Not the East Face- too technical for me- but I aspire to do the Mountaineer's Route on snow in early summer.

Ruby Tuesday awaits as cousin calls tow truck driver who later explained he had to reset Prius system that shut down because it was parked at an incline with parking brake left off :O For reals, guys? Heard of this ever happening?

I've got this sitting in my garage now, waiting on a transplant:

I'm getting the 2UZ swap race truck delivered to my house this afternoon and should start the rewire process this weekend. I'm really excited for this project, and can't wait to show off some pics of it here.

On another note of my truck, I should have some progress made on converting the rear end setup to some Chevy 63's and a RUF setup. Keeping it mild and budget oriented, as I'm back in school full time now (Electrical Engineering) and I just don't have the $ to really do anything trick at the moment.

I can see how that could be..

I happen to enjoy it! Doesn't hurt that I'm being paid to do it, but I'd gladly help anyone with their wiring projects. As a Electrical Engineer student it's probably a good thing that I enjoy this type of work.

I wish there were more people around that I could do swaps for. I really enjoy doing them.

There has been some interest here about my OME lift.. I thought I would inform those that follow this thread that I've got it for sale for one heck of a deal. Check it out here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f11/...er-259347-new/

That would indicate that something is changing no?! We'll stay tuned for quite the story.. I've got some BIG updates coming for my 1st Gen!!!

BTW: I'll have to get some completed pics of the 2UZ swap. Turned out SUPER clean and the team owner of the truck was super happy with how it turned out. No longer is the truck going into limp mode. I installed one of RADesign's Baja shifters for manual control of the A340 slushbox which made this a blast to drive. Very good product..

Dude, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY can't you live next door to me!!! I am DYING to do a project(kinda wanna leave mine stock, ya know? It performs just fine for my needs...).... BUT AN 85 I CAN FIND ON CL??? hehehehe. Might to the other way, swap this motor into a heartless 85...Then do the motor swap into THIS ONE... But have to see how clean the one I pick up is/could be in short order, ya know? These are EXPENSIVE to restore, in certain parts! hehehe.

Found an 85 for 1400$ the other day... ALMOST running, no rust, couple dents... interior fine, all 4WD working.... 1400$~!!!!! AND ''But I'm willing to negotiate!".... Someone NABBED THAT, Buddy!

Found another one in white with the decals and everything.... 2500$, but needing quite a bit of work... Just too much. Body great, interior crap, motor not running right and with knock.... DON'T CARE about the motor, but it would HELP to sell if to cover a new to me 3RZ or something, ya know? STILL can't decide on the 3RZ, 1UZ or 7MGE/GTE..... Seen TWOOOOOOOO 1UZ's with under 100K miles at the yards, recently.... COMPLETE cars for whatever they charge, all the wiring, etc. But INSTANTLY they're nabbed by some Egyptian guy, so I've heard. GRRRRRR~! The other I saw day before yesterday? An 88 Supra Turbo with 128K miles.... The guy was hoisting out the motor right then. IT DROPPED THERE MINUTES before that..... SOMETHING tells me the yard owners have a 'DEAL' with some of these guys... Cuz 99% of the Toyota Trucks come IN WITHOUT GEARS.... C'monnnnnnn, gonna tell me that's coincidence? Some guy who works there has dibs or something, man... I'm telling you.

Gonna keep my eyes open, buddy.... YOU HAVE motivated me!

NICE WORK ON THE SWAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can still be neighbors!! You just need to move to NM!! I probably would keep your options open to other years just for the sake of finding a steal. If it's not a SA truck it's not a whole lot more work to make it one than it is to make a stock solid axle truck just as good as the SAS'd IFS truck. The bolt on stuff just doesn't cut it if you really want to be able to tackle some rough terrain. Just something to keep in mind..

I'd really stay away from the I6's and stick with the tried and true RZ/VZ/UZ motors. The parts and fabrication is much less with these options with the UZ closer to the "more work" side of the scale.

But I got the main shipment of goods in for my suspension rennovation/fix (more on that to come), but this will give you an idea of what's coming..

Hey Mista, .... you wants to be high when you steering? hehehe.

Thanks for the info on the swaps.... (saving the 'you're an idiot, look it up' is helpful to me, too! hahaha)..........

Here's the deal...............

I'm coming up on a 50% off weekend at PYPart.... There are currently THREE 1UZ's, 2 in LS400's and 1 in a VERY clean SC400.... SC is 92, LS are 93 and 94.... And they've probably added one by now, lol. NONE OF THEM had been touched, aside from one having had the AFM removed(VAFM, VAF, SUPER-MAFVAFM...whatever! lol).....

