A clunking could be many things, best thing is to get under the truck and check if anything is loose, I haven't done hardcore offroading with mine before the tear down but my friend's samurai with toyota drivetrain just naturally clunks like crazy.

Check the ujoints. When mine went bad I could shake it with my hands. Also might be worth the piece of mind to pull the birfs out to have a look and maybe pack some more grease in there before you go wheel.

Is there not supposed to be any play at all on the driveshaft when moving up\down or side to side. I felt some play but didn't know if it was normal or not.

I don't believe there is supposed to be any play in the ujoints it's self. Mine was very obvious that what was moving.

There isn't supposed to be play, but if the clunks came from a u-joint I don't see why it would only do it when turning left or right. Check the locks and birfs, or bring spares and tools!

Agreed. Ujoints would make noise when starting stopping or accelerating. In my experience.

Yea i went and drove it again in 4wd and noticed it when just starting to move, I guess yesterday I really only noticed it more when turning since I was turning thru ruts and going up and down hill.
I did pull the front shaft off and saw the center ball on the cv shaft side was loose and confirmed that's where I'm having this nasty popping sound coming from. I looked for parts to rebuild but it's showing 2 different sizes for that center part and don't know which one to get? Know how to figure it out

If you aren't going with cross over steering then I would recommend the Sky Manufacturing Heavy Duty Tie Rod.

I have one on mine - it's a direct fit.

I was reading thru your build and that thing is awesome, I wish I had the time and patience to go thru mine like that. Looks really good. Did those OME 2" springs lift your truck to much or are they a true 2" spring. I'm thinking of getting some for mine that's probably the highest I want to go with 35s.

They seem to be a little tall, maybe like 3-3.5" instead of 2" but it doesn't have the full weight of the body on it yet and I'm sure it still needs to settle some. I also did 5.5" shackles which are 2" over stock length so that's about 1" of added height. Should be a total lift height of about 3" but I think it may be closer to 4.5" at the moment. It's hard to tell because nobody REALLY knows the actual ride height of these trucks. If the height is a little to high then I may go with shorter shackles. Compared to the old springs on it, which were Rough Country, I can definitely tell that they are a lot softer springs so the ride should be a lot better. But the OME springs could definitely fit 35's.

Cool man thanks alot. I'm thinking I'm just going to go all out and 4 link the rear and do my RUF hopefully in the next 2 weeks and go ahead and put get my roll cage built. Your build is awesome, I just went thru ur build page by page and it looks good. I need to learn how to weld. I have never attempted to weld but I seem to learn things easy and fast. We will see how it goes

Not much of an update but I got a new house with a 2 car garage so now I can start on my suspension. 57s on the rear and RUF hopefully this weekend.

Congrats on the new house, I bet you'll get some use out of that garage! Can't wait to see the suspension upgrades, and then some wheeling pics!
