Were you able to only trim the fender or did you have to trim the tub too?

 

Well i already had a big rust hole through the inner fender, so i trimmed it all back. I did this back when i stretched the rear, you can see my cut mark back here:

Hmmm can't tell much from the pics. Oh well I'll cross the bridge when I come to it I suppose.

 

I definitely had to cut and re-tac the inner fender to the quarter panel if thats what your asking, but its all still there

Locker actuator wasn't working right so i took it off and cleaned it up. I really need to get a smartphone cuz pictures of this thing woulda been epic... the motor was completely full of mud. not sure where water is getting in, but i cleaned it all up and used lots of RTV. works great now. i'm ready for Spring Creek Tomorrow....

its getting hot and no a/c is killing me in the runner. here's my question, my '85 pickup has wing windows and a functioning a/c, while my 4runner has neither. i'd love to get the ac going in the 4runner but in the mean time, how hard would it be to swap the wing windows over? i read a few posts where people said its possible, but was hoping to see a write up or at least some pictures of the process. thanks

 

Swapping the wing windows over would be a big pain, you would have to completely gut the insides out of both doors and swap them over, you need window tracks, regulator, glass and weatherstripping. Swapping doors for a few months would be the way I would go.

I am going to go off of the quote below to answer this.

I did exactly this^ I just got a different set of doors and swapped them on to my runner. Mine was not equipped with AC from the factory. However it did have power windows. It would get brutally hot inside while driving in the summer months.

Since I have switched over to the wing window doors, there has been vast improvement. Still hot but not like the surface of the sun.

I will say, there are a few drawbacks for me. I have long arms and the window is now more crammed because of the space the wing window takes up. Might not be a big deal for some. My other Grip is that the wing window doors move the mirror closer to the center of the door. Therefore it feels as though its in my way when the window is down and I have my arm partially out.

Just a few thoughts for you. I am still glad that I made this switch and would not revert back for any reason. Well maybe if I retro fitted AC into my runner. I have really thought about that, but I don not know if I want to take on that type of project.



Oh yeah, Great pics by the way. Wish I could drive out and go wheeling with you guys.

 

^ thanks for the feedback man! ya i think for this upcoming trip i'm just gonna switch doors between my two trucks. unfortunately, one is gray and one is red so its gonna be an eyesore but my comfort is more important than beauty for the time being. I might attempt to actually trade the windows over at some point if i have some time on my hands

 

My current project is insulating/sound proofing the floor. I've been pouring over forums about this and it seems to be the common consensus that dynamat is better than the cheaper budget solutions for sound proofing. however, it doesn't have an "r" value for insulating. My priority at this point is to keep the heat out of the cab since i don't have ac, and priority 2 is to make it quieter. This, as well as my budget, led me to settle on using Frost king duct insulation. has a closed-cell foam insulation and an aluminum foil top coat, which means it won't degrade or mold if water happens to get into the cab (i take the roof off occasionally). I also read plenty of accounts that said it greatly reduced road noise. So yesterday i went to HD and bought 3 rolls of this:

Took me about an hour to clean up the cab and then another hour to apply the stuff. it actually sticks pretty well if you take the time to clean the floorboards well (i use 50/50 water and isopropyl alcohol). then i installed my new carpet that i bought a while back from www.Auto-Interior.com. I must admit i was greatly disappointed when i finally opened the box to look at the carpet. it was molded well, but there were no holes for the shifter or the seat bolts pre-cut in it. After reviewing their website, it says you have to cut the holes yourself so admittedly this is my fault for not doing the research. I can't believe i paid that much money for carpet and still had to spend several hours cutting all the holes and trimming it to fit. Would have been much better off going to HD and spending a fraction of the cost. lesson learned i guess. it will be nice when its done. Got most of the front area done last night, still need to trim up the edges. i'll try to get some pictures tonight

New carpet looks great! Thats something I need to do someday too. The grey doors don't look bad at all on there, I like having the wing windows on mine, must have for non AC rig!...
I'm surprised you haven't built a set of tube doors for your rig, as much as you wheel it, that would let some air flow thru, lol.

Update, i got a deal on some new-to-me shoes. Nitto trailgrappler MT's. have a fair amount more tread than my MTR's and they ride soooo much more smooth, i couldn't ever get the MTr's to balance quite right. Took the opportunity to go back to black wheels, i never could get used to the "bling" the other ones had. these are cheapies from discount, level 8 tracker 17x8.5 with 4.5" B.S. pushed the tires out another 3/4" or so on each side, i like the more aggressive look!







Tried them out in some mud during hunting season, these tires did awesome! i'm very happy with them

 

Nice tires. Your truck is easily one of my favorites, probably because it looks like an older brother to mine.

Hey I just noticed those lights you recessed in the front bumper, is there a post on those? That's slick.

 

thanks cory, nice catch on the lights- no i did't do a write up on them, i got them from a buddy and installed them a couple months ago. they're neat but don't really ad a whole lot over just the headlights. If your going for noticeably more light i'd recommend going with a full lightbar- they're just to "bro" for my liking haha

 

I like the new shoes, and the black wheels look sick, I thought the other ones looked good too, but I always liked the black'd out look, it looks so tough on 37's!!!

 

I hear you on the lightbar. I always wanted to recess some lights in my rear bumper to help with backing up, but never did. That carpet looks great too.