NOW, ...... the reason this is important? Well, it's not, hahaha.. BUT, the sale would mean I could get a complete motor, every sensor on it, and harness, and ECU's..... all for around 500$. .... I KNOW! lol. PROBLEM, therein, is 'GETTING IT OUT'! ONLY ONE is on the end of the row... But if you slip them a lil cash, they'll pull it to the outside row and send the 'helpers' your way. The biggest problem in this? NO CLUE which bolt to hit first, let alone how to get all the wiring out in one piece, etc., ya know? LET ALONE how to pull it without damaging things...... I would imagine pulling the hood and radiator and then pulling the whole thing out with the trans would be easiest... right? Then remove the trans from it?

This is all just 'maybe' type stuff... So if you don't have time, don't sweat it ........

Another problem..... I'm wondering if it matters if I grab an auto or manual. I KNOW the ECM issues could be a problem.... So maybe I'm better off just waiting for a wrecked SC400 5spd in the local/near by CL?

I was thinking of at least bringing a 12V source to power it up and see if I could get a look at the mileage... ONE of them even has the key in it(they're supposed to remove that, cuz people could start them and cause DEATH! lol.

I bet I with a 3RZ, I would have better power, mileage and more ease of 'swap application'... right? Problem is... I NEVER see them in the yards. They have a 'newer model' yard that they put the 98 and up stuff in.... Had a GUTTED 97 4Runner in there the other day in the main yard.. But I think either someone buys all the taco's, etc., before they make it in... or they're in that other yard??????

Copy and paste from LKQ Site..........

Engine Package (G-1) $699.00 $65.00 $209.70
Engine Package (G-2) $899.00 $85.00 $269.70

I'm guessing it would be the latter.... As later in the page it shows this......

Engine, Complete $209.99 $45.00 $63.00
Engine, Complete 454 $399.99 $50.00 $120.00
Engine, Complete Dsl $299.99 $50.00 $90.00
Engine, Complete Fi $224.99 $50.00 $67.50
Engine, Complete Tc $249.99 $50.00 $75.00
Engine, Long Block $139.99 $35.00 $42.00
Engine, Short Block $99.98 $25.00 $29.99

doesn't specify 8cyl or anything like that..........

Just to start with... what do you think of my idea? BE HONEST! lol... if it's something you think I would probably not get out in a day..... LEMME KNOW, I'll pass. I could get it almost out, then show up the next day and someone has stripped a bunch of stuff off, etc., ya know? BUT, ...... If I can find a good 1UZ for cheap... why not???

BTW, ........... by "VZ", you mean the 5VZE? You must... Yet, since I'm 22REEEEKed, lol... Does that swap become LOTS more work than if you had a 3.0 already?

SORRY to bombard you... I have no problem dropping an idea if it's not practical.

PS> I know that there's the "you REALLY don't know what shape it's in" factors, too... NO guarantee... BUT, they do have 'return warranty', 30 days, if something isn't right...... I'd just have to get another engine, can't pick something else like a trans and tcase! lol.

If you are having a half off day, that would be the perfect time to nab a motor!

NOW, ...... the reason this is important? Well, it's not, hahaha.. BUT, the sale would mean I could get a complete motor, every sensor on it, and harness, and ECU's..... all for around 500$. .... The only way you want to buy your swap is complete like this. No doubt it could be done otherwise but it's going to end up costing WAY more and be 3x the headache. But everything from one source. And even better is if you can pull it all yourself so YOU know you've got everything.

The cool thing that Toyota does, is have a seperate engine harness from the main chassis harness. You'll see where all the engine related wiring bundles together and enters the firewall. Toyota typically uses a diamond shape plug for the firewall (see my swap, I have a pic of it) Disconnect that from the ECU and pull it through the firewall. That'll allow you to leave the engine wiring harness on the motor and lift it out of the engine bay. You'll have to just use your general wrenching skills to get everything else out. Rule of thumb for pulling stuff for your swap: Know you need it, pull it. Think you'll need it, pull it. Not sure if you'll need it, pull it.

All UZ's are autos in the US anyway I thought. I think they all are elsewhere too.. So that kinda answers that, but in all honesty if you want to put a manual behind the UZ you can still use the Auto ECU. In the 2UZ race truck I just did, we took control of the transmission away from the stock ECU with RADesign's shifter box giving us full manual control of the auto. VERY AWESOME I must add. In all honesty after driving that thing, a STOCK UZ motor and auto is WAY more power than you need in a little Yota chassis for anything short of full on racing. Don't bother yourself with the Manual swap if you're doing a UZ swap.

