I love that color. Spray that whole beast down! Mine needs new paint too so while your at it... hit mine. Haha! I envisioned right away something like this with that paint... But, I did just get woken up early after working a 17 hour shift last night. So I might be wayyy off.
I like that color scheme also. Black top for sure.
I need a good solid day to prep and lay more down.
I'm waiting to see how this paint is after a few days of curing.

I like the color scheme, I think it would look cool with black SR5 stripes on the hood. I wish mine was grey............or silver........... or white.............
............. i wish it was pretty much any color other than red, I'm just burned out on red, lol, I've had a lot of red vehicles over the years!

With all one color and a fresh paint job, it will make a big difference. I think you will like it. It is going to look good.
kornhuskerwizard... I updated my 85 thread on my shop insulation. I hope I have it where I can heat it. I am looking for a wood stove to heat it with. Wood just heats so much better and last longer. You have any suggestions for making it more useful for tempertures?

Well......The paint was a bust. After three days if drying out in the sun, it was still soft. Soft enough to take my fingernail and scrape it off.
In top of that, there were a few areas that it wrinkled and stayed almost wet and never cured.
I learned my lesson.
The last time I painted part of this truck was when I did the rear tub. When I did that I went with quality paint from D&R paint supply that ivy my shop. It's expensive, but color matched and top quality paint. Still holding up.
This time I thought I would do it on the cheap and I paid for it.
Needless to say I'm very frustrated.
Stripped all the paint off of the fender tonight. Have to do some finish sanding on it, then lay down some primer.
Here are a few pics of the mess.

I will now be going with the paint that I can get from the supply house. Going to cost more, and will have to mix it but it's worth it now. Especially after this.

Man that sucks, sorry to hear the paint didn't work out, but I bet in the long run you'll be happier with the results going with a higher quality paint. Look forward to seeing what you come up with color wise!

I'm going to stick with the original color. My friend, who works at the paint supply House, has the color matched for my factory gray.

I do not want this to be a show truck by any means, but I do want the paint to hold up and hold rust back.
Thanks for checking in and the words Of encouragement.

Did u use hardener with the paint? I've had great results with tractor paint on my dad's race car but I always use the same brand hardener and reducer. It's always dry enough within 24 hrs to tape off flames. Feel bad for ya. It's got to be frustrating.

Before I dove into the gallon or quart size, with the process of adding hardner, I tested the waters with the puff can version.

Finally getting somewhere.
I fully stripped the panel, two coats of primer with wet sand in between and after.
I only had a little left of the OEM paint that I got from the supply house. But it was enough to throw a light coat on the fender, and cover the primer until I can get more.

Temporarily hanging to dry

Clearly needs more paint, but I have to get some made in the next few days.
Here's a pic of what it is and the info. In case anyone is interested.
The OEM code is 138 Dark gray poly

Take the wrong trail at tuttle and you're gonna get some custom racing stripes on that shiny new paint! Branches and bushes will getcha. I know.
Hence my durabak plans. But I wish shiny was logical for me because that looks good!

I can feel your frustrations. A guy that I know has painted for 50 years and had to redo a paint job because it would not set up. There is actually current thread on here with a guy having issues as well. I keep wondering when my day is coming to have to redo a paint job.

Haha. I hear you. I'm not afraid I get some rash in the trail. I'm more worried about getting some good paint on it to keep the rust at bay.
