Anytime Ian! I've been toying around with performing this swap on my 1995 4Runner that I use as a third vehicle/plow truck/work horse or as I like to call it my Farrari since I love driving it soo much that I when I'm not commuting to or from work I'm driving it instead of any other vehicle that I owne and it's my first choice for mode of transportation on the weekends. LOVE IT!!! Unfortunately the 3.0 liter runs flawlessly but after 278K miles it has developed an oil leak from between the head and the block but only leaks externaly. I have my donor in the driveway ready to get started and I've been collecting information and parts for make the swap as easy as possible with the exception of one major road block... I need to source a ECM for a MT 4x4... My donor is an auto. With that being said, let me ask you, where did you get your ECM???????????

the donor was a manny-tranny, but brian wanted to do a auto-to-manual swap, so he pulled the trans and i bought the rest from him. he was even nice enough to leave me the ecm.

 

I blame it on the celica. Your truck got lots more attention before the convertible came into the picture.

I understand other priorities come first. Good luck getting it all done.

Get your self some gauges and gas if you haven't already. Its a few more bucks, but well worth it if you are going to be fabbing a rear tray.

 

yep, gas is a must for that. cleanup was killing us when we made the bridges (with flux core). i already have a breaker box that ties into the stove power, so i have 30 full amps of powah.

taking the bed off will also help a lot with fabbing the exhaust setup. i forget if i said it earlier, but i want to get the biggest, quietest muffler i can find.

time to start looking through this thread again

weekend update: timing belt change

i had to get the crank bolt out, so i pulled out my 12v compressor, heat gun, and torch. the bolt popped right out; easier than the starter trick



i forgot that i had this laying around, and it worked like a charm



heat gun didn't work, but propane torch for ~2 mins did



almost done, then:



i pinched my finger in the cam pulley and sensor. that wouldn't have been that bad, but it was the pulley with the sensor "nub", so i gots me two stiches last night.

all okay, but i won't get to work on the truck at all this week anyway because of the weather. after i get the timing belt stuff done, all that's left:

-electrical
-exhaust
-interior
-driveshafts

 

I think any major mod requires stitches, I got 7 doing the SAS, I wonder how many stitches are required for a 4-link rear and fuel tank relocation?

 

4-link rear, i think is close to 1 or 2 minimum. fuel tank relocation is none, because nothing is spring-loaded.

i almost busted my face/hand/other doing my bj-spacer install. i hadn't yet learned to loosen the torsion bars, and the "spreader" jack slipped out. i felt the uca brush past my ear. scary af.

okay, so today and this weekend are supposed to be nice. (with the proper tools) i'll finish up the timing belt today, and work on ??? this weekend.

wrench-day saturday, anyone?

 

I would be down for some wrenching, but I have plans to go camping. If they fall threw, I'll join the fun.
