I don't really know that way either Mikey, I was just going to use the directions that Lance posted up. You're right it does look like a big detour around the mountains.

How would we go your way through Arrowhead?

Ok, I am trying to find a ride up to Big Bear for my brother from San Diego. If you have an open seat and are leaving Friday after 2:00 or real early Saturday morning drop me a PM. He'll be my co-pilot for the runs but also needs a ride back Saturday night or Sunday. I'll hook you up with some gas money to offset the fuel for the weekend.
Thanks Matt

I was just reading the TTORA thread regarding the best approach and it seems if you're towing then the 38 is the way to go. Other than that the 18 would be the fastest.

Well,
I finally made it!! I had an interesting day with the AZ guys on monday and we didn't get home from being on the trail until 4am. Then one of the rigs that went out with us was being tested for its owner that lives in SD. Lucky for both the fabricator and the owner I'm such a nice guy because I brought it with me and it is in its garage safe and sound for the first time in a year. His name is BlackSheep and for those that haven't seen his posts its quite the monster. Lets just say it will almost felx my body height (do some research). Keep an eye on the teasers thread as I will be posting pictures from the run the other day tomorrow.

ACReves,
I will probably have room, but I won't know until thursday night if I'm coming back to SD or not. If I get a definite answer by then I'll let you know but I wouldn't count on me being able to bring him back. Also we are leaving by 2pm on friday so I don't know how that is going to work either. I know most of the SD group is leaving by 2pm and all caravanning up together so you might want to see if he can't leave any earlier.

Seth,
Bring you meter!

Thanks! He can get off earlier. Even if he gets a ride up with you and a ride back with someone else. Let me know if you can take him either way.

I beleive that I posted that info on TTORA. Again, I am a local (I work in San Bernardino and live in Redlands) and the travel time between the two is minimal. If you are driving a stock vehicle that has no trouble with a grade, 18 is a steep and winding road that may save you 10 minutes or so with the trip. With the 330 closure most of the traffic seems to take the 18, so the 10 minutes might be negated by traffic. If you are running bigger tires etc or towing, the 38 is the better route. The only problem with the 38 is there isn't much in the way of services (gas etc) between Mentone (the bottom of the hill) and Big Bear City (the east end of the lake). I'd guess you will travel between 50 and 60 miles on the 38 without service. Angeles Oaks has a small restraunt but no gas.
I am going to take the 38 up early Saturday morning (6:30). My Runner doesn't like the 18.

Hey people, Ryan (Tanto) asked me to set up the San Diego Yotatech Meet and Greet for tonight. If anyone is interested I'm thinking Old Town Mexican Cafe in Old Town San Diego. Does 7pm sound good? Let me know if youre interested. I don't think well need to make reservations, but Ill call if I get a good response from you guys.

That is the perfect place to show him a good dinner here in SD.

Good thinking!

Jody and I will be there at 7pm. Thanks for doing this Josh.

Gonna be tied up tonight. Sorry I won't be able to make it.

There seems to be a fair amount of people still wondering we're we will be camping. Correct me if I'm wrong but the meeting place for the TTORA will also be the campground. It's just north of Holcomb Valley Campground in the open space. Cross-reference Google Earth and a USGS topo and you'll see it. If this is BS then throw me in with the "still wondering" pile.

Freejake3,
Sorry, if I am causing any confusion. I was just wondering if the yotatech group was going to try and set up a section where most of the yotatech group will be. I know there is the TTORA camp but was just wondering more specific on where the yotatech group was going to be.

We will be sharing the camp site with everyone (TTORA). This way we stay close to everyone else and can mingle together. There is no need to keep the groups separated as we're one big happy family. An offroader is an offroader with no ties to the brand you drive. This is all about the "fun" factor so we should welcome everyone and pitch a tent close to everyone else.

One warning though... there are those that snore so pick your sites wisely

The Yotatech morning gathering point for the filming will be at 8am in front of the Discovery Center located at the entrance of the trail head. I have chosen this location so we are far enough away from the ttora group so there is no confusion on the groups. We;'re expecting well over 80 vehicles so it'll be very crazy so the separate meeting points will help all of us.

Side note, since we'll be leaving earlier, make sure to camp close to the exit points so we can get out and not be stuck. First ones arriving for the Yotatech guys should try to camp as close to the exit so we can leave easily.

Thanks!
