Gizler00's 85 4Runner Build Thread

Mark- nice work on the winch plate! Can't wait to see yours finished!
SqWadoosh- sorry to hear about your 4runner getting stolen, I'm glad to hear it was recovered so quickly and with minor damage, hopefully just a front end alignment issue!
I hate thieves! When I was still living in Yakima, Wa my 83' Toyota was stolen out of my front yard. I heard it start up about 1:00am and jumped out of bed and ran out there. My first instinct was to jump in the wife's car with my cell phone and follow them and get the cops on the phone, but the wife quickly shot down that idea, lol. I ended up getting a anoniumus phone call a week later. They gave me the address of where my truck was and wanted to know if there was a reward offered. I was thinking, yeah I'm going to pay you a reward when your probably the one who stole it! I got it back, minus the tool box full of tools, no damage to the truck, not even the ignition switch, which brings me to this point: Every older Toyota I have ever owned I could start with any Toyota key! And most of the time the door locks will unlock too. My dad had a 83', my brother has a 85' and my 86' and all of our keys will work on all 3 rigs, just something I thought was worth mentioning! When i started building my 4 runner, after getting it running, the first thing i did was add a kill switch, although since moving out of Yakima "grand theft auto center of Wa" I haven't had to use it anymore!

Hide ya keys! Hide ya wife!
Haha, glad I'm in Lincoln. I feel pretty safe here. Doesn't stop me from keeping a loaded handgun at my bedside tho. Still, Mark after u do ur killswitch I'll leach off your experience and outfit mine with one. Better safe than sorry!

wow those are some crazy stories... it seems that the NW has more toyota thieves than most places for some reason. Its sad, growing up in a small town most of us left our windows down in the summer....not these days.
Its hard to find a good balance of being smart and paranoid. to some degree i think that if a thief is determined to steal your crap, nothing short of a bullet is going to stop him, but on the other hand i don't want to make it easy for him either. I keep my stuff locked up, and pretty much the only time i drive my truck is when i'm going camping... if i DD'd it i'd have to invest in a security system/kill switch/body guard

No one should post their pictures of their kill switch. Thieves often times monitor these forums. I'm very suspicious that is how the guys who jacked my truck found me. I have removed any mentioning of my detailed location among other measures to help with this. I recommend you do the same.

Unfortunately SqWADoosh will be paying the insurance deductible, front end repair or an alighnment and the thieves are either back on the street or getting free room and board with several ammenities.
Another thing to check in your local area is the sex offenders list. Its on the Missouri Highway Patrol website for my state not sure about other states. You will probably be surprise at how close one lives to you and there again the criminals have more rights. It says you cant harrass them. Chaps my rear end how we coddle these criminals.
If anybody has a good kill switch system, I would like to have it PMd to me. Elelctric is a weak point of mine and would like to have a system in place.

I have not really had the chance to work on it lately. I have been busy with a lot of other vehicles the last few weeks.
Lately I have been working on a 99 4runner that is a neighbor of chris's. It had a miss on cyl #6. He took it to get looked at and they swapped plug wires, coils, and plugs, and still had a miss. I tore it all down and ohmed out the injectors to find the #6 one was dead. and then the #2 injector has a broken nozzle.
Its all back together now and running great!
Here are a few pics.
Before

Found a nest under the lower plenum and thought that their might be a chewed wire.

There's the culprit #6 injector

And #2 Cyl for reference

This thing runs great and just purrs with 200,000 miles.

My 3.4 days are coming. I am putting off our 3rd gen for as long as possible and it is starting to want some attention. I have helped a friend work on one before and they are not to bad at all. Just have to take the time to learn them.

Go rid of the YouTube video I found. Watched it again and had some profanity in it. (Swear words) that I don't feel are appropriate for the forum. Just in case anyone's kiddos are looking on here.
Sorry guys

Sitting here this Morning, having some coffee and finally getting the chance to read through this magazine I got this week.

Typically, I do not like looking through this particular rendition of the 4wheel parts stuff or any off road magazine for that matter. Since they are usually filled with nothing but jeep pictures, jeep builds, jeep parts, jeep accessories, etc.....
But much to my surprise, it was a slightly different story today. I opened up to an article on the rubicon trail and much to my surprise.......

It was not plastered with jeeps. Actually had two Toyotas on the front page of the article and the second page!

Then!!! Another article on the rubicon trail rival.

It's so nice to see that they have vehicles other than just jeeps!! Even better when they are Toyotas!!
