I am still trying to figure the A/C out on mine. It can be done but its going to be a pain. My boost gauge is tapped from the banjo fitting on the back of the intake manifold. It had a line from the ALDA originally. If you have any questions along the way give me a holler!

Nice job on the build.

I just wanted to recommend you drain that plain-green antifreeze and switch to Zerex G-05, which is the Mercedes recommended coolant for the OM617. Gotta get some corrosion inhibitors in there or you risk corrosion and/or cavitation damage sooner or later.

That looks really cool . I also have a diesel engine which needs some repairing work. Its piston and compression making noise and smelling really bad. So I want help from an diesel mechanic who can make it work.

Just a little update. Sorry I haven't been on in a while. Work and the Farm have kept me really busy. I broke 2500 miles on the truck last week. Its been fantastic and as the engine has broken in it has increased in power quite a lot. Really the only issue I have had is I broke my speedometer cable so I had to order the extension from Marlin. Mileage has been in the high 20's around town. Last tank was 27 in town. As far as the cooling system it has worked fantastic. The warmest it ever gets is right at 200 on the hills on the highway in 100+ temps.

Flainn- it has ELC coolant in it now. The green was only temporary until I was sure the system was good to go. I have a block that had the green run through it for quite a bit of time and its a mess.

Hybridgix- I have a few but they aren't good. When life slows a bit I'll grab some in the truck. Name: IMG_20111222_192209.jpg

callivari- What kind of engine is it? Are you considering a swap?

BMcEL- Thank you! I personally couldn't be anymore pleased with how it all worked out. I got pretty burnt out with it all there for a while but it was so worth it.

Well, that seems a wonderful design of your diesel engine., I wonder how much time you have to put in repairing all these machines, I once tried to learn diesel mechanic work but it all seems quite difficult for someone who don’t have relation with machines. You are born to handle these engines. Great up, Thanks for sharing.

It's been running fantastic. I've put almost 4k on it now. I drive it all of the time everywhere. I see yours is doing well too!

I want to say M22x1.5. I just took the adapters out and welded AN fittings to those. That opens up all sorts of options.

Joe is right that is what mine were I believe. I'll have to dig out the receipt. I just had my cooler lines made at a local hydraulic shop. I haven't had any trouble with them.

hey i recently decided to do the om617 i already bought a donor 93 300d merc, i started to pull the motor out disconnecting vacuum lines, and wondered about your killswitch, can you take a picture of where your 22re valve connects to? and one more question, did you take out your fuel pump? or just left it, does it get in the waY? did you just connect the fuel lines to the motor without touching the lines?

Do you by chance mean an 83? 93 wouldn't have an om617. I'll grab some pictures in a few days. Work is reeally crazy right now. The lines are factory and I removed the electric fuel pump and put a piece of hose in its place. If you go back through this thread you will find most of the info you need. If not feel free to ask.

Just read all 16 pages, glad to see the swap finished, and that it was worthwhile! I'm contemplatin a OM603 swap, and was wondering about the adapter... now I'm not so worried about it... Lookin forward to more reports on the truck.
Btw have you done any offroading with it yet?

It really has been awesome. I am driving it back and forth to school (45 miles each way) and it hasn't missed a lick. The one thing I would caution you about is be sure that you have the input shaft centered in the adapter. If you have a dial indicator its no big deal. Its really not hard, its just really important. As much as I hate to admit it my truck is mostly a pavement princess, but it sees quite a bit of time in the field on the farm. I had a trailer with about 2000 lbs of seed on it at one point during planting season this year. It idled it around the field no problem so I'd imagine it would be plenty torquey for off road use. Have you measured the 603 yet? With it being a 6 cyl it might be a pretty tight fit. The 617 is pretty packed as it is.Just a thought. If you go through with it keep us posted I'd be really interested in it. Good luck with it!

Nice, makes me want to do a diesel swap even more!
I'm pretty sure we've got a dial indicator somewhere around here lol...
rofl, Sounds like it's still doing what it's meant to do (it is a truck after all lol)
Sadly not yet, seems like everything keeps getting in my way
I've been warned of that, I'm not above some major modifications though lol...

Just so you know, a 603/606 without the fan attatched is as long as the OM617 with the mechanical fan. Also, the oilpan is going to be even more of a B to get around as it is larger and sits forward more than the OM617.