I was thinking of at least bringing a 12V source to power it up and see if I could get a look at the mileage... ONE of them even has the key in it(they're supposed to remove that, cuz people could start them and cause DEATH! lol.

Not a bad idea.. But you dont necessarily need to lug around a car battery just to power up the cluster. If you have a 9.6V-18v cordless drill you can use that to power it up just to check the mileage. The yard should know the mileage though..

The 3RZ in your Runner would be the ideal swap and you wouldn't have to cut/hack a single thing. It would virtually bolt right in. In all honesty, I could do a 3RZ swap in a weekend, assuming the motor was physically installed. In fact I'll make you a deal. If you do a 3RZ swap and get everything installed. Fly me out, kick me a few bucks and I'll do your swap. Try like hell to find a Dual-Coil or Quad coil motor though. The distributor ones are a bit more of a PITA to wire.

I have no idea what any of the above is.. Sorry.

Yes, I'd never put a 3VZ in anything other than a recycle bin.

And yes.. I was a perfect example of getting the shaft by the junkyard. My 3RZ was HAMMERED (remember the pics?). You'll have to use your best judgement to gauge whether or not the motor is worth the trouble.. I know a thing or two about motors, and I still got it wrong so you never really know until you get it home and open it up.

Hey man, thanks alot!!!! "ask the experts... Or at least ask those who know more than yourself!", my pop's always said! hahaha.

Far as the part you didn't get... sorry man, that's just the price list from Pick-Your-Part.... which is owned by LKQ Corporation... They own 1000'S of yards all over the country, from what I can tell. I think they're buying or have bought Ecology too. (maybe they own em already?)

Anyway, my point in posting that was an idea of what an "Engine package", G1 or G2 would coast me on 50% off day... Those, above, are the normal prices... So I guess, with core/warranty, .... 600$ max? Not sure what package means.... "with trans?" I doubt it..

But there is another question I have to ask, now that I saw what you posted, ... SORRY, I'll stop soon! hahaha...

* You're talking "Go Auto" if you do 1UZ.... Which I WOULD BE FINE with.. But in my 87, what trans would I use? A340H or whatever it is in the V6 4Runners?

Either way, this is something that could happen QUICK, or way down the road... I just can't ever tell with my life lately, hahaha.. BUT, if I find a deal and have a day... WHY NOT get ready with the motor I choose, right?

Seems like, since the 1UZ is such a PITA comparatively, lol.... Unless I'm doing it in a Project/Second truck..... It's not very practical. BUT, if I did all my research, found a 3RZ with a 4 coil pack(what years are those btw???).... I could do it in, oh..... a month? I would be JUST FINE with that, honestly. And sure, if I was unable to realistically get it done in a timely manner... I'd GLADLY fly you out to swapparoo! lol. HEY, we could do Disneyland or something, right? Haven't been there in 10 years! lol. JK, ....whatever, you know what I mean. I'm sure you'd not be wanting to stick around in L.A. for too long, even if you did come out, lol.

THANKS, SO MUCH, Bud..... I really appreciate the input... And most of all... I REALLY NEED THE REALITY CHECK factor laid out in my mind, well! Ya know? I need to know exactly what I'm getting into, for sure!

My appologies for the lack of updates lately. I've really got a lot to show.. I've got a Marlin rebuilt W56, New double cardan rear driveshaft to eliminate vibration, Sky Crossover Steering, RUF/63 w/ 12" Bilstein's, and a custom idle up switch.

I've just been so busy with climbing and school the last few months I haven't even been on the forum much. I promise I'll have some updates soon.

Well, there's the truck. Not much probably looks different to you all who have followed along as I've slowly build this thing into a daily driver that can get up and over whatever may be in my way when I want to go play..

Between school and my newest big-boy toy I just haven't put a whole lot of work into the truck. It just drives like a dream on and off-road that I really don't need a whole lot more done. I have a few things that'll finish up what little loose ends are left. A Marlin Crawler rear bumper, New Sky-Mfg pitman arm, Brake upgrade (w/ rear proportioning valve), Optima battery w/ new tray, and a few other little odds and ends that aren't really interesting.

The swap now has about 30K miles on it with as my primary DD. It's been reliable as you'd expect a Toyota to be, and has never let me down.. Just can't say enough good about it, which makes it hard to mess with you know.

So in the long hiatus that I've been away from the forums, the truck got the Chevy rear springs installed (what a fiasco), the RUF setup done, and all the Sky-Mfg parts pictured above on. Also had some driveshafts done by Tom Woods.

The Big-Boy-Toy that I spend a lot of time on:
