The factory compressor for the 3RZ is actually a Denso. I am leaning more and more towards a york or sanden though as I do more and more research into this. Give me a call later so we can chat about this!
I understood your post. What I meant was that if you go with a York setup you could have a much better compressor with less investment.
The Denso compressor is the same design as a sanden.

My onboard air using the stock compressor on my '87 22RE 4Runner makes plenty air to run tools.
At 1500-1600 engine RPM it makes as much, or a little more, air than my 5 horsepower Speedaire.
I would estimate 5-6cfm @90PSI.

You can see some pics and info about my setup on this page:

Well after talking to you on the phone I think you are right and York is the way to go. Now to find a suitable donor! I just put a feeler out to Brendan about helping with the bracket part of things. Going to call around to some local yards and try and find a 210 york. Is the 210 the one that you are going to be using too Nate?

I believe he did yes. helipilot opened my eyes to being able to get a lot more for less money by going the York route however.

It's also nice to have an air storage system as well...

It definitely is BBP. I will be having a reservoir no matter what compressor I end up with. It is pretty much a requirement due to my goals (be able to run air tools as well as air up).

So I'm putting together my parts list for my OBA. I was going to go check out a lead on a york at the local yard but I woke up sick as a dog today.

I'm fairly sure that my girl is going to be getting me a CB radio for my birthday. Any recommendations on which unit to go with and or best mounting location?

Hmmmm...really depends on where you want to put it...giggity.

Cobras are great but are BIG. I like the midland I have but its shot. Honestly, the best location is under the radio. Depends on if you have the OEM double din deck.

I'm in the market for a new cb too.....so let me know

I look forward to seeing your OBA project unfold, I'll be taking notes, lol, something I always thought would be cool to have, but have never really done my homework on!

a CB is on my list too. I was checking out the Uniden BearCat series, it had some good features and reviews, plus has 7 color display, I thought I'd be able to match my gauges pretty easy ( I have 7 color display on my GlowShift gauges also). I always thought an overhead center console would be cool to mount a CB in, just haven't figured out if I want to build one from scratch or try swapping in one from another vehicle....and how to go about mounting one without destroying my headliner!

I decided on the Uniden Pro 520XL found
here. here.

It is an extremely affordable unit and also a very popular choice for our rigs because it can fit where the stock ash tray goes or in the second DIN slot right below the radio. I went with the 520 instead of the 510 because it also has PA ability!

You might just get to follow along with my OBA project in a very cool way. I've got the new Go Pro in my sights as a Christmas present to myself. Should be awesome for trail coverage as well as build documentation.

I would advise against putting anything above your head as it is very easy to split your skull open while wheeling on anything in that region. I came across that very topic while researching my CB options. It is an unfortunate side effect of our very small cabs.

On a completely separate note I am planning a snow wheeling trip to Naches this winter are you down Ed?!?!

Yeah, probably not a good idea having an overhead console, it would probably be a PITA to run all the wiring overhead for a CB, not to mention my headlner is any pretty good shape, lol. My 4Runner is already missing the ashtray, thats enough incentive to get me to try to mount one there.

That would be awesome to do some snow wheeling in Naches! I have a few projects to knock out before my rig is ready to see some trails, mainly a rear sump oil pan, and I need to get my new aluminum radiator installed. Keep me posted tho when you guys have a date set!

Off the subject, but I been meaning to ask how you like your new headlights so far?

The headlights are the cat's meow man I'll tell you what. They are a very crisp white light and project very far. The install was easy as could be too.

Sweet man I would love to see pictures of how you mounted up the 510 if you have them?

My initial plan was to use a stock 3RZ AC compressor however seeing as I don't have AC it would mean me having to purchase one. My thought process is if I'm to purchase an AC compressor it might as well be a York where I will get more CFM and not have to worry about adding an oiler.
