hahaha Fairy, that one would have to be a wrap. I know a guy but he is spendy. not sure he could blow up the image that much not to mention the money to clear coat it so it does not get thrashed from brush. this would be like $2000 I believe. Same guy did a fancy sticker for my dads old toy hauler for me for his xmas a few years ago.

Hey guys,

I see that the PreRun is going to be on the 29th. Has a date been set for the actual Run? I did not see anything in the message thread.

Looks like it will be a lot of fun, I am looking forward to it already. Gives me motivation to weld the sliders on and square away my tire carrier.

Thanks,

Mike

the final date has not been set yet. I want to see how the snow is there first. We do know for sure that the event will take place after the 5th of June.

I know, I know, I have been slacking. Deer season came and I was off chasing bambi in September and October. Then I had a late season muzzleloader hunt in November. Then duck season came. Now is the time of year I get the garage projects done.

I did get to put 100's of miles on the Runner during deer season, in snow and mud some of the time. I even got to use that brand new winch for the first time, so some good came of it. Oh, and a freezer full of venison to boot!

I did get a distibution block and Odyssey battery installed over the weekend, so, I made the sacrifice and skipped the last weekend of duck season to work on the Runner.

As for all done, will it ever be "all done"? Always a work in progress.

I think you are best off with just going with some vinyl's. I think you can get them for cheaper than a grand. You probably don't need a full vehichle wrap and if it's cammo you probably don't have to worry about it stetching as much and deforming the text or image. You could probably do it yourself.

I was up in Twain Harte and it just got about 1.5 ft of fresh snow. There was about 4-5 inches on the road up from the highway. I am sure higher up there is quite a bit more fresh snow so I think there is probably going to be snow for a little while longer up there.

Outlaw, I know how deer season goes, we have been debating our hunting trip for the coming season. With as bad as it has been in the last few years i am almost of a mind to just get points for an X zone (what is it 1/2000 chance of draw) and maybe get a D tag. my cousin knows mariposa county real wel and can get me into some good spots for decent bucks. never been big on ducks. I get to restless in a blind. have the same issue fishing in a boat at eagle lake. I like the taste of eagle lake trout enough to get me on the boat though.
looks like you had fun chris. I also do not think we are done with snow yet this year so we may have a late spring. for the lakes and streams sake I kinda hope so.

I grew up in Eureka, so, I always hunt B-zone, mostly off Highway 36 in the Ruth Lake area. We do day hikes into the Middle Eel wilderness area. Our group has 6 to 8 hunters on average, and we usually get 8 to 10 deer each year. This year was better than most, 7 hunters, 12 bucks. Mostly small bucks, but my brother popped a 22" 4x4 in rifle season and we both picked up 18" 4 pointers in the M11 late season hunt. All on public land, you just have to use your feet and get off the beaten track.

I missed three nice bucks during muzzleloader season, those open sights and slow bullets are a bear to get on target in the field. With the M11 draw, I am out of points for deer, so, will just be hunting regular rifle season this year. I have never hunted the X-zones, but know a few guys who have done it. Mostly they come home empty handed, due to not knowing the area very well. If you have a local hook to private property or someone who knows the country, you can do very well.

My fam hunted 2 seasons ago in ruth lake area. I was sicker than hell and did not make it for that area. they all ended up empty. I have hunted B in the yollobollies quite a few times and had success once. We are not big fans of out the window hunters ourselves. the stalk is the only way where I grew up hunting. As for the xzones. we have fam out of susanville and my grandad grew up hunting up there. We have a lot of ties to the high desert. dad got drawn for antelope last year and we had a blast. even seen 2 monster bucks, one being 33 plus 4x5 and his "little" buddy was a 3x4 about 22 wide.
I spent a little over $1000 three years ago to hunt Idaho. money wasted on a fork but it was a good eatin buck.
speeking of HWY36, that little burger joint up near mad river is pretty good stuff. My dad had a job up in fortuna and I was hauling all of his equipment up there for him. what a drive!!!

Hey you know that area well, where does the divide road come out on 36? one of the trips I would like to organize is a long expedition style trip starting out of elk creek, west and then north along the divide road. figure it would be fun for a bunch of guys to do. i have been across and down reeds creek but never through to 36

I'm not sure what the divide road is. Enlighten me further and maybe I can offer an opinion. I've been all the way down Forst Service 1, Jones Ridge, Swim Ridge, which is all north of the wilderness area. Also, we go out Long Ridge down into Covelo area all the time.

That burger bar is soooo good. After a long day of hiking, and hopefully packing out a buck, it is a great place to stop to get a burger, onion rings, and a soda. They do a good breakfast also.

Mike

I think the covalo road may be part of it, I forgot to ask my dad while he was here. I believe he has been as far as covelo but never further. the divide being the the change between rivers running west and rivers running east ( i think ). ok so I have scoped this out and from what i can tell the road through starts at forest Hwy 7 goes to covelo from elk creek and then north. google calls it van duzen rd when you turn at covelo but like all of these roads I am sure there are other names. IDK it almost seems to easy, I know if you take the wrong road your screwed in a lot of those areas.

Oh, I know that one well. I was racking my brain for a road that connects north south to the east of the Yola Bolly Wilderness Area. To the west of that, sure, the Covelo to Zenia Road. It is mostly paved, well, maybe half. You used to be able to drive all the way up Long Ridge on a Forest Service road, but for some reason the private landowners on the south end of Long Ridge were able to put locked gates across the road. Now, you have to take the county road north from Covelo, through Zenia, then east on the Ruth-Zenia road, then you can either come north again on Van Duzen River Road (in the Hettenshaw Valley) to 36 by the ranger station (right by Mad River) or keep heading east over Mad River Ridge and then drop down to the town of Ruth, just south of Ruth Lake. From there north along the east side of Ruth lake and you will hit 36 at the bottom of South Fork Mountain.

If you come up Van Duzen River Road there is a short offroad trail that cuts off to the top of Mad River Ridge. It is called the Devil's Backbone. It is only 3 or 4 miles long and is mildly challenging going uphill. If you have a locker in the back, no problem at all. With open diff's, it is difficult. That puts you on top of Mad River Ridge, which you can then run down by Mad River rock to Highway 36.

Yeah I am thinking more of an expedition style trip.mildly challenging with lots of scenery.
Outlaw, I have access to most every locked gate from the paskenta rd north. Bob Crane of Crane mills is a good fam friend. My grandad wrenched for them for 16 years and Bob hunts with us almost every year. Good people but thinks were getting out of control so they put in gates on almost everything that was not a "forrest route M" I know there is another road that cuts clear across east of the VanDuzen rd. it may be N29 but unsure

If you are doing an expedition trip, definitely detour up to the Lassics Botanical area. Black and Red Lassic are cinder cones on the ridgeline above the Van Duzen River. Altitude is about 6k feet up there, you can drive the forest service roads right to the cones and hike up there for a great view. On a clear day you can see all the way to Shasta from there, and up to the Trinity Alps.

I need to get myself one of those keys....

Part of the agreement is that we do not give them out lol. 10-15 years ago it was not so bad but some people have really made it bad for him and his company so he just kinda up and decided to close it all off. technically you can still hunt in there but not drive in. We hunted rattlesnake ridge 2 years ago. lots of deer just no way to get at them. If I do the expo style trip it will more than likely be across the ponderosa on the north end. maybe through in part of the peligreen jeep trail into it. take full days to do it.
