PowerstrokeJoe's om617 Turbo Diesel swap/build in 1990 P/up

Umm I will have to go measure in the morning. It had a 2 piece driveshaft in it before the diesel swap, but I am now running a single. My whole driveline has been relocated 4 1/2 inches rearward.

I finally got a chance to get everything buttoned up on the truck today and it seems much better even with the timing a little off. I drove it about 100 miles. It will run 65-70 fairly comfortably, you just have to shift at different points than the gasser to keep it in the boost. I also got around to taking some better detailed pictures. If there are anymore pictures anyone wants please let me know.

I still have a lot of cleaning up to do under the hood but its drivable for now.
I also made a video. The video quality is pretty low as my camera sucks but I am going to get a dedicated video camera and make a better one. There is also a longer drive video that I couldn't upload with this one because it was too long for youtube so here is is.

Hey I'm going to run out and dig out those driveshafts and measure that right now. I'll post the measurements for you.
Ok the front drive shaft flange to flange measures 32 inches. The rear measures 36.5 inches for a total length of 68.5 inches. If you end up needing a new drive shaft I would have a 1 piece made. By the time you rebuild the 2 piece it costs almost as much as the single piece. I had Tom Woods build mine and I couldn't be more happy with it.

22re- I actually didn't mean to do that, and really was surprised it even did it. Thanks for your kind words!
Gbrunner- Yep actually the Mercedes pump works fantastic. I have a rebuild write up in this thread. I would recommend doing that while you have it out as its cheap insurance. Also you are probably going to have to run power steering fluid in it as that's the only thing that wont leak out of mine. The alternator is in the stock Mercedes location. I clearanced the Merc lower bracket to fit it and used the upper bracket off the Toyota.

2003mikemThe oilcooler is mounted directly below the radiator between the tow hooks. If you look at it in the head on shot you can just see it. Honestly its the only place I had room for it. It gets good airflow there too. I've had the truck in the field a lot for hay and crop season thus far and haven't even come near to hitting it on anything, but if one planned to offroad it hard core it would be toast I have a feeling.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. If It were me and I would mount it under the cab with the fan pulling air down through it. Just a thought because the engine compartment is really tight and if you ever plan on intercooling it you may want that space.

Just thought I'd post an update. I am waiting for my new wheels to come in so I haven't driven my truck in a few days, but I took it to town last night and filled it. I averaged 26 this tank. Overall I am really happy how it all turned out. It has plenty of power on the highway and its staying cool now.

been reading through all this and starting on my swap soon, all the pictures you took help to plan out where all my gear is going. Im sure ill run into issues keeping the a/c in the runner. Where abouts did you tap in for a boost gauge?
