just go on with the swap. Which actually works in my favor because as I understand it the G58 is considered a light duty 4x4 transmission where as the w series is considered heavy duty.
Things to take into consideration....G58= Forward shift where as w56B (which is what I used in the swap) = Top shift. This means shifter location will change by about 5 inches. Also shift lever on the trans. is different on both units. The w56 is considerably skinnier then the g58 which is deff. a good thing. While this does make room for all kinds of things like installing a starter....it also means the trans. mount will be different. (I went with bomb proof w56 trans. mount)
So with that said...step one remove g58. Starter...crossmember...wiring harness...drive shafts...shifters...bell housing.

This is the hole left behind which in order to fit the top shift will have to be enlarged.

While the trans. was out It was a good time to replace the clutch. I went with an Exedy clutch kit. Luckily there is no clutch difference between G series and w series transmissions.

When throwing in the new trans. don't forget to pull out the alignment tool as we did.lol We found that before we even got it close to in luckily.

Transmission jacks help a ton. Luckily there is a local (some what local) guy that rents out tools.

Fabrication time...First I took the old umm...shifter boot frame and clamped it to the w56 one and drilled the same hole so I could use the same mounting points. plus the addition of one new one.

Here you can see the new boot frame on and also see where I need to cut out some of the floor to reveal the FUN shifter

Here she is all cut out. Making sure I have enough clearance before moving on.

I cut out a piece of the old rubber that was under the boots and used it to cover the un-used old section of the floor cut out.

Drilled the bottom holes for the new boot frame and installed.

The next part took so much thinking that I forgot to take pics.lol But basiclly if your looking at the leather piece that goes around the shifter there is an extra change holder. I had to cut this section out and mover the leather part back more towards the center counsel. Obviously this makes about a 1" space in the front the shifters which I filled with a little "change tray" I guess you can call it. I made the tray using my old single din compartment. Cut it in half measured a million times and stuck it in. For not really expecting this much fab. work I think it came out pretty nice.

not perfect as you can see...

This is the end result interior wise...

My shifters are noticeably shorter...which I don't mind.
Here she is....Working good so far. After a really good flush I filled it with some redline.
Got my bomb proof mount on there which I must say feels GREAT. I love how stiff it makes things. I will def. be doing bomb proof motor mounts. As mentioned before I don't daily this anymore so it makes sense to not be bothered by the vibrations. Also if I haven't already mentioned it I also got trail gear drain plugs on trans. and transfer.

W56 shifts so much nicer. It leaves little room for mistakes if that makes sense....it's precise compared to the sloppy feeling g series. In all I am happy...more than happy. I did rush this post so I hope I mentioned everything. Next week the truck is to be delivered to CHICAGO!

Thanks bone. It was indeed a lot of work but i would do it again without hesitation. W56 drives so nice. Feels like i have a short shifter! Did about an hr drive in it yesterday. No leaks so all is well. This sat. Is the last time I will ever see this truck in PHX. Im a little scared for it to be traveling without me

Canada is so close to Chicago. You should do some trips North while you have the chance. Lots of wheeling in Quebec, good food and the French makes it feel European. Its a bit of a drive but get up there. You won't regret it.
Oh and every February is the Carnival du Québec. Loads of fun and drinking friendly.
Nice work as usual. Make sure you get her winter ready. Get a block heater, seriously. Drain your diffs to get water out so it doesn't damage stuff. Battery blanket too. If you've not lived real winters which Chicago does get you'll be surprised at what it does to a vehicle.
Oh and undercoat your rig. The salt will destroy her quick.

I can't believe I sold that old transmission....

Did not think somone would want that thing but sure enough a Mexican dude came all the way from the south side to take it. He was in a pretty clean pickup to. It was a white extra cab pickup that was origanally a 3.slow....he swapped in a 22re! Clean work to...all new suspension exhaust...rebuilt motor 31" bfg all terrains ...shoulda snapped a pic....
here is the last pic of the 4runner....all packed and currently on its way to Chicago. Praying to God it arrives in one piece...
